Impact of land-use change on ecosystem service values and their effects under different intervention scenarios in Fuzhou City, China

        Xisheng Hu,Chengzhen Wu,Wei Hong,Rongzu Qiu,Xinhua Qi 한국지질과학협의회 2013 Geosciences Journal Vol.17 No.4

In this paper, substitution cost methods and prevention cost methods were used to estimate the influence of construction land on the ecosystem service value (ESV). Then, the total ESV was adjusted by the influence. The results showed that the ESV of Fuzhou City dropped from 105, 061.53 million Yuan in 1986 to 103, 916.53 million Yuan in 2006, mainly due to the degradation of cropland and water body and the increase of construction land. Water supply and waste treatment were the two largest ecosystem services, contributing approximately 35% of the total ecosystem service in both years. On the basis of land-use transition matrix, the compartment theory was applied to simulating landuse spatial pattern dynamics under different artificial intervention scenarios. The results showed that if we maintain or increase the existing intensity of interference, the total ESV of Fuzhou City will decrease by 58.13 million Yuan per year or 122.99 million Yuan per year, respectively; if we reduce the existing intensity of interference, the total ESV will increase by 52.38 million Yuan per year. In addition, the total ESV will decrease by 4.84 million Yuan for each 10% increase in the speed of the urbanisation process. We can conclude that the disordered expansion of construction lands and imbalance of ecological lands are main problems impeding the harmonious urban development. Given the similar social environment across the Chinese mainland, the findings from our study have important implications for the sustainable development of other rising cities in China and beyond.

Effects of Lactobacillus salivarius Ren on cancer prevention and intestinal microbiota in 1, 2-dimethylhydrazine-induced rat model

        Ming Zhang,Xing Fan,Bing Fang,Chengzhen Zhu,Jun Zhu,Fazheng Ren 한국미생물학회 2015 The journal of microbiology Vol.53 No.6

Probiotics have been suggested as a prophylactic measure in colon cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of Lactobacillus salivarius Ren (Ren) in modulating colonic microbiota structure and colon cancer incidence in a rat model after injection with 1,2-dimethyl hydrazine (DMH). The results indicated that oral administration of Ren could effectively suppress DMH-induced colonic carcinogenesis. A significant decrease in cancer incidence (87.5% to 25%) was detected in rats fed with a dose of 5 × 1010 CFU/kg bodyweight per day. Using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis and Real-time PCR combined with multivariate statistical methods, we demonstrated that injection with DMH significantly altered the rat gut microbiota, while Ren counteracted these DMH-induced adverse effects and promoted reversion of the gut microbiota close to the healthy state. Tvalue biplots followed by band sequencing identified 21 bacterial strains as critical variables affected by DMH and Ren. Injection of DMH significantly increased the amount of Ruminococcus species (sp.) and Clostridiales bacteria, as well as decreasing the Prevotella sp. Administration of Ren reduced the amount of Ruminococcus sp., Clostridiales bacteria, and Bacteroides dorei, and increased the amount of Prevotella. Real-time PCR results were consistent with the results derived by t-value biplots. These findings suggested that Ren is a potential agent for colon cancer prevention. In conclusion, the results in the present study suggest a potential therapeutic approach based on the modulation of intestinal microflora by probiotics may be beneficial in the prevention of colorectal carcinogenesis.

        State-of-charge Estimation for Lithium-ion Batteries Using a Multi-state Closed-loop Observer

Zhao, Yulan,Yun, Haitao,Liu, Shude,Jiao, Huirong,Wang, Chengzhen The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2014 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.14 No.5

Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in hybrid and pure electric vehicles. State-of-charge (SOC) estimation is a fundamental issue in vehicle power train control and battery management systems. This study proposes a novel model-based SOC estimation method that applies closed-loop state observer theory and a comprehensive battery model. The state-space model of lithium-ion battery is developed based on a three-order resistor-capacitor equivalent circuit model. The least square algorithm is used to identify model parameters. A multi-state closed-loop state observer is designed to predict the open-circuit voltage (OCV) of a battery based on the battery state-space model. Battery SOC can then be estimated based on the corresponding relationship between battery OCV and SOC. Finally, practical driving tests that use two types of typical driving cycle are performed to verify the proposed SOC estimation method. Test results prove that the proposed estimation method is reasonably accurate and exhibits accuracy in estimating SOC within 2% under different driving cycles.

