A well designed disabled home needs to consider various design principles and variables. It should consider not only physical accessibility but also psychological aspects. Previous research studies have shown that barrier-free/universal designs which were primarily focused on physical access and usage of facilities and building operations. This research paper will examine, a selection of refurbished disabled homes, introduced by the Korean Disabled Peoples Development Institutes in 2013. The plan samples are to be analyzed using the Visual Access and Exposure spatial analysis program coupled with supporting information extracted from consultations and feedback from experienced professional disabled home staff members. This research paper aims to propose the usage and viability of VAE Analysis in the design and planning of disabled home layouts. The purpose of this study is to specify the differences in visual spatial relationships between the plans before and after refurbishment in accordance to staff and user requirements. This will ensure a bettered environment for the users and ensuring an optimized of spatial programming and building operation and usage.

Interest in shared housing that can form a community by sharing space and activities and live at low costs is increasing. As popularity is increasing, especially among young people who actively want to accept a new lifestyle, various programs that share the interests and hobbies of young people are emerging. Although it has not been established as a major housing type in Korea, it is predicted that the proportion of shared housing will increase and become one housing type based on the declining birthrate and aging society and the increase in single-person households. Therefore, this study aims to propose a youth-type shared housing that introduces an eco-friendly smart farm program that responds to climate change beyond simply sharing space, leisure, and hobby activities. In the study, the direction of development was presented in terms of space, activity, and function of youth-type shared housing applied with smart farms. Smart farms, which can be grown indoors and outdoors, can be linked to spaces where various activities take place in the youth’s lifestyle. Temporary single activities that have been carried out so far can develop into sustainable activities. The application of smart farms in shared housing can save energy in shared housing through the functional advantages of smart farms. Through the application of smart farms in shared housing for young people, we would like to contribute to the direction of sustainable future shared housing development. Future research needs to present more specific spatial composition beyond the proposal to apply smart farm programs to shared housing for young people.

As the construction industry continued to depress due to the saturation of the Korean housing market, the Korean company expanded their business to overseas markets. However, since it is the position of a cultural outsider who can not fully understand the local residential culture, the business is often performed in the same way as in Korea. H apartment buildings in Hanoi, Vietnam, have almost the same structure as a unit plan for Korean apartments. Residents living in H apartments, which are different from Vietnamese traditional houses or apartments, are experiencing differences in contrast to their residential culture. Through residents, the satisfaction of the unit plan of Korean apartment could grasp whether they satisfy or not. This will be a chance for a new culture to be created from the viewpoint of residents of Vietnam, also providing a way for Korean apartments to settle in the country with less risk. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors affecting the satisfaction level of Vietnamese households living in a Korean apartment building constructed by a Korean company in Vietnam and analyze it from a cultural point of view. For this purpose, a Post Occupancy Evaluation (P.O.E) was conducted or 63 residents in Vietnam. Data mining was conducted on the datasheet with physical and resident attributes, and the residence type and characteristics were analyzed. The factors affecting the satisfaction obtained through the analysis was to derive meaning through in-depth interviews with literature and traditional Vietnamese homes and apartments residents of Korea. As a result of the analysis, the types of residents’ characteristics were analyzed for four groups. And the study analyzes the causes of dissatisfaction and satisfaction with environmental factor and spatial factor through variable analysis. Also, it is confirmed that the Vietnamese residential culture.
Evaluation of Design Issues and the Social Perceptions of the Asian Culture Complex, South Korea
Seungkwang Shon,Donghwa Shon 대한건축학회 2017 Architectural research Vol.19 No.3
This study aims to understand and analyze the social recognition and debate shown during the progress of the Asian Culture Complex (ACC) public project as well as the environmental evaluation performed by provincial community members. A 30-question survey based on a Likert scale was conducted with 150 experts. The study showed, first, that despite controversies over landmarks and historical locations, the quality of the architect’s first draft was considered fairly high. However, vibrant landmarks were greatly desired. Furthermore, respondents reported conflicting recognitions of the same concept, which were defined differently depending on the terms and concepts used by the architect. Second, historical locations were considered important. The architects’ final design was modified based on quality and in response to social pressure, resulting in the partial retention of the provincial government annex building. Although the first draft was considered to be of high quality, the modified plan was considered even better than the original design, revealing the 2-fold characteristics of the identical phenomenon in the environmental evaluation. Third, many groups held opinions that were balanced between the architects’ originality and the value of community-based recognition; hence, the social inclination and evaluation of the project differed across the public.
The Pattern Analysis of Living Characteristics in Vietnamese Apartments Using Self-Organizing Map
Jaepil Choi,Donghwa Shon,Youngwoo Kim,Junekyung Kang,Eunha Kim 한국주거학회 2015 한국주거학회 국제학술대회논문집 Vol.2015 No.4
The need for big data extraction and analysis in the field of architecture is heightening high with the development of information-oriented society. It is because non-computer, human-eye analysis reached its limit in aggregation and understanding of data upon the accumulation of various architectural data, such as Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE), usage patterns, behavioral patterns, environment, and performance evaluation. In order to make an analysis of such data, it is effective to employ SOM (Self-Organizing Map) analysis, a clustering method by unsupervised learning that allows the overall comprehension, visualization, and interpretation of a multi-dimensional dataset. This research is a part of a research that applies data-mining method to architecture-related fields. Its purpose is to connect architectural information including the level of satisfaction to the properties of residents and aggregate and visualize them. Research subjects were 63 households in Vietnamese residence. It conducted the dating of extracted factors through post-occupancy evaluation and plans, and performed a SOM analysis on: 1. Preference and level of satisfaction on block and unit plan; 2. Environmental properties of current residence; and 3. Usage patterns of residents. As a result, this research was able to classify the residents into three groups by their resident properties and derive suggestions for improvement in architectural planning, based on differences among the groups.
