      • Recovery of soil gamasid mites (Acari: Mesostigmata) from the wild fire disturbance: Eight year after the fire

        Gamasid mites are top predators and occupy a central position of the soil food web in the forest ecosystem. This study investigated the soil dwelling gamasid mite community during 8-9 years after the massive mountain fire which occurred in April 2000. Total of 11 families, 44 species and 943 individuals were found. Abundance and species richness of soil gamasid mites was high in less fire-impacted sites (C2 and T3) including unburned control site (Con) than in severely impacted sites (T1 and T2). Genus Holaspina comprised 40-84% of the total abundance of gamasid mites indicating the group may play the key role in soil food web. Dominant species of gamasid mite was H. alstoni, H. communis, H. dentaus, H. ochraceus, H. trifucatus of the Genus Holaspina 5 species in all sites. Some detail biological information was pursued in this group. After 8-9 years from the massive fire, it was noted that the soil gamasid mite communities were recovered from the less severely burned sites but not from the severely burned sites.

      • Investigation of specimen database and literature of Ascotis selenaria (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) in Korea

        본 연구는 국내분포가 기록된 해충, 네눈쑥가지나방의 발생조사를 위해 실시되었다. 네눈쑥가지나방의 국내분포 발생조사를 실시하기 전 국내에 보고된 문헌과 각 연구기관의 네눈쑥가지나방 DB 및 표본을 확인하였다. 국내 발간된 문헌을 확인한 결과 한국경제곤충, 국립생물자원관에서 발간한 국가생물종목록집 및 다양한 논문과 연구보고서에서 네눈쑥가지나방의 기록을 확인할 수 있었다. DB 및 표본 확인결과 농촌진흥청에서 1924년부터 1996년까지 38건의 DB를 확인하였고, 온난화대응연구소에서 68점의 표본을 확인하였다. 또한 농림축산검역본부 제주지역본부에 서 네눈쑥가지나방의 DB와 186점의 표본을 확인하였다. 국립수목원에서는 1979년부터 2011년까지 183건의 DB를 확인하였고, 국립생물자원관에서는 408건의 DB를 확인하였다. 조사결과를 토대로 네눈쑥가지나방은 우리나라 전 지역에 분포하는 것으로 확인되었다.

        Elution Behavior of Protein and Pullulan in Asymmetrical Flow Field-flow Fractionation (AsFlFFF)

        An AsFlFFF channel was designed and built, and then tested for analysis of pullulans and proteins. Pullulans and proteins having various nominal molecular weights were injected at various conditions of the cross-flow rate (Fc) and the channel-out flow rate (Fout). The retention (measured by the retention ratio R) and the zone broadening (measured by the plate height H) were measured, and then compared with theory. When the incoming flow rate, Fin (and thus Fout) was varied with Fc fixed at 2.5 mL/min, the plate height measured for the pullulan with nominal molecular weight (M) of about 100,000 showed the trend expected by the longitudinal diffusion theory (H decreases with increasing flow rate). In contrast, when Fout was varied with the flow rate ratio, Fc/Fout, fixed constant at 5, the plate height measured for the same sample showed the trend expected from the non-equilibrium theory (H increases with increasing flow rate). Calibration plots (log D vs. log M) obtained with pullulans and proteins were not coincide, probably due to the difference in molecular conformation, suggesting the analysis of pullulans and proteins using AsFlFFF requires independent calibration. It was found that the linearity of the protein-calibration plot was improved by using a buffer solution as the carrier.

        An Educational Program against Digital Drama using Artificial Intelligence

        Cyberbullying and digital drama are on the rise among students. Therefore, this paper proposes an educational program that can enhance students' ability to use artificial intelligence(AI) technology and develop the power to respond to digital drama. In order to understand the effect of the proposed education program, this education was applied on a trial basis to 205 middle school students residing in South Korea. Moreover, the change of coping ability to the digital drama was observed before and after education. After applying for the educational program, the students' empathy(t=-5.506, p<0.001), peer conflict resolution(t=-3.842, p<0.01), and peer mediation(t=-4.213, p<0.001) improved, and did not significantly affect their anger control ability(t=-0.272, p>0.05). The educational program proposed in this paper uses AI to make it more attractive for students familiar with digital devices to participate in education and increase their educational concentration. This paper has its limitations as it is a study only for middle school students in South Korea. However, it is significant that the educational program proposed in this paper prevented the recently increased digital drama and led to a crucial change in coping ability.

        The Seoul forest of urban forest park is provide places for relaxation and feeling naturally use inside the city. This study was conducted for investigating diversity of soil microarthropods for Bioblitz. Samples were collected from rose of Sharon in soil. This species was identified as N. harrowi (Collyer), described originally from New Zealand and Austrilia. This is the new record of N. harrowi in Korea. The morphological features of these two species are closely related to each other (N. makuwa (Ehara) and N. harrowi (Collyer)). So, we compared features of this species. Dorsal setae of N. harrowi are generally longer than in N. makuwa. Two posterior seta (Z4, Z5) of N. harrowi are much shorter than in the N. makuwa. In addition, there are some differences in the shape of the spermatheca, the forked atrium is larger in N. makuwa than in the N. harrowi.

