        The purpose of the study was to undertaken to analysis the Grab starting technique between national representive team(3) and Cheju's representive team(3) with 3D cinematography. The conclusions obtained were as follows: Cheju's showed more elapsed time than national representive team on starting block. and more vertical than horizontal direction of COG position, more concentrated vertical velocity & acceleration than forward direction. Therefore It is necessory for cheju's to train balanced trust force in horizontal and vertical direction in grab starting technique.

        As a result of research by the Western academic circles, Asia``s modernity began to be understood as part of a long-term process initiated from the modern times. Especially since the 1990s, there have been efforts to reform ``World system theory`` - with strong Euro-centric view of history - into ``World history`` assigning an appropriate position to Asia. And this considerably affected China``s research on maritime history. However, of special note here is the fact that in case of the Chinese academic circles, research approach with nationalistic point of view was overwhelming at least quantitatively. Given the reality in which maritime history-related research state of the Chinese academic circles is not properly known to our country, this study introduces a summary of the modern maritime history, divided into history of the shipping, history of the fishing industry, history of maritime defence, history of the navy, history of maritime border and history of maritime rights. The fact that the Chinese academic circles have pursued a new framework mainly through marine-related universities and research institutes by seeking to convert from history of the coast to maritime history or emphasizing research on maritime culture must be affected by the overseas academic circles but the overall research still shows considerable tints of nationalism. Indeed, how the Chinese government pursued an ocean power on world stage away from focus on the continent, was well illustrated by the message of a documentary Toward the Ocean. At this particular moment when conflicts between each country in Northeast Asia are heightened, research on maritime history needs a balance neither sticking only to each country``s own interests, nor to Euro-centric view of history and East Asia centric view of history, from a cooler point of view.

        밀누룩 발효기간 동안 효소와 대사체 변화에 대한 온도의 영향

        누룩은 전통주를 빚기 위한 발효제이다. 본 연구의 목적은 누룩 발효시 온도의 영향을 알아보기 위한 것이다. 누룩 발효는 36oC에서 30일간 발효한 처리구(TN-A)와 45oC에서 10일간 전발효 후, 36oC에서 20일간 후 발효시킨 처리구(TN-B)로 실험하였다. 누룩 발효시 온도에 따른 α-amylase, glucoamylase, acidic protease 등 효소활성과 누룩의 대사산물을 측정하였다. 초기 효소활성은 온도에 상관없이 급격하게 증가하였고 발효 3일 후, TN-A 누룩의 효소활성은 일정하게 유지됐으나 TN-B 누룩은 발효기간이 끝나는 동안 점진적으로 이들 활성이 감소하였다. 1H-MNR을 이용한 대사체 분석결과, TN-A 누룩은 glucose, glycerol, fructose, mannitol, lactose가 초기에 급격히 증가한 후 감소하였으나, TN-B 누룩은 초기에 대사체들이 감소한 후, 발효기간 동안 일정하게 유지되었다. Glycine, proline, serine 유리아미노산은 TN-B보다 TN-A 누룩에서 보다 높게 나타났다. 밀누룩 발효시 약 36oC의 일정한 온도는 전분 및 단백질분해 효소의 높은 활성을 유지하는데 적절하였다. Nuruk is a fermentation agent, which has been used for the production of traditional Korean alcoholic beverages. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of temperature on nuruk fermentation. One wheat nuruk sample was fermented at 36°C for 30 days (TN-A) and another at 45°C for 10 days followed by 36°C for 20 days (TN-B). The activities of α-amylase, glucoamylase, and acidic protease, as well as metabolite contents were measured. Initially, the enzymatic activities increased rapidly regardless of the fermentation temperature. After 3 days of fermentation, the enzymatic activities were maintained in TN-A, but gradually decreased in TN-B until the end of fermentation process. Metabolite analysis using 1H-NMR showed that the levels of glucose, glycerol, fructose, mannitol, and lactose initially increased quickly and then decreased in TN-A. However, they initially decreased and then were maintained over the fermentation period in TN-B. The contents of glycine, proline, and serine were higher in TN-A than in TN-B. This study suggests that a constant temperature of approximately 36°C is appropriate for achieving high amylolytic and proteolytic activities in the production of wheat nuruk.

      • <i>Brevibacterium</i> <i>jeotgali</i> sp. nov., isolated from jeotgal, a traditional Korean fermented seafood

