This paper concerns the simulation of wheelchair use for the purpose of assessment and training. Two studies on this topic are described. The first study explores the possibilities for the development of a multimedia wheelchair simulator. Four goals for application are identified and a possible simulation configuration is presented. In the second study a prototype of a joystick simulator has been developed. This device is primarily designed for young infants commencing wheelchair driving and it features specific dynamic adjustment capabilities.
Review of Rehabilitation Robotics Applications
Gelderblom G.J.,Cremers G.,Soede M. 한국과학기술원 인간친화 복지 로봇 시스템 연구센터 2003 International Journal of Assistive Robotics and Me Vol.4 No.1
This paper describes a review study into the application of robotics and related technologies in the domain of rehabilitation. The study originated from the awareness that advanced technologies can be made to be of great benefit to people with severe functional limitations. However, the number of devices or systems that actually make it to the market seems limited. The review study was set out to describe and analyse the state-of-the-art. It resulted in a diverse collection of prototypes, projects and pilots. The material gathered in the review is too extensive to be presented in this paper and will be published on cd-rom.
Entropy Minimization for Groupwise Planar Shape Co-alignment and its Applications
Youngwook Kee,Lee, Han S.,Junho Yim,Cremers, Daniel,Junmo Kim IEEE 2015 IEEE signal processing letters Vol.22 No.11

We propose an information-theoretic criterion, entropy estimate, for the joint alignment of a group of shape observations drawn from an unknown shape distribution. Employing a nonparametric density estimation technique with implicit shape representation, we minimize the entropy estimate with respect to the pose parameters of similarity transformations based on gradient descent optimization for which we provide implementation details. We demonstrate the capacity of our approach in numerous experiments with an application of building a shape prior to prostate MR image segmentation.

PurposeThe aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation after resident-performed cataract surgery and to determine variables, which influence postoperative day 1 (POD1) IOP.MethodsIn all, 1111 consecutive cataract surgeries performed only by training residents between 1 July 2001 and 30 June 2006 were included. Elevated IOP was defined as ≥23 mm Hg. Surgeries were classified according to the presence of POD1-IOP elevation. Fisher's exact test and Student t-test were used to compare both groups. Multivariate analyses using generalized estimating equations were performed to investigate predictor variables associated with POD1-IOP elevation.ResultsThe average preoperative IOP was 16.0±3.2 mm Hg and the average POD1-IOP was 19.3±7.1 mm Hg, reflecting a significant increase in IOP (P<0.001, paired t-test). The incidence of POD1-IOP elevation ≥23 mm Hg was 22.0% (244/1111). Presence of glaucoma and ocular hypertension, higher preoperative IOP, and longer axial length were frequently encountered variables in the POD1-IOP elevation group (all P<0.05). Using a multivariate analysis, presence of glaucoma (P=0.004, OR=2.38; 95% confidence interval (95% CI)=1.31–4.30), presence of ocular hypertension (P=0.003, OR=6.09; 95% CI=1.81–20.47), higher preoperative IOP (P<0.001, OR=3.73; 95% CI=1.92–7.25), and longer axial length (P=0.01, OR=1.15; 95% CI=1.03–1.29) were significant predictive factors for POD1-IOP elevation.ConclusionsIOP elevation on the first postoperative day following resident-performed cataract surgery occurred frequently (22.0%). Increased early postoperative IOP was associated with presence of glaucoma and ocular hypertension, higher preoperative IOP, and longer axial length.

Recently, the Fusarium genus has been narrowed based upon phylogenetic analyses and a Fusarium-like clade was adopted. The few species of the Fusarium-like clade were moved to new, re-installed or existing genera or provisionally retained as “Fusarium.” Only a limited number of reference strains and DNA marker sequences are available for this clade and not much is known about its actual species diversity. Here, we report six strains, preserved by the Belgian fungal culture collection BCCM/ IHEM as a Fusarium species, that belong to the Fusarium-like clade. They showed a slow growth and produced pionnotes, typical morphological characteristics of many Fusarium-like species. Multilocus sequencing with comparative sequence analyses in GenBank and phylogenetic analyses, using reference sequences of type material, confirmed that they were indeed member of the Fusarium-like clade. One strain was identified as “Fusarium” ciliatum whereas another strain was identified as Fusicolla merismoides. The four remaining strains were shown to represent a unique phylogenetic lineage in the Fusarium-like clade and were also found morphologically distinct from other members of the Fusarium-like clade. Based upon phylogenetic considerations, a new genus, Pseudofusicolla gen. nov., and a new species, Pseudofusicolla belgica sp. nov., were installed for this lineage. A formal description is provided in this study. Additional sampling will be required to gather isolates other than the historical strains presented in the present study as well as to further reveal the actual species diversity in the Fusarium-like clade.
음악에서의 보컬 신호 인식을 위한 트레이닝 데이터 자동주석기법 연구
이교구(Kyogu Lee),Markus Cremer 한국전자음악협회 2009 에밀레 Vol.- No.7
We present a novel approach to labeling a large amount of training data for vocal/non-vocal discrimination in musical audio with the minimum amount of human labor. To this end, we use MIDI files for which vocal lines are encoded on a separate channel and synthesize them to create audio files. We then align synthesized audio with real recordings using dynamic time warping(DTW) algorithm. Note onset/offset information encoded in vocal lines in MIDI files provides precise vocal/non-vocal boundaries and we obtain from the minimum-cost alignment path the corresponding boundaries in actual recordings. This near labor-free labeling process allows us to acquire a large training data set, and the experiments show promising results when tested on an independent test set, using hidden Markov models as a classifier. We also demonstrate that the data generated by the proposed system is good data by showing that the overall performance increases with more training data.
