This paper shows the development of a power supply system to solve the anomalous voltage sag, power failure and peak cut demand. This power supply system includes an UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), a standby generator and a Hybrid Switch, which is the integration of mechanical switches and IGBTs with good performance of low conducting loss and fast opening time. The results of a real-time simulation demonstrate its voltage compensation can perform within 2 ms response time when power failure occurs and transfer without voltage down between micro grid operation and gird-connected operation. Also, they are successfully validated by using a prototype system.

Three-phase input diode rectifier interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drives with small-volume film capacitors have many merits, such as high reliability, low cost and high power density. However, in regenerative braking, the DC-link voltage becomes harder to be controlled than the traditional topology due to the application of slim film capacitors. In this paper, an anti-overvoltage strategy is proposed by controlling the electrical power of the motor directly. The q-axis current boundary is determined by the proposed power controller. Compared with the conventional method of voltage controller, the proposed method is more suitable for electrolytic capacitorless drives.
Synchronization for complex networks with interval delay via Finsler’s Lemma

By using an new inequality from Newton-Leibniz formula, and introducing Finsler’s Lemma, a new synchronization analysis method is obtained. Different from existing results, Finsler’s Lemma with variable subintervals are firstly used to introduce more free weighting matrices in synchronization criteria. Finally, numerical example proved the proposed result.
Effect of crumb rubber on compressive behaviour of CRCFST stub columns

This paper investigates the effect of crumb rubber (CR) on compressive behaviour of crumb rubber concrete filled steel tube (CRCFST) stub columns. Therefore, experiments on 16 stub columns subjected to axial loading are carried out. The results show that the failure modes of CRCFST stub columns with different CR replacement ratios and CR size are similar, manifested the buckling of the outer steel tube. The axial bearing capacity and stiffness both decrease with an increase in CR replacement ratio, and with decreasing CR size.

This work is to investigate the creep subsidence of a large-scale ocean lighthouse constructed on a reclaimed calcareous coral sand foundation (abbreviated to RCCSF thereafter) in the South China Sea (SCS). Firstly, two modified Burgers creep models, referred to as modified HBM and KBM, respectively, are proposed and validated based on several triaxial creep test results, and then both are implanted into ABAQUS. Secondly, the model parameters of the modified Huang’s Burgers Creep Model (HBM) and Kong’s Burgers Creep Model (KBM) for the RCCSF are carefully calibrated for the subsequent numerical modelling according to the creep tests conducted by us. Thirdly, based on the modified HBM and KBM proposed in this study and the calibrated model parameters, the subsidence of an ocean lighthouse constructed on a reclaimed land in the South China Sea is numerically analyzed. The numerically predicted results illustrate that the creep subsidence of the ocean lighthouse in the future 50-year is 17.2 mm to 42.5 mm, meeting the mandatory requirement (<200 mm) stipulated by the China national design code. Finally, the sensitivity of the predicted creep subsidence to the model parameters is screened by performing parametric analysis.

A droplet-based microfluidic device for long-term culture and longitudinal observation of Caenorhabditis eleganswas presented. The worms were encapsulated in W/O droplets and controllably introduced into separate chambers, where the medium/oil or medium/air interface can be manipulated by a gravity -actuated technique, for lifelong culture. This device also contained clamp structures for reversibly immobilization of each worm separately, and thus we were able to track more details about each worm. Several phenotypes of worms were monitored from their fourth larva stage to death. The relationship between worm body length, stroke frequency and lifespan with this device was then studied. This device had a potential in various longitudinal researches on C. elegans including aging, drug screening, toxicity evaluation and etc.

Gynostemma pentaphyllum (GP) is a natural plant resources for diabetes therapy, however, there is little research on the mechanisms of GP. The present study was undertaken to characterize if G. pentaphyllum saponins (GPs) is the principal active compound of GP responsible for anti-diabetes, and to examine the relativity between blood glucose modulate and antioxidation. The GPs-treated streptozotocin diabetic rats had a more effective hypoglycemic status than those of diabetic control rats, which also ameliorate dyslipidemia. GPs has increased SOD and GSH-px activities, and the spleen and thymus indexes in diabetic rats. The insulin levels in the GPs-treated groups were significantly higher than diabetic control group. Our finding provides a new insight into the application of GPs for the treatment of oxidative stress related diseases.
