Green and facile production of UTSA-16 (Zn) in aqueous media with improved CO2 adsorption performance

Ranjit Gaikwad,Sanjit Gaikwad,Sangil Han 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.126 No.-

UTSA-16 (Zn) is the most promising adsorbent for CO2 capture because of its excellent CO2 capture performanceand low material cost. An eco-friendly synthesis method for UTSA-16 (Zn) was investigated bychanging the ratio of water to ethanol in solution (60:40 to 100:0) under microwave irradiation with differentwashing conditions: 1. diethyl ether and methanol washing (DEMW), 2. diethyl ether and waterwashing (DEWW), and 3. water washing (WW). Synthesis at an optimal ratio of water to ethanol(100:0) presented the best CO2 adsorption capacity of 5.08 mmol/g and CO2/N2 selectivity of 120. Theintegrity of the samples was investigated in terms of the particle morphology, crystallinity, porosity, and thermal stability using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Brunauer–Emmett–Telleranalysis, and thermogravimetric analysis. The stability of pelletized UTSA-16 (Zn) synthesized in awater-only solution was examined by exposing samples to humid air and acidic gases (NO2 and SO2);the pellets exhibited excellent stability to humid air and NO2 exposure. Additionally, the pellets exhibitedexcellent recyclability during the temperature swing adsorption–desorption process.

Functional Corrugated Board with Organic and Inorganic Materials in Food Packaging Applications: A Review

Gaikwad, Kirtiraj K.,Singh, Suman,Lee, Youn Suk Korea Society of Packaging Science and Technology 2016 한국포장학회지 Vol.22 No.3

Corrugated board provides packaging for most diverse industries with a share of over 50%, due to the numerous advantages they offer a good protection of the products. In other hand corrugated board fails in environmental conditions, indicating that relative humidity or temperature is higher. These effects directly damage the product packaged. To overcome on this problem recently corrugated boards produced with functional material, "functional corrugated boards," have become more available in the current market. A number of commercialized forms of functional material are coated or composited products with inorganic materials, for example "Nano clay" as representative. However, although the use of functional materials is increasing in corrugated boards, the several concerns such as over cost, environmental friendly materials, recycling, and toxicity affect consumer perceptions and acceptance. In the past, number of researcher focused on process of box compression and the utility of box compression testing etc., best of our knowledge there is no review paper which focus on the functional corrugated boards used in food packaging applications. This paper aims to review the availability of functional corrugated boards in the current market, past research studies on functional material and present the current status of functional corrugated boards in leading countries.

Large area (9×9cm2) electrostatically sprayed nanocrystalline zincite thin films for hydrogen production application

        Gaikwad, Rajendra S.,Chae, Sang-youn,Mane, Rajaram S.,Cai-Gangri, Rajaram S.,Han, Sung-Hwan,Joo, Oh-Shim Elsevier 2010 International journal of hydrogen energy Vol.35 No.13

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Synthesis of single phase nanocrystalline zinc ferrite (zincite) thin films that provides high surface area for active redox reactions is reported. Electrostatic spray method is employed for obtaining these ferrite films onto a stainless steel substrate of 9×9cm2 area using zinc acetate and iron nitrate precursor solutions, mixed in 1:1.5 proportions in triply-distilled water. Single zinc ferrite phase in films, confirmed from the X-ray diffraction pattern, reveals the aggregation of several nanometer-sized spherical grains. About 4nm average roughness is obtained from the 3D AFM image. Zinc ferrite film deposited onto a glass substrate shows both direct (2.96eV) and indirect (1.92eV) band gap energies. Hydrophilic behavior that might facilitate easy reaction kinetics in a water splitting process is noticed. Finally, 450mL/h hydrogen production rate is confirmed when zinc ferrite film electrode was used as an anode in presence of Pt mesh as a cathode.</P>

Home exercise program adherence strategies in vestibular rehabilitation: a systematic review

Gaikwad, Shilpa B.,Mukherjee, Tatri,Shah, Parita V.,Ambode, Oluwaseun I.,Johnsonb, Eric G.,Daher, Noha S. korean Academy of Physical Therapy Rehabilitation 2016 Physical therapy rehabilitation science Vol.5 No.2

Objective: The aim of this systematic review was to investigate for effective strategies to improve home exercise program (HEP) adherence in vestibular rehabilitation (VR). Design: Systematic review. Methods: A systematic review was conducted to identify effective strategies used to improve HEP adherence of patients in VR. Six databases, Academic Search Premier, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, PUBMED, PsycINFO, and Web of Science were searched from their inception to December 31, 2015. The keywords used for search were 'home program', 'home intervention', 'compliance', 'adherence', 'vestibular rehabilitation', 'motion sickness', and 'motion sensitivity'. Results: A total of eight studies were selected to be included in the review. There was 95.2% agreement between the two reviewers who reviewed the studies using a quality assessment tool. The overall inter-rater agreement (${\kappa}$=0.73) showed good agreement between the reviewers. Strong evidence was identified for 3 major categories of effective HEP adherence strategies, 1) providing patient with written summary of HEP; 2) asking patient to maintain a record of HEP and symptoms; and 3) providing tele-rehabilitation in form of email and/or telephone support along with in person treatment sessions. Also, based on strong evidence, computerized technology was not found to be superior to other strategies for improving patients' HEP adherence in VR. Conclusions: The effective strategies for improving HEP in VR include written summary of exercise, maintenance of log of HEP and symptoms and tele-rehabilitation along with in person treatment sessions.