L-arginine and N-carbamoylglutamic acid supplementation enhance young rabbit growth and immunity by regulating intestinal microbial community

        Sun, Xiaoming,Shen, Jinglin,Liu, Chang,Li, Sheng,Peng, Yanxia,Chen, Chengzhen,Yuan, Bao,Gao, Yan,Meng, Xianmei,Jiang, Hao,Zhang, Jiabao Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2020 Animal Bioscience Vol.33 No.1

Objective: An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of L-arginine (L-Arg) and N-carbamoylglutamic acid (NCG) on the growth, metabolism, immunity and community of cecal bacterial flora of weanling and young rabbits. Methods: Eighteen normal-grade male weanling Japanese White rabbits (JWR) were selected and randomly divided into 6 groups with or without L-Arg and NCG supplementation. The whole feeding process was divided into weanling stage (day 37 to 65) and young stage (day 66 to 85). The effects of L-Arg and NCG on the growth, metabolism, immunity and development of the ileum and jejunum were compared via nutrient metabolism experiments and histological assessment. The different communities of cecal bacterial flora affected by L-Arg and NCG were assessed using high-throughput sequencing technology and bioinformatics analysis. Results: The addition of L-Arg and NCG enhanced the growth of weanling and young rabbit by increasing the nitrogen metabolism, protein efficiency ratio, and biological value, as well as feed intake and daily weight gain. Both L-Arg and NCG increased the concentration of immunoglobulin A (IgA), IgM, and IgG. NCG was superior to L-Arg in promoting intestinal villus development by increasing villus height, villus height/crypt depth index, and reducing the crypt depth. The effects of L-Arg and NCG on the cecal bacterial flora were mainly concentrated in different genera, including Parabacteroides, Roseburia, dgA-11_gut_group, Alistipes, Bacteroides, and Ruminococcaceae_UCG-005. These bacteria function mainly in amino acid transport and metabolism, energy production and conversion, lipid transport and metabolism, recombination and repair, cell cycle control, cell division, and cell motility. Conclusion: L-Arg and NCG can promote the growth and immunity of weanling and young JWR, as well as effecting the jejunum and ileum villi. L-Arg and NCG have different effects in the promotion of nutrient utilization, relieving inflammation and enhancing adaptability through regulating microbial community.

Experimental study of TiO2 hollow microspheres removal on elemental mercury in simulated flue gas

        Jiang Wu,Xian Li,Jian-Xing Ren,Xuemei Qi,Ping He,Bu Ni,Chong Zhang,Chengzhen Hu,Jun Zhou 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.32 No.-

TiO2 hollow sphere was synthesized by hydrothermal method using trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) andTi(SO4)2 as raw materials, and it was applied to photocatalytic oxidization of elemental mercury (Hg0) inthe simulated flue gas. The prepared samples were well characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD),scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectronspectroscopy (XPS), UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-vis DRS) and nitrogen adsorption/desorption. The results showed that only anatase phase TiO2 hollow sphere was obtained. The average diameter ofTiO2 hollow spheres was about 800 nm and the shell thickness was about 200–400 nm. When M, themolar ratio of TFA to Ti(SO4)2, was higher than a certain value, the photocatalytic activity of preparedTiO2 hollow spheres began to reduce. When M = 2, addition TFA content was the best quantity, which gotthe best TiO2 hollow spheres and provided the most appropriate F decomposed from TFA during thesample preparation, which was helpful to its photocatalytic ability. In the experimental temperaturerange, the photocatalytic oxidation efficiency decreased with the increasing of reaction temperature, andthe intensity of UV irradiation had an important effect on the photocatalytic reaction. When UVirradiation intensity was 303.45 mW cm 2 and reaction temperature was 55 8C, TiO2 hollow spheresample prepared at M = 2 had the highest photocatalytic ability and the mercury removal efficiencyreached up to 82.75%.
