Highly uniform electrochromic tungsten oxide thin films deposited by ebeam evaporation for energy saving systems

Dilek Evecan,Esra Zayim 한국물리학회 2019 Current Applied Physics Vol.19 No.2

In the last few decades, there has been a surge of interest in using tungsten oxide thin films as an active layer of electrochromic device. These devices have several practical applications such as smart window of buildings and automobile glazing for energy saving. The main objective of this work was to construct highly homogeneous and uniform e-beam evaporated amorphous WO3-x based films into electrochromic devices, which were fully characterized for switching speed, coloration efficiencies and cycling voltammetry responses. Fabricated devices contain indium doped transparent oxide coated glass as the transparent conductive electrode, ∼200 nm thickness of WO3-x as the cathodically coloring material and a lithium perchlorate based conducting gel electrolyte. Xray diffraction patterns indicate that all as-deposited films are amorphous. Experimental results showed that both solid and liquid electrolyte electrochromic devices are initially very transparent that exhibit perfect optical modulation and coloration efficiency (up to 68.7 cm2 /C and 52.6 cm2 /C at 630 nm, respectively) due to easier intercalation of the Li+ within their structure. One of the more significant findings to emerge from this study is that e-beam coated electrochromic devices based on tungsten oxide thin films showed superior performance among to other coating methods. Therefore, excellent reversibility of color change behavior is attractive for pertinent use in electrochromic energy storage devices.

Genetic Variations in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Subtypes and Treatment Resistant Cases

        Dilek Unal,Mehmet Fatih Unal,Mehmet Alikasifoglu,Arda Cetinkaya 대한신경정신의학회 2016 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.13 No.4

ObjectiveaaWe evaluated the distribution of alpha-2A adrenergic receptor (ADRA2A) and catechol-o-methyltransferase (COMT) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) among ADHD subtypes and other homogeneous patient populations including treatment-resistant cases and patients with high symptom severity. Methodsaa121 ADHD patients aged 6–18 years were included in the study. Diagnosis and subtypes designation were confirmed using the Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia (K-SADS) and symptoms were evaluated using the Conners’ Parent (CPRS) and Teacher Rating Scales (CTRS). The response to methylphenidate was assessed objectively using the Clinical Global Impression-Severity Scale (CGI-S) and Global Assessment of Functioning Scale (GAS) as well as the Continuous Performance (CPT) and Trail Making tests (TMT-A, B). Patients were genotyped for ADRA2A (rs1800544) and COMT (rs4680) SNPs by PCR/RFLP and compared to a gender-matched control group. ResultsaaAlthough there was no association of COMT (rs4680) SNP with symptoms or diagnosis, the ADRA2A polymorphism, low socioeconomic status (SES), and comorbid psychiatric diagnosis were all associated with poor response to methylphenidate in logistic regression analysis. ConclusionaaClinicians may consider adjuvant strategies when these negative factors are present to increase the success of tailored ADHD treatments in the future.

Dilek Yildirim,Özlem Akman 사단법인약침학회 2021 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.14 No.3

Background: Nursing students experience clinical stress frequently and severely. The application of acupressure is reported to be effective in stress management. Objectives: This study was conducted to determine the effects of acupressure on reducing the stress of nursing students in clinical practice. Methods: This study was carried out using a single-blind randomized controlled experimental design. The experimental and control groups were randomly determined by using a previously prepared randomization checklist. A Participant Information Form, VAS, and the State Anxiety Inventory were applied to all students before practice. Acupressure was performed on the HT7 point and Yintang point (EX-HN3), respectively, every five minutes for a total of 30 minutes in the experimental group. Results: The level of stress experienced by the students in the experimental group before the intervention according to VAS was 6.95 ± 1.57, and it was determined as 2.82 ± 1.94 after the third application (p < 0.05). The mean clinical stress score before the application was 46.54 ± 3.81, and after the 3 rd week of application, it was 25.15 ± 5.26 (p < 0.05). It was observed that the students' stress levels decreased in all measurements made after the acupressure intervention. Conclusion: This study determined that acupressure effectively reduces the stress levels of nursing students, and it may be applied in clinical stress management.

Is Human Kallikrein 11 in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Treated Chemoradiotherapy Associated with Survival?

        Dilek Unal,Celalettin Eroglu,Arzu Tasdemir,Hatice Karaman,Neslihan Kurtul,Arzu Oguz,Sema Sezgin Goksu,Bunyamin Kaplan 대한암학회 2016 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.48 No.1

Purpose Involvement of human kallikreins (hKs) in human cancers has been reported and several hKs are promising biomarkers of various cancers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic significance of hK11 expression in patients with non-metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Materials and Methods The study included 44 patients with NSCLC. hK11 expression was determined by immuno- histochemical staining. Results The estimation of disease-free and overall survival by Kaplan-Meier was 11 months and 17 months, respectively. The estimation of overall survival by Kaplan-Meier was significantly higher in patients with hK11 strongly positive (2+) than in those with hK11 weakly positive (1+) (20 months vs. 11 months, p=0.032). Although not statistically different, the estimation of disease-free survival by Kaplan-Meier was higher in patients with hK11 strongly positive (2+) than in those with hK11 weakly positive (1+) (12 months vs. 9 months, p=0.113). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that the overall survival rates were significantly associated with response to chemoradiotherapy and the degree of staining with hK11. Conclusion The stronger hK11 expression in NSCLC appears to be associated with better survival rates. hK11 may be a prognostic biomarker of NSCLC.

