        Fresh-cut 채소 제품이 소비자에 의해 선택되어 소비되려면 이의 친환경적 원료생산과 가공, 포장, 서빙에 이르는 전 과정에서 체계적인 품질관리가 이루어져야 하며 갈변제어, 연화제어 및 미생물적 제어 등 관련 기술의 연구개발이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 시중 유통 · 판매되고 있는 fresh-cut 채소제품의 품질을 비교평가하기 위해 현재 유통되고 있는 9개사 제품을 선정하였으며, 관능검사를 포함하여 vitamin C, 무기질, 중금속 함량, 잔류농약 및 미생물오염 정도를 조사하였다. 관능평가에서는 갈변 등 품질변화로 인해 전반적인 기호도가 그다지 높지 않았다. 채소류에서 중요 영양성분인 vitamin C 함량은 9개사 모든 제품의 주재료인 양상추에서 거의 검출되지 않았고 다른 채소류의 vatimin C 함량 역시 식품성분표보다 소량이었다. 무기질 함량 역시 극히 소량이었는데, 이는 박피, 절단 등의 최소 가공 공정을 거치면서 파괴되기 쉬운 vitamin C와 무기질이 대부분 손실되었기 때문으로 사료된다. 안전성측면에서 평가한 잔류 중금속 함량의 경우 몇 개의 제품에서 구리와 납이 소량 검출되었으며 잔류농약은 검출되지 않았다. Most fresh-cut agri-food products are less stable than the unprocessed materials from which they are made. The objective of this study was the development of a quality control system for fresh-cut agri-food products. In this study, the vitamin C, mineral, residual heavy metal contents and pesticides of various fresh-cut agri-food products were analysed. Through the sensory evaluation, the reason for the lower than expected overall acceptability in most products is that cut products are likely to cause browning and easily lose their freshness. Therefore, the postharvest technology that can maintain the quality, freshness and appearance must be supplied. Vitamin C contents did not exist in all salad products of the selected 9 companies, although vitamin C and mineral contents that are main nutrients that can be supplied mainly in salads. The results showed that vitamin C and mineral contents were very small and extremely small in other vegetables compared with the standard of a food ingredient, It is possible that vitamin C and most minerals are easily destroyed were lost through the minimal process like peeling and cutting. In safety side, the remaining heavy metal contents of fresh-cut agri-food were investigated and the results showed that copper and lead existed in some products because cadmium in agricultural produce is only controlled by the minimum standard of heavy metal contents in Korea. No residual pesticides were detected in all products.

      • Cu(Ⅱ)이온과 Poly(vinyl alcohol)간에 생성되는 고분자-금속 착물의 열역학적 거동에 관한 연구

        The dissociation constants for poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) at a constant ionic strength of μ=0.1(KCl) were measured by potentiometric titration at various temperatures. The formation constants for the Cu(II)-PVA complex at the same condition were also measured in this study. From the temperature dependence of those dissociation and formation constants, various thermodynamic parameters such as ΔG, ΔH, ΔS were determined. From the thermodynamic parameters, it was concluded that the dissociation of a proton from PVA is unfavorable with a negative entropy and positive enthalpy. In contrast, the complex formation was a spontaneous and exothermic process with favorable entropy.

      • Pd(Ⅱ)이온과 Linear Poly(ethyleneimine)간에 생성되는 고분자-금속 착물의 구조와 성질에 관한 연구

        Pd(II) metal ion has attracted interest of many researchers because of its potential applications and of its similarity and difference in chemical properties. In this study, complex formation of Pd(II) metal ion with polymeric amine ligand namely, linear poly(ethyleneimine)(LPEI), was investigated utilizing spectroscopic and potentiometric methods as well as elementary analysis. From UV/VIS spectroscopic study, complexation of LEPI to Pd(II) ion exhibit an absorption band at 347nm at the low mole ratio (below 2.0). This species can be understood either as the binuclear complex bridged by chloride ions or a complex of Pd(II) ion with three chloride ions and an amine group. At the high mixing ratio, absorption spectrum centered at 300nm was apparent, which is due to the complexation of LPEI to the Pd(II) ion. Mole ratio analysis for the LPEI-Pd(II) system revealed that complex formation was most stable at the LPEI ratio of 4.0 relative to metal ion. This result was confirmed by elementary analysis. From the potentiometric titration, successive and overall stability constants were measured and the results were analyzed by a modified Bjerrum method.

        양극성 장애 환자의 첫 삽화에 따른 임상적 특징

        Objectives : It has been reported that first episode polarity affected the course and the prognosis ofbipolar disorder. However, there is remarkable paucity of infbrmation regarding first episode polarity in bipolar disorder. We investigated the clinical characteristics related to the first episode polarity of bipolar patients who had been hospitalized. Methods : Analyses were based on the medical documents of 520 bipolar patients who had been hospitalized in 4 hospitals. We examined clinical features of the current episode, demographics, Past treatment history, suicidal attempt history, family history and comorbidhy. Clinical characteristics were compared between manic onset and depressive onset patients. Results : The mean age of the patients was 36.7 years old : they had 2.1 number of admission history and 6.6 years of illness duration. The patients beginning with depressive onset was 39.4%, and they had more diagnosis of bipolar II disorder, more number of suicidal attempts and reported more depressive mood during index admission than manic onset patients. Conclusion : Depressive onset is a common presentation in bipolar disorder. It is necessary to give more attention to depre-ssive episode in bipolar disorder. Prospective study needs to explore the correlation of first-episode of polarity and course of the illness in the future.

