Granular Cell Tumor of The Inferior Rectus Muscle

( Ceren Erdogan Poyraz ),( Hayyam Kiratli ),( Figen Soylemezoglu ) 대한안과학회 2009 Korean Journal of Ophthalmology Vol.23 No.1

A 53-year-old woman complaining of vertical diplopia, presented with a localized swelling in the right lower lid. Magnetic resonance imaging studies demonstrated a relatively well-defined mass in the inferior rectus with similar signal characteristics to the muscle. Excisional biopsy of the mass revealed granular cell tumor composed of S-100 positive cells with acidophilic granular cytoplasm and a peripheral lymphocytic infiltration. Granular cell tumor, which is very rare in the orbit, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of tumors adjacent to or within the extraocular muscles, particularly in the inferior orbit. The influence of process parameters on the optical properties of seashell-added ceramic glazes, evaluated using a factorial design

Ceren Peksen 한양대학교 청정에너지연구소 2023 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.24 No.6

The present study aims to evaluate the impact of process factors on the optical characteristics of seashell-added glazes usinga 23 factorial design. Seashells collected from the Black Sea beaches of Samsun, Turkey, were calcined for 1 hour at 700 °C. XRD and XRF analysis were used to perform chemical characterization of seashell powder. Seashell powders were added tocommercial transparent glaze compositions dipped onto the surface of sintered ceramic bodies such as white and porcelainmud. The glazed ceramic bodies were sintered for 8 hours at 1000 °C and 1100 °C. The spectrophotometer determined thecoloring parameters and gloss values of seashell-added glazes. The effect of utilizing the seashell powder on the color parametersof glazes was investigated using the experiment’s factorial design. The process factors were firing temperature, ceramicbody, and seashell powder addition ratio. The study proved that the firing temperature significantly affects the optical propertiesof glazed samples in a 23 level factorial design. The substrate and additive ratio are the main factors for gloss value, whereas firing temperature is the main controlling factor for values L*, a*, and b*. By analyzing the impact of the variablesand evaluating the color properties of ceramic glazes, the statistical approach of the factorial design was utilized to minimizetesting efforts and optimize experimental data.

Neuroprotective Effect of Resveratrol on Acute Brain Ischemia Reperfusion Injury by Measuring Annexin V, p53, Bcl-2 Levels in Rats

Kizmazoglu, Ceren,Aydin, Hasan Emre,Sevin, Ismail Ertan,Kalemci, Orhan,Yuceer, Nurullah,Atasoy, Metin Ant The Korean Neurosurgical Society 2015 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.58 No.6

Background : Cerebral ischemia is as a result of insufficient cerebral blood flow for cerebral metabolic functions. Resveratrol is a natural phytoalexin that can be extracted from grape's skin and had potent role in treating the cerebral ischemia. Apoptosis, a genetically programmed cellular event which occurs after ischemia and leads to biochemical and morphological changes in cells. There are some useful markers for apoptosis like Bcl-2, bax, and p53. The last reports, researchers verify the apoptosis with early markers like Annexin V. Methods : We preferred in this experimental study a model of global cerebral infarction which was induced by bilateral common carotid artery occlusion method. Rats were randomly divided into 4 groups : sham, ischemia-reperfusion (I/R), I/R plus 20 mg/kg resveratrol and I/R plus 40 mg/kg resveratrol. Statistical analysis was performed using Sigmastat 3.5 ve IBM SPSS Statistics 20. We considered a result significant when p<0.001. Results : After administration of resveratrol, Bcl-2 and Annexin levels were significantly increased (p<0.001). Depending on the dose of resveratrol, Bcl2 levels increased, p53 levels decreased but Annexin V did not effected. P53 levels were significantly increased in ishemia group, so apoptosis is higher compared to other groups. Conclusion : In the acute period, Annexin V levels misleading us because the apoptotic cell counts could not reach a certain level. Therefore we should support our results with bcl-2 and p53.

Epigenetic and genetic investigation of SOCS-1 gene in patients with multiple myeloma

        Fatıma Ceren Tuncel,Istemi Serin,Sacide Pehlivan,Yasemin Oyaci,Mustafa Pehlivan 대한혈액학회 2022 Blood Research Vol.57 No.4

Background The suppressor of cytokine signaling-1 (SOCS-1) functions to induce an appropriate immune response and is an essential physiological regulator of interferon signaling. DNA methylation involves adding a methyl group to the carbon 5 position of cytosine. Besides comparing SOCS-1 gene methylation status between patients with multiple myeloma (MM) and healthy controls, this study also aimed to demonstrate the effect of SOCS-1 gene distribution and the effect of methylation of SOCS-1 on progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Methods This study included 120 patients diagnosed with MM between January 2018 and 2020 and 80 healthy individuals. The distribution of the SOCS-1 genotypes was statistically compared between MM patients and healthy controls. Additionally, the statistically significant effects of these genotypes on survival were examined. Results The CA/CA genotype of SOCS-1 was significantly higher in healthy controls (P=0.001), while the Del/Del genotype was significantly higher in patients with MM (P =0.034). The percent methylated reference (PMR) value of the SOCS-1 gene was significantly higher in the healthy controls (median, 43.48; range, 2.76‒247.75; P=0.001). Patients with a PMR value of ≥43.48 were 3.125 times more likely to develop progression than those with a PMR value of <43.48. Conclusion The effects of SOCS-1 polymorphisms on the pathogenesis of MM and SOCS-1 methylation will further shed light on the pathophysiology of MM.