        <P>A Gram-staining-positive, aerobic, non-motile bacterium, designated strain SJ5-8<SUP>T</SUP>, was isolated from <I>seau-jeot</I> (shrimp jeotgal), a traditional fermented seafood in South Korea. Cells were non-spore-forming rods showing catalase- and oxidase-positive reactions. Growth of strain SJ5-8<SUP>T</SUP> was observed at 10–37 °C (optimum, 30 °C), at pH 6.0–9.0 (optimum, pH 7.5–8.5) and in the presence of 0–14 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 5 %). Phylogenetic inference based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the strain formed a tight phyletic lineage with members of the genus <I>Brevibacterium</I><I>.</I> Strain SJ5-8<SUP>T</SUP> was most closely related to <I>Brevibacterium yomogidense</I> MN-6-a<SUP>T</SUP>, <I>Brevibacterium daeguense</I> 2C6-41<SUP>T</SUP> and <I>Brevibacterium salitolerans</I> TRM 415<SUP>T</SUP> with similarities of 98.9, 97.5 and 97.4 %, respectively. The DNA–DNA relatedness values between strain SJ5-8<SUP>T</SUP> and the type strains of <I>B. yomogidense</I>, <I>B. daeguense</I> and <I>B. salitolerans</I> were 51.7±1.9 %, 22.2±4.0 % and 52.4±3.8 %, respectively. Chemotaxonomic data (major sole isoprenoid quinone, MK-8(H<SUB>2</SUB>); major diagnostic diamino acid, <I>meso</I>-diaminopimelic acid; major polyamines, putrescine and cadaverine; major cellular fatty acids, anteiso-C<SUB>15:0</SUB>, iso-C<SUB>15:0</SUB> and anteiso-C<SUB>17:0</SUB>; major polar lipids, phosphatidylglycerol and diphosphatidylglycerol; DNA G+C content, 69.3 mol%) also supported the affiliation of strain SJ5-8<SUP>T</SUP> to the genus <I>Brevibacterium</I>. Therefore, strain SJ5-8<SUP>T</SUP> represents a novel species of the genus <I>Brevibacterium</I>, for which the name <I>Brevibacterium</I> <I>jeotgali</I> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SJ5-8<SUP>T</SUP> ( = KACC 16911<SUP>T</SUP> = JCM 18571<SUP>T</SUP>).</P>

      • <i>Ramlibacter solisilvae</i> sp. nov., isolated from forest soil, and emended description of the genus Ramlibacter

        <P>A Gram-staining-negative, strictly aerobic, white-colony-forming bacterium, designated strain 5-10<SUP>T</SUP>, was isolated from forest soil of Bac Kan Province in Vietnam. Cells were non-motile rods or coccoids, showing oxidase- and catalase-positive reactions. Growth was observed at 10–37 °C (optimum, 30 °C), at pH 5.0–9.0 (optimum, pH 7.0) and in the presence of 0–1.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 0–0.5 %). The major cellular fatty acids were summed feature 3 (comprising C<SUB>16 : 1</SUB>ω6<I>c</I> and/or C<SUB>16 : 1</SUB>ω7<I>c</I>), C<SUB>16 : 0</SUB>, C<SUB>10 : 0</SUB> 3-OH and summed feature 8 (comprising C<SUB>18 : 1</SUB>ω6<I>c</I> and/or C<SUB>18 : 1</SUB>ω7<I>c</I>). The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 69.9 mol% and the only respiratory quinone detected was ubiquinone 8 (Q-8). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain 5-10<SUP>T</SUP> formed a tight phyletic lineage with members of the genus <I>Ramlibacter</I>. Strain 5-10<SUP>T</SUP> was most closely related to <I>Ramlibacter tataouinensis</I> TTB310<SUP>T</SUP> (97.3 %), but the DNA–DNA relatedness level between the two strains was 38.2±1.8 %. Based on phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and molecular features, strain 5-10<SUP>T</SUP> was shown to represent a novel species of the genus <I>Ramlibacter</I>, for which the name <I>Ramlibacter solisilvae</I> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 5-10<SUP>T</SUP> ( = KACC 17567<SUP>T</SUP> = JCM 19319<SUP>T</SUP>). An emended description of the genus <I>Ramlibacter</I> is also proposed.</P>

        <P>A Gram-stain positive, aerobic and moderately halophilic bacterium, designated strain SL-MJ1(T), was isolated from myeolchi-aekjeot, a Korean traditionally fermented anchovy sauce. Cells were observed to be non-spore-forming rods showing oxidase-negative and catalase-positive reactions. Growth of strain SL-MJ1(T) was observed at 15-40 A degrees C (optimum, 30 A degrees C) and pH 6.5-8.0 (optimum, pH 7.0) and in the presence of 0-20 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 6 %). Chemotaxonomic data (major isoprenoid quinone: menaquinone-7; DNA G + C content: 42.8 mol%; cell wall type: meso-diaminopimelic acid; major fatty acids: anteiso-C-15:0, anteiso-C-17:0 and iso-C-16:0) support the affiliation of the isolate to the genus Lentibacillus. Phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol and an unidentified phospholipid were identified as the major cellular polar lipids. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain SL-MJ1(T) is most closely related to Lentibacillus juripiscarius IS40-3(T) with a 95.3 % similarity. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences also support the conclusion that strain SL-MJ1(T) forms a phylogenetic lineage with members of the genus Lentibacillus within the family Bacillaceae. Given its phylogenetic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic features, we conclude that strain SL-MJ1(T) represents a novel species of the genus Lentibacillus, for which the name Lentibacillus garicola sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SL-MJ1(T) (=KACC 18130(T) = JCM 30131(T)).</P>
