Analysis of Asymmetric Price Transmission of Regional Potato Markets in Ecuador
Hernandez Cruz Themiz Eduardo,이윤숙 한국농식품정책학회 2023 농업경영정책연구 Vol.50 No.1
This study analyzed spatial price transmission of potato markets in Ecuador. Price transmission is an essential indicator to understand a market system. To evaluate asymmetric price transmission between two spatial markets, the Nonlinear Autoregressive Distributed Lag (NARDL) model was applied in the study. The four major provinces such as Quito, Latacunga, Riobamba and San Gabriel of potato production are selected and spatial market data are collected from the System of Agriculture Pubic Information in Ecuador. The study found that there exist asymmetric price transmissions between Riobamba and Latacunga, and Riobamba and San Gabriel for long and short run. Quito and Latacunga, and Riobamba and Quito showed asymmetric price transmission for long run, but not for short run. The positive and negative effects of the long-run relationship between Riobamba and Quito and between Riobamba and San Gabriel are bigger than between other spatial markets. It is the first study to provide empirical information about regional potato markets.

Background: An association between alcohol/tobacco use and risk of metastasis in breast cancer has been clearly shown. Materials and Methods: The present study explored, in 48 samples of tissue from mammary ductal carcinoma (taken from Mexican women with an average age of $58.2{\pm}10.9$ years), the association of risk of metastasis with the status of hormonal receptors and the c-erbB2 protein (by immunohistochemistry) as well as clinical, histopathological and sociodemographic factors. Results: Of 48 patients, 41.6% (20/48) presented with metastasis, 43.8% were positive for the estrogen receptor (RE+), 31.3% for the progesterone receptor (RP+) and 47.7% for c-erbB2 (c-erbB2+). The following combinations were found: RE+/RP+/c-erbB2+ 8.3%, RE+/RP+ 22.9%, RE+/RP- 20.8%, RE-/RP+ 8.3%, RE-/RP-/c-erbB2- 22.9% and RE-/RP- 47.8%. There were 12 patients who used alcohol/tobacco, of which 91.6% did not present metastasis and 81.9% were RE-/RP-. Compared to the RE-/RP-/c-erbB2+, the RE+/RP+/c-erbB2+ group had a 15-fold greater risk for metastasis (95%CI, 0.9-228.8, p=0.05). The carriers of the double negative hormonal receptors had a 4.7 fold greater probability of being (or having been) smokers or drinkers (95%CI, 1.0-20.4, p = 0.03). Conclusions: There was a clear protective effect of using alcohol and/or tobacco, in the cases included in the present study of mammary ductal carcinoma, associated with double negative hormonal receptors. However, this association could be due to a protective factor not measured (Neyman bias) or to a bias inherent in the rate of hospitalization (Berkson fallacy). This question should be explored in a broad prospective longitudinal study.

