Site Preference for Fe in Zn-Doped Y-Type Barium Hexaferrite

<P>Polycrystalline Ba<SUB>2</SUB>Zn<SUB>x</SUB>Co<SUB>2-x</SUB>Fe<SUB>12</SUB>O<SUB>22</SUB> samples were prepared by solid state reaction method. The crystallographic structure and magnetic properties of the Zn-doped Y-type hexaferrite samples were investigated by X-ray diffraction, magnetization, and Mössbauer spectroscopy measurements. The crystal structure was found to be hexagonal with space group of <I>R</I>-3/<I>m</I>. The lattice constants of the samples increased as Zn contents increase. From the temperature dependence of magnetization, measured from 50 to 700 K, the magnetic transition temperature (<I>T</I><SUB>S</SUB>,<I>T</I><SUB>C</SUB>) of Ba<SUB>2</SUB>Zn<SUB>x</SUB>Co<SUB>2-x</SUB>Fe<SUB>12</SUB>O<SUB>22</SUB> decreased with increasing Zn concentration. Mössbauer spectra of Ba<SUB>2</SUB>Zn<SUB>x</SUB>Co<SUB>2-x</SUB>Fe<SUB>12</SUB>O<SUB>22</SUB>(x=0,1) were obtained at various temperature ranging from 4.2 to 300 K. Based on the observed spectra, the site occupancies in six interstitial sites of Co, Zn and Fe ions were calculated from the average of the relative sub-spectra absorption areas. Increasing Zn contents, the Debye temperature of the samples decreased. The isomer shift values of the samples at various temperatures were 0.1 <; δ <; 0.45mm/s, relative to the Fe metal, which were consistent with the Fe<SUP>3+</SUP> valance state.</P>
A Study on the Magnetic Properties of Al-Doped Sulphur Spinel

<P>FeCr<SUB>2-x</SUB>Al<SUB>x</SUB>S<SUB>4</SUB> ( x=0.1, 0.3, and 0.5) samples were prepared by solid state reaction method. The crystallographic structure and magnetic properties of the fabricated compounds were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer, and Mo¿ssbauer spectroscopy. The crystal structure is determined to be a cubic spinel with the space group of Fd-3m and the lattice constants <I>a</I> <SUB>0</SUB>= 9.998, 10.004, and 10.010 A¿ , respectively. The temperature dependence of magnetization, measured from 5 to 300 K, suggests that FeCr<SUB>2-x</SUB>Al<SUB>x</SUB>S<SUB>4</SUB> (x=0.1, 0.3, and 0.5) samples show ferrimagnetic behavior. The decrease of Ne¿el temperature compared with FeCr<SUB>2</SUB>S<SUB>4</SUB> could be interpreted by weakening of the exchange interaction by substitution of nonmagnetic Al ions. Mo¿ssbauer spectra of FeCr<SUB>2-x</SUB>Al<SUB>x</SUB>S<SUB>4</SUB> ( x= 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5) were obtained at various temperatures ranging from 4.2 to 300 K. Isomer shift values of the samples at various temperatures for FeCr<SUB>2-x</SUB>Al<SUB>x</SUB>S<SUB>4</SUB> (x=0.1 , 0.3, and 0.5) were 0.50 ¿ ¿ ¿ 0.73 mm/s, relative to the Fe metal, which are consistent with the Fe<SUP>2+</SUP> valence state.</P>

Clinical trials of Thiabendazole(HK-8642) suspension upon 62 cases included 37 ascaris infestations, 34 trichiural infestations, 23 hook worm. infestations and 6 Trichostrongylus orientalis infestations were reported, and they were medicated with Thiabendazole approximately 50 mg/kg body weight. 1. 56.8% negative conversion rate among ascaris infestations, 11.4% among trichiural infestations, 26.1% among hook worm cases and 66.7% of 'T. orientalis cases were observed at 10 days after the medication of Thiabendazole respectively. 2. The reduction rates of E.P.G. (egg per gram) were 84.4% in ascaris cases, 34.4 in trichiural cases, 31.5% in hook worm cases and 73. 3% in T. orientalis cases. 3. The side effects were observed 33 cases(84.6%)out of 39 cases and the main symptoms were dizzeness(51%), nausea(41%) headache(41%), fever(24%), and vomiting(21%) No abnormal :laboratory findings in hematology, in blood chemistry and in urinalysis among 5 cases who were medicated.
Magnetic properties of the ferrimagnetic FeCr2−xMxS4 (M=In,Al)

