Microstructural Evolution and Mechanical Properties of Ti-6Al-4V Alloy through Selective Laser Melting: Comprehensive Study on the Effect of Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP)

        Gargi Roy,Raj Narayan Hajra,Woo Hyeok Kim,Jongwon Lee,Sangwoo Kim,Jeoung Han Kim 한국분말재료학회(구 한국분말야금학회) 2024 한국분말재료학회지 (KPMI) Vol.31 No.1

This study explores the profound impact of varying oxygen content on microstructural and mechanical properties in specimens HO and LO. The higher oxygen concentration in specimen HO is found to significantly influence alpha lath sizes, resulting in a size of 0.5-1 μm, contrasting with the 1-1.5 μm size observed in specimen LO. Pore fraction, governed by oxygen concentration, is high in specimen HO, registering a value of 0.11%, whereas specimen LO exhibits a lower pore fraction (0.02%). Varied pore types in each specimen further underscore the role of oxygen concentration in shaping microstructural morphology. Despite these microstructural variations, the average hardness remains consistent at ~370 HV. This study emphasizes the pivotal role of oxygen content in influencing microstructural features, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the intricate interplay between elemental composition and material properties.

Chronic Myeloid Leukemia with a Complex Variant ‘Ph’ Translocation That Develops in Breast Carcinoma, Postchemotherapy: A Rare but Treatable Entity

        Gargi Tikku,Monica Jain,Pragya Shukla 한국유방암학회 2017 Journal of breast cancer Vol.20 No.2

We report a case of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) that developed after postoperative chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin and 5-fluorouracil (CAF) for breast cancer. A 55-year-old woman was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma which was treated with a modified radical mastectomy followed by six cycles of CAF chemotherapy. Nine years later, she developed CML and locoregional recurrence. Her breast recurrence showed strong estrogen receptor, weak progesterone receptor and strong human epidermal growth factor 2 (score 3+) expression. Her secondary CML in the chronic phase showed a complex variant translocation (CVT) involving chromosomes 9, 22, and 17. Considering that the HER2/neu gene is also located on chromosome 17, this secondary CML in chronic phase with CVT is indeed a rare occurrence. We discuss the associated genetic factors and the possible role of breast cancer chemo/radiotherapy in the development of such CML as well as its treatment and prognosis compared with de novo CML.

Correlation between set and reset voltages in resistive RAM cells

        Gargi Ghosh,Marius K. Orlowski 한국물리학회 2015 Current Applied Physics Vol.15 No.10

A positive correlation between set voltage, Vset, and the preceding reset voltage, jVresetj, has been observed in resistive RRAM memory arrays and explained in terms of mechanisms responsible for forming and rupturing of the conductive Cu filament. This correlation can be reproduced on a single device by generating a spread in Vreset values by varying the linear voltage ramp rate. The dependence of Vreset on voltage ramp rate can be modeled by assuming that critical Joules heat is needed to trigger the rupture of the filament. Mechanisms are proposed to explain why higher jVresetj necessarily leads to a higher Vset value during a subsequent set operation. The resulting dependence of Vset and Vreset on the voltage ramp rate during the reset operation can be used to tighten Vset and Vreset distributions, by applying low voltage ramp rates to cells with high Vset and high ramp rates to cells with low Vset values.

      • MOSAICFUSION: MERGING MODALITIES WITH PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATION AND DISCRETE COSINE TRANSFORMATION

GARGI TRIVEDI,RAJESH SANGHAVI The Korean Society for Computational and Applied M 2023 Journal of applied and pure mathematics Vol.5 No.5

In the pursuit of enhancing image fusion techniques, this research presents a novel approach for fusing multimodal images, specifically infrared (IR) and visible (VIS) images, utilizing a combination of partial differential equations (PDE) and discrete cosine transformation (DCT). The proposed method seeks to leverage the thermal and structural information provided by IR imaging and the fine-grained details offered by VIS imaging create composite images that are superior in quality and informativeness. Through a meticulous fusion process, which involves PDE-guided fusion, DCT component selection, and weighted combination, the methodology aims to strike a balance that optimally preserves essential features and minimizes artifacts. Rigorous evaluations, both objective and subjective, are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the approach. This research contributes to the ongoing advancement of multimodal image fusion, addressing applications in fields like medical imaging, surveillance, and remote sensing, where the marriage of IR and VIS data is of paramount importance.

Expectations matter: Evaluation of brand’s proenvironmental initiatives based on consumers’ brand schemas and brand familiarity

Gargi Bhaduri 한국마케팅과학회 2020 Journal of Global Fashion Marketing Vol.11 No.1

This manuscript focuses on how consumers evaluate a brand’s proenvironmental messages, its pro-environmental initiatives, and the brand itself as the effect of consumers’ schema-congruity and their ability to resolve incongruity. The study uses brands both familiar and unfamiliar to participants. An online experiment was conducted using 402 respondents. Findings indicated that consumers’ perceived message persuasiveness, their trust toward the brand’s pro-environmental initiatives, brand affect, attitude toward the brand, and eventually their behavioral intention were most favorable for congruent messages, followed by when incongruity was resolved and least when incongruity was not resolved. These findings were applicable to both familiar and unfamiliar brands. In addition, consumers’ attitude toward the brand before and after message exposure were different, with change being most positive for incongruity resolution for unfamiliar brands and least for incongruity nonresolution for familiar brands. The findings are important for established apparel brands that suffer from negative reputations but are willing to revitalize their images, and for new ventures who want to establish their image as pro-environmental. In addition, the findings contribute and extend theory by identifying a boundary condition for the schema-congruity theory.