Simultaneous biosynthesis of reduced graphene oxide-Ag-Cu2O nanostructures by lichen extract for catalytic reduction of textile dyes

        Zafer Çıplak,Bengü Getiren,Ceren Gökalp,Ceren Atila Dinçer,Atila Yıldız,Nuray Yıldız 한국화학공학회 2020 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.37 No.12

Metal/metal oxide nanostructures based reduced graphene oxide (LrGO-Ag, LrGO-Cu2O, LrGO-Ag-Cu2O) nanocomposites were obtained via green method using Cetraria islandica (L.) Ach. lichen extract. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscope energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM–EDX), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were performed to analyze the prepared nanostructures. The results indicated that the nanocomposites were synthesized effectively and Ag-Cu2O nanoparticles with the mean diameter of 27nm were well dispersed on the LrGO. The conversion of methylene blue (MB) to Leuco Methylene Blue (LMB) and 4-Nitrophenol (4- NP) to 4-Aminophenol (4-AP) was performed by biosynthesized catalysts in the presence of NaBH4. The reaction rate of LrGO-Ag-Cu2O nanocomposite during 4-NP and MB reduction was found as 0.0026 s1 and 0.0497 s1, respectively. The LrGO-Ag-Cu2O nanocomposite showed superior catalytic performance for the reduction of both textile dyes.

Antidepressant-like Effects Induced by Chronic Blockade of the Purinergic 2X7 Receptor through Inhibition of Non-like Receptor Protein 1 Inflammasome in Chronic Unpredictable Mild Stress Model of Depression in Rats

        Feyza Aricioglu,Ceren Sahin Ozkartal,Tugce Bastaskin,Erdem Tüzün,Cansu Kandemir,Serap Sirvanci,Cem Ismail Kucukali,Tijen Utkan 대한정신약물학회 2019 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.17 No.2

Objective: Purinergic 2X7 receptor (P2X7R) activation is known to be involved in pathogenesis of depression. Our aims were to investigate P2X7R-activated inflammasome pathways in parallel with induction of depression and to test the antidepressant-like effects of the selective P2X7R antagonist Brilliant Blue G (BBG) in a rat model of chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS). Methods: Male Wistar albino rats were divided into control, CUMS, CUMS+BBG25 (25 mg/kg/day) and CUMS+BBG50 (50 mg/kg/day) groups (n=10 for each group). Various stressors were applied to rats for 6 weeks to establish the CUMS model and daily BBG treatment was started at the end of 3rd week. Sucrose preference test and forced swim test (FST) were performed to assess antidepressant-like effects. Brain samples were obtained for real-time polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry analysis. Results: In FST, duration of immobility was reduced in the CUMS+BBG50 group. Also, BBG treatment significantly enhanced sucrose preference. While NLRP3 gene expression levels were unchanged in rats exposed to the CUMS protocol, expression levels of other inflammasome pathway factors NLRP1, caspase-1, ASC, NF-B, IL-1, IL-6 and P2X7R were increased. BBG treatment reduced expression levels of these factors. Likewise, Iba-1 and GFAP immunoreactivities were enhanced by the CUMS protocol and this action was reversed by BBG treatment. Conclusion: Chronic administration of BBG in CUMS model results in antidepressant-like activity in a dose dependent manner. Molecular and histological results show that these effects might be at least partially related to the suppression of inflammasome-related neuroinflammatory responses and suggest involvement of NLRP1 in depression.

Fire resistance of hybrid fiber reinforced SCC: Effect of use of polyvinyl-alcohol or polypropylene with single and binary steel fiber

        Kazim Turk,Ceren Kina,Esma Balalan Techno-Press 2023 Advances in concrete construction Vol.16 No.1

This study presents the experimental results performed to evaluate the effects of Polyvinyl-alcohol (PVA) and Polypropylene (PP) fibers on the fresh and residual mechanical properties of the hybrid fiber reinforced SCC before and after the exposure of 250℃, 500℃ and 750℃ temperatures. The compressive and splitting tensile strength, modulus of rupture (MOR), ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) as well as toughness and weight loss were investigated at different temperatures. PVA and PP fibers were added into SCC mixtures having only macro steel fiber and also having binary hybridization of both macro and micro steel fiber. The results showed that the use of micro steel fiber replaced by macro steel fiber improved the fresh and hardened properties compared to the use of only macro steel fiber. Moreover, it was emphasized that PVA or PP enhanced the residual flexural performance of SCC, generally, while it negatively influenced the workability, weight loss, UPV and the residual strengths with regards to the use of single steel fiber and binary steel fiber hybridization. Compared to the effect of synthetic fibers, PP had slightly more positive effect in the view of workability while PVA enhanced the residual mechanical properties more.