<P>The polycrystalline samples of ferrimagnetic FeCr2-xMxS4 (M=In,Al; x=0.1, 0.3) have been studied with x-ray diffraction, magnetization, and Mossbauer spectroscopy measurements. The crystal structure was found to be cubic spinel with Fd-3m space group. The lattice constants (a(0)) of the samples were linearly increased with Al and In concentration. Mossbauer spectra of FeCr2-xMxS4 (M=In,Al; x=0.1, 0.3) were obtained at various temperatures ranging from 4.2 to 300 K. Magnetic hyperfine field and electric quadrupole interactions for FeCr2-xMxS4 (M=In,Al; x=0.1) at 4.2 K have been fitted, yielding the following results: for M=Al, H-hf = 139 kOe, Delta E-Q=2.54 mm/s, theta=30 degrees, phi=0.0 degrees, eta=0.9, and R=2.7; and for M=In, H-hf=126 kOe, Delta E-Q=2.64 mm/s, theta=30 degrees, phi=0.0 degrees, eta=1.0, and R=3.1. The isomer shift (delta) value of the FeCr2-xMxS4 (x=0.1) samples for both M=Al and In at 300 K was 0.50 mm/s, relative to the Fe metal, which is consistent with the Fe2+ valence state. The Debye temperatures (Theta(D)) of the FeCr2-xAlxS4 (x=0.1,0.3) sample were determined to be 299 +/- 5 and 247 +/- 5 K, respectively, and those of the FeCr2-xInxS4 (x=0.1, 0.3) samples were determined to be 257 +/- 5 and 239 +/- 5 K, respectively. Aims: Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a distinct syndrome characterized by acute deterioration of chronic liver disease, organ failure, and short-term mortality. Severe alcoholic hepatitis (SAH) is a serious complication of alcoholic liver disease and is often complicated by ACLF. This study aimed to investigate ACLF presentation and its impact on mortality in patients with SAH. Methods: A total of 226 patients with a SAH were selected from prospective Korean ACLF data. Inclusion criteria for SAH were as follows; active alcoholism, serum total bilirubin ≥5 mg/dl, aspartate aminiotransferase >50 IU/L, aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase ratio >1.5, PT <50%, and a Maddrey discriminant function (mDF) ≥32. Results: Mean mDF was 66.1±34.1 and mean model for end-stage liver disease score was 26.0±6.1. Sixty-eight patients (30.1%) satisfied ACLF criteria at presentation. The 28- and 90-day mortalities were 14% and 24%, respectively. The number of patients with ACLF grade 1, 2, and 3 were 14 (6.2%), 37 (16.4%), and 17 (7.5%), respectively. The 28-day mortalities for patients with and without ACLF at baseline were 27% and 8%, respectively, P<0.0001. The 28-day mortalities for patients with ACLF grade 1, 2, and 3 were 15%, 20%, and 48%, respectively, P<0.0001. Conclusions: ACLF was often accompanied in patients with SAH. The presence and grade of ACLF at initial presentation significantly increased short-term mortality.

This study analyzed various data on the previously reported PEMF treatment for osseous and soft tissue. As a result, in order to apply it to auditory portion, magnetic pulses with the frequency of 10 to 100 Hz and strength of 0.2 to 4.0 mT are applied to inner ear tissues including the cochlear duct, but induced voltage and eddy in the tissue should be a rectangular wave including harmonics with a DC. In order to realize this, this study aims to suggest that it is randomly applied to diseases according to symptoms by preparing multiple pulse sequences. Based on these results, this study designed and produced two types, headset and earphone types, as a typical PEMF applicator, and then measured the magnetic field distribution. The results showed that magnetic field with sufficient strength for treatment was distributed throughout inner ear tissues including auditory center of cochlear duct.
