      • Establishing New Converts in Church Planting: The Pauline Model

        Church planting may be said to be as old as Christianity itself. However, the outstanding church planter seems to be Paul the Apostle who happened to earn the cognomen ``Second Founder of Christianity`` in Church history. However, the reality on ground is that church planters of today, unlike Paul, are not making it. Consequently, the study sought to unearth the reasons behind the accomplishments of Paul. This inquiry has made known that success or failure, in the realm of evangelism in general and church planting in particular, is contingent on the methods employed. Therefore, this paper argues that the key to church planting resides not only in spending longer periods with the new converts but also encompasses visitations of the evangelist, delegation of associates, appointment of elders, and writing of timely letters in order to provide the necessary spiritual mentorship.

      • The Ontology of the Ordained Person: A Theological Evaluation

        Ordination is a significant concept in the history of the Christian Church. The urgency for denominations to formulate a theology of ordination shows that the issue has gone beyond scholarship and becomes a matter crucial to faith. In the absence of a biblical systematic theology of ordination, the quest to know what ordination confers to the ordained person remains problematic. It is in this context that should be understood the functional- ontological dilemma posed by the act of ordination. Through a theological survey, however, this study claims that ordination per se bestows nothing supernatural susceptible to change the ontological make-up of the recipient. Said differently, ordination is a human recognition of the calling of an individual through the laying on of hands that grants more prerogatives and thereby enables the beneficiary to function as an authorized representative of the Church.ABSTRACT-Ordination is a significant concept in the history of the Christian Church.         Ginsenoside Rg1 modulates medial prefrontal cortical firing and suppresses the hippocampo-medial prefrontal cortical long-term potentiation

        Background: Panax ginseng is one of the most commonly used medicinal herbs worldwide for a variety of therapeutic properties including neurocognitive effects. Ginsenoside Rg1 is one of the most abundant active chemical constituents of this herb with known neuroprotective, anxiolytic, and cognition improving effects. Methods: We investigated the effects of Rg1 on the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), a key brain region involved in cognition, information processing, working memory, and decision making. In this study, the effects of systemic administration of Rg1 (1 mg/kg, 3 mg/kg, or 10 mg/kg) on (1) spontaneous firing of the medial prefrontal cortical neurons and (2) long-term potentiation (LTP) in the hippocampal-medial prefrontal cortical (HP-mPFC) pathway were investigated in male Sprague-Dawley rats. Results: The spontaneous neuronal activity of approximately 50% the recorded pyramidal cells in the mPFC was suppressed by Rg1. In addition, Rg1 attenuated LTP in the HP-mPFC pathway. These effects were not dose-dependent. Conclusion: This report suggests that acute treatment of Rg1 impairs LTP in the HP-mPFC pathway, perhaps by suppressing the firing of a subset of mPFC neurons that may contribute to the neurocognitive effects of Rg1.

        Flexural behaviour and capacity of composite panels of light gage steel and concrete

        Eight panel specimens were tested in one-way bending to study the behaviour and capacity of composite slab joists consisting of cold-formed steel C-sections and concrete. Various shear transfer mechanisms were implemented on the C-section flange embedded in the concrete to provide the longitudinal shear resistance. Results showed that all specimens reached serviceability limit state while in elastic range and failure was ductile. Shear transfer achieved for all specimens ranged from 42 to 99% of a full transfer while specimens employed with shear transfer enhancements showed a greater percentage and therefore a higher strength compared with those relying only on surface bond to resist shear. The implementation of pre-drilled holes on the embedded flange of the steel C-section was shown to be most effective. The correlation study between the push-out and panel specimens indicated that the calculated moment capacity based on shear transfer resistance obtained from push-out tests was, on average, 10% lower than the experimental ultimate capacity of the panel specimen.

