Legal Education in Austria: Challenges and Tasks against the Background of Globalisation

In recent years, legal education in Austria and indeed the architecture of Austrian courses as a whole, has been subjected to massive reform pressure and in parts to considerable change. The grounds for this are multifaceted. In addition to the Bologna Process, which is intended to lead to pan-European uniform course structures, the needs of the market have also played a significant role. 1) Many occupational fields relevant to legal professions are facing entirely new demands as a result of European integration and the phenomenon of globalisation. Thus, demands for foreign languages and intercultural skills are increasingly accompanying the requirement for a knowledge of business and economics. A trend towards specialisation is also discernible.