Due to the unpredictable nature of channel availability, carrying delay-sensitive traffic in cognitive radio networks (CRNs) is very challenging. Spectrum leasing of radio resources has been proposed in the so called coordinated CRNs to improve the quality of service (QoS) experienced by secondary users (SUs). In this paper, the performance of coordinated CRNs under fixed-rate with hard-delay-constraints traffic is analyzed. For the adequate and fair performance comparison, call admission control strategies with fractional channel reservation to prioritize ongoing secondary calls over new ones are considered. Maximum Erlang capacity is obtained by optimizing the number of reserved channels. Numerical results reveal that system performance strongly depends on the value of the mean secondary service time relative to the mean primary service time. Additionally, numerical results show that, in CRNs without spectrum leasing, there exists a critical utilization factor of the primary resources from which it is not longer possible to guarantee the required QoS of SUs and, therefore, services with hard delay constraints cannot be even supported in CRNs. Thus, spectrum leasing can be essential for CRN operators to provide the QoS demanded by fixed-rate applications with hard delay constraints. Finally, the cost per capacity Erlang as function of both the utilization factor of the primary resources and the maximum allowed number of simultaneously rented channels is evaluated.
Data Alignment for Data Fusion in Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks Based on M2M
( Jose Roberto Perez Cruz ),( Saul E. Pomares Hernandez ),( Enrique Munoz De Cote ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2012 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.6 No.1
Advances in MEMS and CMOS technologies have motivated the development of low cost/power sensors and wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSN). The WMSNs were created to ubiquitously harvest multimedia content. Such networks have allowed researchers and engineers to glimpse at new Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Systems, such as remote monitoring of biosignals for telemedicine networks. These systems require the acquisition of a large number of data streams that are simultaneously generated by multiple distributed devices. This paradigm of data generation and transmission is known as event-streaming. In order to be useful to the application, the collected data requires a preprocessing called data fusion, which entails the temporal alignment task of multimedia data. A practical way to perform this task is in a centralized manner, assuming that the network nodes only function as collector entities. However, by following this scheme, a considerable amount of redundant information is transmitted to the central entity. To decrease such redundancy, data fusion must be performed in a collaborative way. In this paper, we propose a collaborative data alignment approach for event-streaming. Our approach identifies temporal relationships by translating temporal dependencies based on a timeline to causal dependencies of the media involved.

Philippine pigmented traditional rice varieties (TRVs) ofer potential novel genes for genetic improvement. In this study, forty-three pigmented traditional rice varieties (TRVs) from Region X, XII and XIII in Mindanao were evaluated using 47 agromorphological (22 qualitative and 25 quantitative) traits, grain chemical properties, disease reaction, insect pests, and 64 SSR markers. The standardized Shannon–Weaver diversity index for phenotypic diversity averaged at 0.30 for qualitative and 0.88 for quantitative traits. Desirable traits observed in the TRVs include erect fag leaf, pubescent leaf blade, and strong culm for lodging resistance. Three TRVs, Malagkit (CollNo. 4555), Dinorado (CollNo. 11071), and Canayo (CollNo. 12794) showed resistance to blast. While Kabuyok (CollNo. 1091), Kabuyog (CollNo. 11052), Dinorado (CollNo. 12786), Lubang (Red) (CollNo. 4541), Manganahaw (CollNo. 4570), Palawenyo (CollNo. 6361), Boringan (CollNo. 4291), Mixture from Kabuyok (CollNo. 11070) and Mimis (CollNo. 1092) recorded intermediate resistance to whiteheads. Tapul (CollNo. 5156) was identifed to have blast resistance with desirable grain chemical properties: intermediate amylose content, low gelatinization temperature and medium cooked rice. The PIC values revealed that RM26550, RM28166, RM10665, RM27492 and RM23251 could be the best markers for genetic diversity estimation of these TRVs. The diversity at gene level showed average of 3.48 alleles ranging from 2 to 11 per locus. Mean gene diversity (H) value for all SSR loci was at 0.34, indicates moderate genetic diversity of TRVs used in the study. These pigmented TRVs can be tapped for pests/diseases resistance, and grain quality research, direct utilization or as parents in specifc breeding purposes.

This study reports on the rheology of the gelation kinetics of raw chitosan (CTS) solutions (2% w/v) produced by enzymatic hydrolysis of urea at different urea concentrations (40, 50, 60, 80, and 100 mM) in the presence of urease at 1 U/mL. Viscoelastic parameters and pH values were evaluated during gelation process and the rheological properties of CTS hydrogels produced were monitored after 24 h at 37°C to simulate human body temperatures. pH measurements suggest that above some critical urea concentration (50 mM) the time required (tgel) to reach the critical pH gelation shows no dependence on urea concentration (tgel was ca. 70 minutes). Above 50 mM of urea concentration, CTS hydrogels exhibit an elastic modulus G' higher than the viscous modulus G'' with no frequency dependence characteristic of a gel behavior. Gelation kinetics analyzed by rheology suggest that the G' (i.e., structure) development depends on urea concentration during solution neutralization.