      • Genetic characterization and evolutionary analysis of Newcastle disease virus isolated from domestic duck in South Korea

        Gaikwad, S.,Kim, J.Y.,Lee, H.J.,Jung, S.C.,Choi, K.S. Elsevier/North-Holland 2016 Gene Vol.579 No.1

Domestic ducks are considered a potential reservoir of Newcastle disease virus. In the study, a Newcastle disease virus (NDV) isolated from a domestic duck during surveillance in South Korea was characterized. The complete genome of the NDV isolate was sequenced, and the phylogenetic relationship to reference strains was studied. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the strain clustered in genotype I of Class II ND viruses, has highly phylogenetic similarity to NDV strains isolated from waterfowl in China, but was distant from the viruses isolated in chickens and vaccine strains used in South Korea. Pathogenicity experiment in chickens revealed it to be a lentogenic virus. The deduced amino acid sequence of the cleavage site of the fusion (F) protein confirmed that the isolate contained the avirulent motif 112GKQGRL117 at the cleavage site and caused no apparent disease in chickens and ducks. With phylogeographic analysis based on fusion gene, we estimate the origin of an ancestral virus of the isolate and its sister strain located in China around 1998. It highlights the need of continuous surveillance to enhance current understanding of the molecular epidemiology and evolution of the pathogenic strains.

Effect of scaling and root planing combined with systemic doxycycline therapy on glycemic control in diabetes mellitus subjects with chronic generalized periodontitis: a clinical study

Gaikwad, Subodh P.,Gurav, Abhijit N.,Shete, Abhijeet R.,Desarda, Hitesh M. Korean Academy of Periodontology 2013 Journal of Periodontal & Implant Science Vol.43 No.2

Purpose: The purpose of study was to compare glycemic control using glycated hemoglobin levels ($HbA_{1c}$) in diabetic patients with chronic generalized periodontitis (CGP) undergoing scaling and root planing (SRP) with and without systemic doxycycline. Methods: Fifty subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus ($T_2DM$) and CGP receiving antidiabetic therapy were selected for study. The selected subjects were randomly assigned to two groups (test group [TG] and control group [CG]) comprising 25 patients each. The TG received SRP followed by systemic doxycycline. The CG received treatment with SRP only. The periodontal parameters were recorded at baseline (day zero), and every 1 month for 4 months and included probing depth, clinical attachment level, plaque index, gingival index, and $HbA_{1c}$ level were recorded at baseline (day zero) and at the end of 4 months. Results: A statistically significant effect was demonstrated for the periodontal parameters for both the TG and CG. $HbA_{1c}$ values did not show a statistically significant difference in the treatment group as compared to the CG. Conclusions: The authors concluded that nonsurgical periodontal therapy improved glycemic control in patients with $T_2DM$ in both groups, but no statistical difference was observed with adjunctive systemic doxycycline therapy. A further study with a larger sample size is required.

Influence of Zn concentration and dye adsorption time on the photovoltaic performance of M-SILAR deposited ZnO-based dye sensitized solar cells

        Gaikwad, M.A.,Suryawanshi, M.P.,Nikam, S.S.,Bhosale, C.H.,Kim, J.H.,Moholkar, A.V. Elsevier Sequoia 2016 Journal of photochemistry and photobiology Chemist Vol.329 No.-

<P>Zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films have been deposited with ultrasonic rinsing assisted modified successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (M-SILAR) method. The effect of Zn concentration on the growth of ZnO films and power conversion efficiency (PCE) of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have been studied. The surface morphology changes from nanorods to the nanoflowers like structure as a result of coalescence of the nanorods. Also, the significant effect of the dye adsorption time of photoelectrodes on the overall PCE of ZnO based DSSCs has been investigated systematically. It is found that the chemical stability is the foremost issue for ZnO photoelectrode. The prolonged dye adsorption time is responsible for the deterioration of the ZnO nanostructure due to the formation of Zn2+/N3 dye aggregates. The DSSC prepared using photoelectrode of 0.1 M Zn concentration and dye loading time of 18 h exhibited a highest PCE of 0.70%, since it possesses well-defined 1D nanostructure which facilitates very low reverse saturation current density and longer electron lifetime.