Leptin, Nesfatin-1, Orexin-A, and Total Ghrelin Levels in Drug-Naive Panic Disorder

        Dilek Örüm,Sevda Korkmaz,Nevin İlhan,Mehmet Hamdi Örüm,Murad Atmaca 대한신경정신의학회 2024 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.21 No.2

Objective This study aimed to examine the changes in serum nesfatin-1, leptin, orexin-A, and total ghrelin levels of patients diagnosed with drug-naive panic disorder (PD) before and after six weeks of the treatment and to compare the findings with the healthy subjects. Methods The neuropeptides were measured in venous blood samples taken from 32 patients and 32 healthy subjects. The blood samples of the patients who used paroxetine 20 mg/day plus alprazolam 0.5 mg/day were retaken again after six weeks. Measurements were performed with the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method. Results Serum nesfatin-1, leptin, orexin-A and total ghrelin levels of the patient group were found to be significantly lower than the control group (p<0.001, p<0.001, p<0.001, and p<0.001, respectively). When the serum nesfatin-1, leptin, orexin-A and total ghrelin levels of the patient group were compared before and after treatment, significant differences were found in terms of orexin-A and total ghrelin levels (p=0.046, p<0.001, respectively). However, no significant differences were found in terms of nesfatin-1and leptin levels (p=0.205, p=0.988, respectively). Conclusion This study reports that PD, like other anxiety disorders, may affect serum nesfatin-1, leptin, orexin-A, and total ghrelin levels, and there may be a relationship between PD treatment and the levels of these neuropeptides. The variability of this relationship among the neuropeptides examined indicates that various factors other than treatment play a role in this process.

How do Turkish nursing students plan their career after the graduation?: a questionnaire survey

Dilek Yildirim,Ayla Kececi,Serap Bulduk 서울대학교 교육연구소 2011 Asia Pacific Education Review Vol.12 No.3

This research was planned as a cross-sectional and descriptive study for the purpose of determining nursing students' expectations from a workplace and what department, area, and positions they want to work in after graduation. The research population was comprised of the four university-based schools of nursing in Ankara province. The sample was comprised of 447 nursing students. A questionnaire developed by the researchers in light of information in the literature was used for data collection and had three sections including the participants' demographic characteristics, questions asking about where they wanted to work and expectations from the workplace where they want to work. The overwhelming majority of the students wanted to work as an academician at the university or in management at a hospital. The highest percentage of students wanted to work in pediatrics and the operating room, and the lowest percentage wanted to work in psychiatric nursing, geriatrics and care for the handicapped. The primary expectations students had from the workplaces where they wanted to work after graduation been an orientation to the workplace and educational opportunities, opportunities for promotion and job satisfaction. Explaining to students that the most significant need in the nursing profession is the shortage of nurses responsible for direct patient care may prevent them from developing wrong expectations and goals in their career planning.

External Jugular Vein Catheterization Using ‘Intra-Atrial Electrocardiogram’

        Dilek Karaaslan,Ugur Altinisik,Tulay Tuncer Peker,Esra Nayir,Sadik Ozmen 연세대학교의과대학 2009 Yonsei medical journal Vol.50 No.2

Purpose: To investigate the reliability of intra-atrial electrocardiogram (ECG) use for external jugular vein (EJV) catheterization. Materials and Methods: Patients undergoing open heart surgery in Suleyman Demirel University Hospital between February and June 2006 were included in the study. Using a sterile Seldinger technique, a triple lumen polyurethane central venous catheter was introduced (Certofix® Trio V 720, length 20 cm, 7 French) under intra-atrial ECG guidance. The presence of an increase in P-wave size was recorded. Just after the surgery, a portable chest X-ray was taken. The method was considered to be successful when a change in P-wave could be seen and the catheter was in the superior vena cava, as well as when there was no change in P-wave and the catheter was not in the superior vena cava. Results: In six patients (12%), we were not able to advance the guidewire. In the remaining 44 patients, the catheter was inserted without problem. Eight of these 44 catheters were positioned in the innominate vein, with a malposition ratio of 18%. The success rate of external jugular vein cannulation with intra-atrial ECG was 95%. No complications occured related to the EJV cannulation. Conclusion: Considering that it is easily accessed without complication, and the malposition is successfully detected by intra-atrial ECG, EJV is a suitable access for central venous cannulation when internal jugular vein (IJV) is not usable.