        Central diabetes insipidus (DI) is a syndrome characterized by thirst, polydipsia and polyuria. Langerhans cell histiocytosis is one of the etiologies of DI. Recently we experienced a central DI associated with Langerhans cell histiocytosis. The 44 years old female patient complained right hip pain polydipsia and polyuria. We carried out water deprivation test. After vasopressin injection, urine osmotic pressure was increased form 109mOsmol/Kg to 327mOsmol/Kg (300%). Brain MRI showed a thickened pituitary stalk and at hot bone CT.CT guided biopsy revealed abnormal histiocytes proliferation and abundant lymphocytes, The final diagnosis was central DI associated with systemic Langerhans cell histiocytosis invading hip bone, L-spine and pituitary stalk. Desmopressin and etoposide chemotherapy were performed to the patient.

        안정기 양극성 장애 I형 환자에서 정신병적 증상에 따른 기질과 성격

        Objectives : The aim of this study was to exam whether personality, i.e. temperament and character, has an association with a previous presence of psychotic features in euthymic bipolar I disorder. Methods : We recruited 25 psychotic patients with bipolar I disorder, 23 non-psychotic bipolar I patients and 48 normal controls. All sub]ects were asked to perform Temperament and Character Inventory (TCl). Euthymic state was defined in bipolar patients by scores of below 10 on the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) and on the Young Manic Rating Scale (YMRS). Results : Psychotic bipolar patients, compared to normal controls, showed higher harm avoidance (HA) and self-transcendence (ST). In addition, HA in psychotic bipolar patients was higher than that in non-psychotic bipolar patients. However, no significant differences on TCI were demonstrated between non-psychotic patients and normal controls. Conclusion : There are significant discrepancies in personality between psychotic and non-psychotic bipolar patients on HA and ST. These findings are consistent with the hypothesis of a continuum between bipolar disorder with psychotic features and psychotic disorders.

        Analysis of frontotemporal dementia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and other dementia-related genes in 107 Korean patients with frontotemporal dementia

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>To identify pathogenic variants in 107 Korean patients with sporadic frontotemporal dementia (FTD), 46 genes related to FTD, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and other dementias were screened by next-generation sequencing. Hexanucleotide repeats in <I>C9orf72</I> gene were also tested by repeat-primed polymerase chain reaction. Next-generation sequencing revealed one known pathogenic variant (c.708+1G>A) in the <I>GRN</I> gene in a patient with behavioral variant FTD (bvFTD). In addition, a novel in-frame deletion (c.2675_2683del) in the <I>CSF1R</I> gene was identified in a patient with bvFTD who had severe bifrontal atrophy with frontal subcortical white matter changes. Novel compound heterozygous variants in the <I>AARS2</I> gene, c.1040+1G>A and c.636G>A (p.Met212Ile), were found in a patient with bvFTD. Forty-six variants of uncertain significance were detected in other patients. None of the patients had expanded hexanucleotide repeats in <I>C9orf72</I>. These results show that pathogenic variants of known FTD genes are rare in Korean FTD patients but the <I>CSF1R</I> and <I>AARS2</I> genes should be screened for a genetic diagnosis of FTD or other dementias.</P>

        Patient-Derived Xenograft Models of Epithelial Ovarian Cancer for Preclinical Studies

        <P><B>Purpose</B></P><P>Patient-derived tumor xenografts (PDXs) can provide more reliable information about tumor biology than cell line models. We developed PDXs for epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) that have histopathologic and genetic similarities to the primary patient tissues and evaluated their potential for use as a platform for translational EOC research.</P><P><B>Materials and Methods</B></P><P>We successfully established PDXs by subrenal capsule implantation of primary EOC tissues into female BALB/C-nude mice. The rate of successful PDX engraftment was 48.8% (22/45 cases). Hematoxylin and eosin staining and short tandem repeat analysis showed histopathological and genetic similarity between the PDX and primary patient tissues.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Patients whose tumors were successfully engrafted in mice had significantly inferior overall survival when compared with those whose tumors failed to engraft (p=0.040). In preclinical tests of this model, we found that paclitaxel-carboplatin combination chemotherapy significantly deceased tumor weight in PDXs compared with the control treatment (p=0.013). Moreover, erlotinib treatment significantly decreased tumor weight in epidermal growth factor receptor–overexpressing PDX with clear cell histology (p=0.023).</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>PDXs for EOC with histopathological and genetic stability can be efficiently developed by subrenal capsule implantation and have the potential to provide a promising platform for future translational research and precision medicine for EOC.</P>

        Tat-ATOX1 inhibits streptozotocin-induced cell death in pancreatic RINm5F cells and attenuates diabetes in a mouse model

        <P>Antioxidant 1 (ATOX1) functions as an antioxidant against hydrogen peroxide and superoxide, and therefore may play a significant role in many human diseases, including diabetes mellitus (DM). In the present study, we examined the protective effects of Tat-ATOX1 protein on streptozotocin (STZ)-exposed pancreatic insulinoma cells (RINm5F) and in a mouse model of STZ-induced diabetes using western blot analysis, immunofluorescence staining and MTT assay, as well as histological and biochemical analysis. Purified Tat-ATOX1 protein was efficiently transduced into RINm5F cells in a dose-and time-dependent manner. Additionally, Tat-ATOX1 protein markedly inhibited reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, DNA damage and the activation of Akt and mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) in STZ-exposed RINm5F cells. In addition, Tat-ATOX1 protein transduced into mice pancreatic tissues and significantly decreased blood glucose and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels as well as the body weight changes in a model of STZ-induced diabetes. These results indicate that transduced Tat-ATOX1 protein protects pancreatic beta-cells by inhibiting STZ-induced cellular toxicity in vitro and in vivo. Based on these findings, we suggest that Tat-ATOX1 protein has potential applications as a therapeutic agent for oxidative stress-induced diseases including DM.</P>