        Korean Female Humanistic Counselors’ Experience of Counseling Practice

        The purpose of this study is to explore female humanistic counselors’ experience of counseling practice in Korea. In-depth interviews were conducted of ten therapists using the QSR-NUD-IST qualitative software program. The results that emerged were grouped into three domains and nine themes. In the empathy domain, themes such as empathic understanding, flexibility and patience were drawn. In the relationship domain, strong bond with clients, consideration of clients’ relationship with significant others, support from other female professionals and some difficulty with male co-workers were reported. Finally, in the unconditional positive regard domain, personal experience and professional endeavor were obtained. Based on the results, implications for the development of Korean female humanistic counselors are discussed.

      • Review of mites of Mesostigmata in Korea

        Mesostigmata is an important predaceous mite groups in various ecosystems and considered as an Order of Subclass Acari, Superorder Parasitiformes. Among the Suborders, Sejida, Trigynaspida, Monogynaspida, Heterozerconina and Gamasina, we list 35 families and 309 species from Korea. Some of the species were newly added to the Korean fauna. It includes mites from soil, litter, compost, snake, birds and some animal habitats, but the majority is from soil. Some of them are widely used biocontrol agents of spider mites, insects and nematodes.

        Synthesis and cellular affinity of a water-soluble sulfated diselenide compound as a H2O2-responsive ionic cross-linker

        Because various stimuli can affect living organisms, substances that response to stimuli, such as H2O2,have been studied for biomaterials. To synthesize a biocompatible H2O2-responsive ionic cross-linker, wesynthesized a water-soluble H2O2-responsive diselenide compounds containing both sulfate end groups(diSe-SO4). The synthesis of diSe-SO4 was evaluated by 1H NMR and FT-IR. H2O2 responsiveness wasevaluated by UV–vis spectra, FT-IR, and XPS. The optical density at 303 nm due to diselenide in diSe-SO4was decreased in the H2O2 concentration increased. FT-IR and XPS results showed new peaks at 880 cmand 3500 cm 1, and at 63.0 eV, respectively, due to oxidized Se, which indicated the cleavage of thediselenide bond in diSe-SO4 as the H2O2 concentration increased. The ionic binding efficiency of diSe-SO4to cationic materials was confirmed by measuring the zeta-potential difference (from –15.6 mV to10.3 mV) before and after mixing with chitosan. MRC-5 cell viability and apoptosis in the presence ofdiSe-SO4 was evaluated using a CCK-8 assay and FACS, respectively. A high cell viability exceeding 95%was observed at 500 mM diSe-SO4 over 48 h of culture. In conclusion, the synthesized water-solublediSe-SO4 provides a H2O2-responsive ionic cross-linking material with a high cell affinity.

        Application of Active Imagination in a Case of Depression and Eating Disorder of a Young Caucasian Woman Residing in South Korea

        본 연구는 한국에 거주하고 있는 우울증과 섭식장애를 겪고 있는 한 외국 여성을 액티브 이메지네이션을 사용하여 치료한 사례이다. Jung (1959)의 이론에 근거하여 Johnson (1986)이 개발한 액티브 이메지네이션은 상상력의 파워를 사용하여 자아의 다양한 부분을 탐색하고 문제를 해결할 수 있도록 대화의 장을 만들어주는 하나의 심리치료적 방법이다. Johnson에 의하면 이 방법은 의식의 상태에서 환상이나 비젼 안으로 들어가 의식과 무의식적 에너지 시스템을 적극적으로 교류하는 것이다. 우선 이메지네이션으로 시작하여 이미지와 이야기하고 상호작용할 수 있다. 종종 이러한 내적 대화는 의식적인 상태를 넘어선 매우 다른 관점을 제시하게 되고 자신에 대한 새로운 통찰을 얻게 된다. 액티브 이메지네이션의 네 단계 (무의식을 초대하기, 대화와 체험, 가치의 윤리적 요인들, 행동으로 옮기기)와 본 연구의 내담자가 발견한 다섯 개의 상상 인격체들을 구체적으로 설명한다. 10회기의 액티브 이메지네이션으로 치료를 마친 결과, 내담자의 우울증세가 많이 호전되었고, 음식에 대해 긍정적으로 통제할 수 있었다. 더 나아가 내담자는 진정한 자아를 발견하고 이를 표현할 수 도 있게 되었고, 임상적 증상들이 많이 극복 되었다는 보고를 하였다. 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 몇 가지 임상적인 논의점들을 제시하였다. In this paper, the researcher provides a successful case of using the Active Imagination in treating a young Caucasian woman residing in Korea suffering from depression and an eating disorder. Active Imagination, based on Jung"s theory (1959) and developed by Johnson (1986), is a treatment methodology that uses the power of imagination in creating a dialogue with the different parts of the self in identifying and resolving problems. Johnson suggests that one can go into fantasy or vision, participate consciously in it, and make it into an active exchange between the conscious and unconscious energy systems. Beginning with an imagination, one begins to talk to the images and interact with them. Often, this internal dialogue brings forth startlingly different viewpoints from one’s conscious mind and imparts new personal insights. The four steps (invite the unconscious, dialogue and experience, add ethical element of value, make it concrete with physical ritual) of the process and patient’ interactive play with five imaginary characters in self exploration will be described in detail. After the treatment of ten sessions using Active Imagination, the client was able to recover from depression and control food intake. Finally, the client expressed that she was able to accept her life in her own terms. Several implications based on the study are discussed.
