MR Imaging of Pregnancy Luteoma: a Case Report and Correlation with the Clinical Features

        Hung-Wen Kao,Ching-Jiunn Wu,Kuo-Teng Chung,Sheng-Ru Wang,Cheng-Yu Chen 대한영상의학회 2005 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.6 No.1

We report here on a 26-year-old pregnant female who developed hirsutism and virilization during her third trimester along with a significantly elevated serum testosterone level. Abdominal US and MR imaging studies were performed, and they showed unique imaging features that may suggest the diagnosis of pregnancy luteoma in the clinical context. After the delivery, the serum testosterone level continued to decrease, and it returned to normal three weeks postpartum. The follow-up imaging findings were closely correlated with the clinical presentation.

QCD Topological Susceptibility from the Nonlocal Chiral Quark Model

남승일,Chung-Wen Kao 한국물리학회 2017 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.70 No.12

We investigate the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) topological susceptibility by using the semi-bosonized nonlocal chiral-quark model (SB-NLQM) for the leading large-Nc contributions. This model is based on the liquid-instanton QCD-vacuum configuration, in which SU(3) flavor symmetry is explicitly broken by the finite current-quark mass (mu,d,ms) (5, 135) MeV. To compute , we derive the local topological charge-density operator Qt(x) from the effective action of SB-NLQM. We verify that the derived expression for in our model satisfies the Witten- Veneziano (WV) and the Leutwyler-Smilga (LS) formulae, and the Crewther theorem in the chiral limit by construction. Once the average instanton size and the inter-instanton distance are fixed with ¯ = 1/3 fm and ¯R = 1 fm, respectively, all the other parameters are determined self-consistently within the model. We obtain = (167.67MeV)4, which is comparable with the empirical value = (175±5MeV)4 whereas it turns out that QL = (194.30MeV)4 in the quenched limit. Thus, we conclude that the value of will be reduced around 10 20% by the dynamical-quark contribution.

Self-care Experiences of Adolescents with Spinal Muscular Atrophy

        Bao-Huan Yang,Chia-Ying Chung,Wen-Chin Weng,Kao-Wen Lo,Yuh-Shiow Li 한국간호과학회 2021 Asian Nursing Research Vol.15 No.4

Purpose: We examined the self-care experiences of adolescents with spinal muscle atrophy (SMA) and their perceptions of the interactions between their body and the environment. Methods: We interviewed ten adolescents with SMA aged 13-18 years regarding personal care practices. Purposive sampling was conducted in two medical centers in northern Taiwan. Data were analyzed using the Giorgi analysis method. Results: Four constitutions were identified: (1) limited space for independent development, (2) multiple reconstructions of self-image to improve physical ability, (3) self-care of disease, and (4) developing activity styles to accommodate social culture. Conclusion: The self-care lived experiences of patients reflect dynamic changes in the body and environment. Self-existence was exhibited by adjustment, practice, and creativity of physical activity to integrate into society. Nursing staff should understand the self-care experiences and needs of adolescents with SMA to develop a database of self-care skills. This study recommended that nursing staff improve their ability to guide patients in taking care of themselves by developing body awareness self-care courses and individual care plans in response to various stages of disability to help patients delay deterioration, realize their physical potential, and promote independence and social development.

Consistency check of charged hadron multiplicities and fragmentation functions in SIDIS

        Yang, Dong-Jing,Jiang, Fu-Jiun,Chang, Wen-Chen,Kao, Chung-Wen,Nam, Seung-il North-Holland Pub. Co 2016 Physics letters. Section B Vol.755 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We derived the conditions on certain combinations of integrals of the fragmentation functions of pion using HERMES data for the sum of the charged pion multiplicities from semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) off the deuteron target. In our derivation the nucleon parton distribution functions (PDFs) are assumed to be isospin SU(2) symmetric. Similar conditions have also been obtained for the fragmentation functions (FFs) of kaon by the sum of charged kaon multiplicities as well. We have chosen several FFs to study the impact of those conditions we have derived. Among those FFs, we find that the fragmentation functions produced by the nonlocal chiral-quark model (NL<I>χ</I>QM) constantly satisfy the conditions. Furthermore, the ratios of the strange PDFs S ( x , Q 2 ) and the non-strange PDFs Q ( x , Q 2 ) extracted from the charged pion and kaon multiplicities differ from each other significantly. Finally, we demonstrate that the HERMES pion multiplicity data are unlikely to be compatible with two widely-used PDFs, namely CTEQ6L and leading order NNPDF3.0.</P>

Diffusion Tensor-Derived Properties of Benign Oligemia, True “at Risk” Penumbra, and Infarct Core during the First Three Hours of Stroke Onset: A Rat Model

        Fang-Ying Chiu,Duen-Pang Kuo,Yung-Chieh Chen,Yu-Chieh Kao,Hsiao-Wen Chung,Cheng-Yu Chen 대한영상의학회 2018 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.19 No.6

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate diffusion tensor (DT) imaging-derived properties of benign oligemia, true “at risk” penumbra (TP), and the infarct core (IC) during the first 3 hours of stroke onset. Materials and Methods: The study was approved by the local animal care and use committee. DT imaging data were obtained from 14 rats after permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (pMCAO) using a 7T magnetic resonance scanner (Bruker) in room air. Relative cerebral blood flow and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps were generated to define oligemia, TP, IC, and normal tissue (NT) every 30 minutes up to 3 hours. Relative fractional anisotropy (rFA), pure anisotropy (rq), diffusion magnitude (rL), ADC (rADC), axial diffusivity (rAD), and radial diffusivity (rRD) values were derived by comparison with the contralateral normal brain. Results: The mean volume of oligemia was 24.7 ± 14.1 mm3, that of TP was 81.3 ± 62.6 mm3, and that of IC was 123.0 ± 85.2 mm3 at 30 minutes after pMCAO. rFA showed an initial paradoxical 10% increase in IC and TP, and declined afterward. The rq, rL, rADC, rAD, and rRD showed an initial discrepant decrease in IC (from -24% to -36%) as compared with TP (from -7% to -13%). Significant differences (p < 0.05) in metrics, except rFA, were found between tissue subtypes in the first 2.5 hours. The rq demonstrated the best overall performance in discriminating TP from IC (accuracy = 92.6%, area under curve = 0.93) and the optimal cutoff value was -33.90%. The metric values for oligemia and NT remained similar at all time points. Conclusion: Benign oligemia is small and remains microstructurally normal under pMCAO. TP and IC show a distinct evolution of DT-derived properties within the first 3 hours of stroke onset, and are thus potentially useful in predicting the fate of ischemic brain.
