This study performed phytochemical and bioactiveassessments of the mangrove Lumnitzera racemosaWilld. leaves. Bioassay-guided fractionation of the methanolicextracts led to the identification of thirty-six compounds(1–36), their structures were elucidated using detailed NMRspectroscopic and MS analysis. The extracts, fractions, andthe isolated compounds were screened for potential antioxidantand cytotoxic activities. Antioxidant assays wereperformed using peroxyl radical-scavenging and reducingassays, whereas cytotoxicity was measured using MTTassays in HL-60 and Hel-299 cell lines. The methanolicextract, CH2Cl2 and n-BuOH fractions (10.0 lg/mL)exhibited potent antioxidant activity, with Trolox equivalent(TE) values of 24.94 ± 0.59, 28.34 ± 0.20, and27.09 ± 0.37 (lM), respectively. In addition, the isolatedcompounds exerted cytotoxic effects in a dose-dependentmanner; compounds 1 and 14 exhibited the most potentcytotoxicity in HL-60 cells, with IC50 values of 0.15 ± 0.29and 0.60 ± 0.16 lM, respectively. To clarify the mechanism(s) behind these cytotoxic effects, we measured thetime-dependent changes in apoptotic markers including thecondensation and fragmentation of nuclear chromatin, andthe downregulation of p-ERK1/2, p-AKT, and c-Myc levels.
Bioconversion of propane to propanol using recombinant Escherichia coli as a biocatalyst

Methylocella silvestris BL2 is a facultative methanotroph that has a unique ability to grow on methane and to utilize various multi-carbon compounds. M. silvestris BL2 is able to grow on propane by the presence and expression of two gene clusters including a soluble monooxygenase and a putative propane monooxygenase (PrMO) that can convert propane to propanol. In this research, the whole gene cluster of PrMO from M. silvestris BL2 including native promoter and noncoding region was amplified by PCR and successfully cloned into broad host range vector for expression in Escherichia coli. The recombinant E. coli that heterologously expressed PrMO was found to oxidize propane at both terminal and sub-terminal positions as resulting in formation of 1-propanol and 2-propanol, respectively.

Natural one-carbon metabolic pathways in native hosts such as methylotrophs have recently been reconstructed in non-native hosts mainly in methanol. Engineering strategy for methanol bioconversion was the implementation of NAD-dependent methanol dehydrogenase (MDH) and co-expressing two key enzymes in ribulose monophosphate cycle (RuMP) were hexulose-6-phosphate synthase (Hps) and 6-phospho-3-hexuloisomerase (Phi). MDH and several Hps-Phi gene clusters as well as artificial fusion forms from different type I methanotrophs were cloned and screened. As a results, in vitro activity of mdh and Hps-Phi were detected. The data provided new opportunities for reconstruction of methanol metabolic pathway from methanotrophs into non-native hosts.
Behavior Culture with the COVID-19 Pandemic in Vietnam and the Republic of Korea
( Le Thi Ngoc Diep ),( Nguyen Le Uyen Diem ) 부경대학교 글로벌지역학연구소 2021 Journal of Global and Area Studies(JGA) Vol.5 No.2
2020 was a year of a global pandemic. It started in the densely populated city of Wuhan in China in December 2019. In just a few months, the COVID-19 pandemic spread rapidly to the whole world. Experts say that this is the most complicated and long-lasting pandemic in the world. The current situation shows that the COVID-19 pandemic breaks in stages according to its severity, with varying degrees of change, but has been basically controlled in some countries and regions, such as China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Republic of Korea (RoK), Vietnam and other countries. When examining prevention and control of the pandemic, cultural factors such as awareness, task organization and the behavior of Vietnamese and the Republic of Korean people must be discussed. These are the unrecognized factors that allowed for the initial success of pandemic prevention and control in the two countries. This study examines the interdisciplinary research results on the COVID-19 pandemic in the world so far, especially in Vietnam and the RoK. The study focuses on the necessity of cultural factors, which are the “soft power” in this situation, that makes important contributions to the story of pandemic prevention and control, as well as the experience and lessons of responding to the pandemic diseases in Vietnam and the RoK.