        Thermomechanical buckling of rectangular, shear-deformable, composite laminated plates

        The B-spline finite strip method is developed for the prediction of the buckling of rectangular composite laminated plates under the combined action of applied uniaxial mechanical stress and increasing temperature. The analysis is conducted in two stages, namely an in-plane stress analysis in the pre-buckling stage to determine the pre-buckling stresses, followed by a buckling analysis using these determined stresses. The buckling analysis is based on the use of first-order shear deformation plate theory. The permitted lay-up of the laminates is quite general, within the constraint that the plate remains flat prior to buckling, and a wide range of boundary conditions can be accommodated. A number of applications is described and comparison of the results generated using the finite strip method is made with the results of previous studies.

        Controlling the Properties of OPEFB/PLA Polymer Composite by Using Fe2O3 for Microwave Applications

        Microwave-absorptive polymer composite materials provide protection against interference to communication systems caused by microwave-inducing devices. Microwave-absorptive polymer composites were prepared from polylactic acid (PLA) biocomposite blended with oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) fiber and commercial Iron oxide (Fe2O3) as filler using the melt-blending method. The composites characterization was carried out using the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses. The coefficient of reflection S11 and coefficient of transmission S21 of the composites for various Fe2O3 filler percentages were determined using a rectangular waveguide in connection with microwave vector network analyser (HP/Agilent model PNA N5227). These coefficients were then used to calculate microwave-absorption properties (in decibels). XRD analysis showed that increasing amounts of reinforced material (Fe2O3) reduces the crystallinity of the composites. SEM data indicated that Fe2O3 filler ratio increased in the composites, and adhesion to the cellulose fiber grew gradually until the highest percentage of filler was added. The complex relative permittivity and relative permeability were obtained within the broad frequency range of 8-12 GHz at room temperature for various percentages of filler and were measured by the transmission/reflection method using a vector network analyser. Fe2O3 embedment in OPEFB/PLA was observed to have resulted in enhancing the dielectric and magnetic properties. The values of permittivity and permeability increased with increasing Fe2O3 filler content. Theoretical simulation studied the relation between ε' and ε" of the relative complex permittivity in terms of Cole-Cole dispersion law. The result indicated that the processes of Debye relaxation in Fe2O3/OPEFB/PLA, the unique dielectric characteristics of Fe2O3 cannot be accounted for by both the Debye dipolar relaxation and natural resonance. Results further showed that the material transmission, reflection, and absorption properties could be controlled by changing the percentage of Fe2O3 filler in the composites.

        Responses of Eukaryotic Cells to Oxidative Stress

        Oxidative stress is implicated in a number of diseases, in ageing of organisms, and in damage to plants that have been exposed to freezing and thawing or water stress. From the perspective of yeast as a model eukaryotic system, this article reviews the systems that are involved in the cellular responses to exposure to reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated during aerobic growth of the organism. The discussion includes the defense systems involved, the ability of cells to adapt to ROS treatment, cell-division cycle delay and the systems regulating gene expression that are activated by oxidative stress.

        Van Der Waals Force Mediated, Rotationally Aligned Dry-Transfer-Stacking of Two-Dimensional Tungsten Diselenide

        Rotationally aligned, two-dimensional (2D), transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) exhibit unique electronic, optical, and optoelectronic properties compared to random stacking. Rotationally aligned graphene stacking was demonstrated previously for numerous exotic phenomena, such as superconductivity, resonant tunneling, and moiré pattern. However, rotationally aligned dry-transfer techniques of TMDs, have yet to be demonstrated. Here, we show a simple method of selective cutting of a few-layer tungsten diselenide (WSe2) flake and rotationally aligning it by using dry-transfer stacking. The dry transfer techniques used for this study were adapted to maintain low sample contamination, a high-quality interface, a low number of defects. A combination of viscoelastic and thermoelastic materials was used for the TMD pickup and release to facilitate the rotationally aligned stacking. Aligned WSe2 stacks were characterized by Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy to evaluate the integrity of the fabricated stack. This study highlights the possibility of using a rotationally aligned, artificial stacking method for exfoliated TMD materials for future electronic and optoelectronic applications.