FuseSharp: A Multi-Image Focus Fusion Method Using Discrete Wavelet Transform and Unsharp Masking

        Gargi J. Trivedi,Rajesh C. Sanghvi 한국전산응용수학회 2023 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.41 No.5

In this paper, a novel hybrid method for multi-focus image fusion is proposed. The method combines the advantages of wavelet transform-based methods and focus-measure-based methods to achieve an improved fusion result. The input images are first decomposed into different frequency sub-bands using the discrete wavelet transform (DWT). The focus measure of each sub-band is then calculated using the Laplacian of Gaussian (LoG) operator, and the sub-band with the highest focus measure is selected as the focused sub-band. The focused sub-band is sharpened using an unsharp masking filter to preserve the details in the focused part of the image. Finally, the sharpened focused sub-bands from all input images are fused using the maximum intensity fusion method to preserve the important information from all focus images. The proposed method has been evaluated using standard multi focus image fusion datasets and has shown promising results compared to existing methods.

      • Impact of Individual’s Regulatory Focus on Value Perceptions of and Willingness to Invest towards Online Mass-Customized Fashion

( Gargi Bhaduri ),( Jihyun Kim ) 복식문화학회 2018 Fashion, industry and education Vol.16 No.1

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of consumers’ regulatory focus on their perceived values of the product as well as shopping process, and willingness to invest resources for online mass-customized products. Data were collected using an online survey from 251 young adult consumers, particularly those who have prior purchase experience of mass-customized products. Interpretation of results indicated that consumers’ promotion regulatory focus impacted their perceived values of the product (social, emotional, monetary, and epistemic but not performance), perceived values of the shopping process (hedonic and utilitarian), and willingness to invest more money, time and effort. However, as anticipated, prevention regulatory focus had no significant influence on the dependent variables. Researchers provide crucial implications for brands of online mass-customized products to segment their market based on regulatory orientation, as well as better cater to customer demands by positioning their products as offering benefits that specifically caters to the needs of such consumers.

      • MRI-visible perivascular space location is associated with Alzheimer's disease independently of amyloid burden

        Banerjee, Gargi,Kim, Hee Jin,Fox, Zoe,,ger, H. Rolf,Wilson, Duncan,Charidimou, Andreas,Na, Han Kyu,Na, Duk L.,Seo, Sang Won,Werring, David J. Oxford University Press 2017 Brain Vol.140 No.4

<P>Perivascular spaces that are visible on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are a neuroimaging marker of cerebral small vessel disease. Their location may relate to the type of underlying small vessel pathology: those in the white matter centrum semi-ovale have been associated with cerebral amyloid angiopathy, while those in the basal ganglia have been associated with deep perforating artery arteriolosclerosis. As cerebral amyloid angiopathy is an almost invariable pathological finding in Alzheimer’s disease, we hypothesized that MRI-visible perivascular spaces in the centrum semi-ovale would be associated with a clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, whereas those in the basal ganglia would be associated with subcortical vascular cognitive impairment. We also hypothesized that MRI-visible perivascular spaces in the centrum semi-ovale would be associated with brain amyloid burden, as detected by amyloid positron emission tomography using 11C-Pittsburgh B compound (PiB-PET). Two hundred and twenty-six patients (Alzheimer’s disease n = 110; subcortical vascular cognitive impairment n = 116) with standardized MRI and PiB-PET imaging were included. MRI-visible perivascular spaces were rated using a validated 4-point visual rating scale, and then categorized by severity (‘none/mild’, ‘moderate’ or ‘frequent/severe’). Univariable and multivariable regression analyses were performed. Those with Alzheimer’s disease-related cognitive impairment were younger, more likely to have a positive PiB-PET scan and carry at least one apolipoprotein E ?4 allele; those with subcortical vascular cognitive impairment were more likely to have hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidaemia, prior stroke, lacunes, deep microbleeds, and carry the apolipoprotein E ε3 allele. In adjusted analyses, the severity of MRI-visible perivascular spaces in the centrum semi-ovale was independently associated with clinically diagnosed Alzheimer’s disease (frequent/severe grade odds ratio 6.26, 95% confidence interval 1.66?23.58; P = 0.017, compared with none/mild grade), whereas the severity of MRI-visible perivascular spaces in the basal ganglia was associated with clinically diagnosed subcortical vascular cognitive impairment and negatively predicted Alzheimer’s disease (frequent/severe grade odds ratio 0.03, 95% confidence interval 0.00?0.44; P = 0.009, compared with none/mild grade). MRI-visible perivascular space severity in either location did not predict PiB-PET. These findings provide further evidence that the anatomical distribution of MRI-visible perivascular spaces may reflect the underlying cerebral small vessel disease. Using MRI-visible perivascular space location and severity together with other imaging markers may improve the diagnostic value of neuroimaging in memory clinic populations, in particular in differentiating between clinically diagnosed Alzheimer’s and subcortical vascular cognitive impairment.</P>
