We have selected an valuable probiotic strain ; Lactobacillus sakei BK 19 which has wide antagonic spectrum against fish pathogens. Present study investigated cultural characterization of L. sakei BK 19 including pH tolerance, susceptibility of antibacterial agents and growth pattern with different environment such as nutritions, temperature and salinity. L. sakei BK19 showed significantly higher resistance at low pH(around pH4) environment and relative high antibiotic tolerance. In the study of optimal culture condition, maltose supply its carbon source for the fermentation of L. sakei BK19. Moreover, L. sakei BK19 showed good growth at the temperature range of 15 to 45℃ and the NaCl concentration of 0 to 7%. Hence, this particular probiotics strain may be benificial both in seawater and fresh water conditions.
정맥내 통증자가조절장치로 투여된 Fentanyl과 Ketorolac이 수술 후 오심 구토에 미치는 영향

This study was performed to assess the effect of fentanyl and ketorolac in intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IV-PCA) on postoperative nausea and vomiting. And we also evaluated the antiemetic effect of ondansetron. Ninety three patients who were undergoing elective operation of three departments (gynecology, GY; general surgery, GS; orthopedic surgery, OS) received enflurane anesthesia and IV-PCA. The IV-PCA device was filled with fentanyl 12-15 pg/kg, ketorolac 4-5 mg/kg and normal saline into total dose of 65 ml. After loading 5 ml of the above solution, the IV-PCA was started at a setting of 0.5 ml/h of basal infusion rate and 0.5 ml per demand, with 15 minutes lockout interval. Patients undergoing abdominal surgery were randomly allocated into ondansetron group and non-ondansetron group based on the addition of ondansetron 4 mg into the IV-PCA device. We assessed the incidence of nausea, vomiting by departments and ondansetron usage at operation day (OD), postoperative day 1 (POD1) and 2 (POD2). The incidence of nausea was 34%, 10.3% and 0% at OD in GY, GS and 0s respectively. There was no difference between ondansetron group and non-ondansetron group in the incidence of nausea and vomiting. The patients who received gynecological operation showed higher rate of postoperative nausea and vomiting at OD and PODI. Also, addition of ondansetron into IV-PCA with fentanyl and ketorolac did not reduce the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting in abdominal operation.

Background: Children and parents experience significant anxiety and distress during the preoperative period. This is important because preoperative anxiety in children is associated with adverse postoperative outcome. So we suggest behaviorally oriented preoperative anxiety intervention program based on the anesthesia and psychology with smartphone application, world-widely used. Methods: A total 120 patients (aged 1-10 years old) who were scheduled for elective surgery under general anesthesia was included in this randomized controlled trial. We randomized the patients into three groups, with using intravenous (IV) midazolam sedation (M group), with using smartphone application program (S group), and with using low dose IV midazolam plus smartphone application program (SM group). And the child anxiety was assessed using the modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale (mYPAS) at holding area, 5 min after intervention, entrance to operating room. Results: In all three groups, mYPAS after intervention were lower than the preoperative holding area (M group 52.8 ± 11.8 vs 41.0 ± 7.0, S group 59.2 ± 17.6 vs 36.4 ± 7.3, SM group 58.3 ± 17.5 vs 26.0 ± 3.4). A comparison of mYPAS scores between each group showed that the S group reduced anxiety lower than M group (P < 0.01), and the SM group exhibited significantly lower anxiety than the two other groups (P < 0.01). Conclusions: The preoperative preparation program using smartphone application is simple and customized by individual development that effective in the reduction of preoperative anxiety.

Methyl bromide (MB) has been still routinely used in quarantine fumigation on imported citrus, although there had been issuing chronic inhalation toxicity to fumigators and related workers as well as phytotoxic damages after fumigation. Ethyl formate (EF), is the only option to replace MB in terms of its safety for consumers (food additive and naturally occurred) and worker with higher threshold level limit (TLV = 100 ppm). Its application technology also provide cost effectiveness, good commercial practice in terms of application time (< 10 min) for 40 ft container. The replacement of MB with EF is recommended not to fumigate with hazardous and phasing-out MB on imported oranges.
