Background and Objectives : The overexpression of P-glycoprotein (Pgp) or multidrug resistanceassociated protein (MRP) confers multidrug resistance (MDR) to cancer cells. MDR cells could be sensitized to anticancer drugs when treated concomitantly with a chemosensitizer. In this study, orange peel have been screened for the development of chemosensitizers reversing MDR. Materials and methods : Expression of Pgp in AML-2/WT and AML-2/D100 were determined using western blot analysis and RT-PCR. Candidates for chemosensitizers were isolated, purified from orange peel using sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and silica-gel column chromatography, whose structure was determined using ^1H-NMR, ^13C-NMR, ^1H-^1H-COSY, 13C-NMR, EI-Mass, IR. Chemosensitizing effect of NP-28 on AML-2/DX100 over expressing Pgp and MRP was determined by the MTT assay. Membrane toxicity was evaluated by the RBC hemolysis test. Antioxidant effects were examined by using a fluorescence probe (2’-7’-dichlorofluorescein diacetate). Results : A potent candidate, NP-28, has a flavonoid nucleus with some methoxy moiety. NP-28 is believed to have high therapeutic index, being non-transportable inhibitor and possibly, of inhibiting other efflux pumps such as MRP and antioxidant effects. NP-28 is also unlikely to be a substrate of Pgp. NP-28 did not increase Pgp levels. Conclusion : NP-28 has a Chemosensitizing effect to reverse Pgp-mediated MDR by increasing the intracellular accumulation of drugs. Furthermore, they do not increase expression of Pgp, which can allow a long term use without the concern about Pgp activation. NP-28 is anticipated as an ideal second-generation flavonoid chemosensitizer and/or possibly other therapeutic agents by further investigation.

This study was carried out to nvestigate- the effects of T-P concentrations in irrigation water on the growth, yield, and grain quality of rice. It acquire fundamental knowledges to set up irrigation water quality standards. The pot experiment was conducted with 5 treatments using irrigation water. It consisted of various total phosphorus concentrations (control, 1, 2, 5, 10 mg/L) and replicated four times with randomized block design. the results of this study showed that as t-P concentrations in irrigation water increases, plant height tended to increase. Dry weight of rice plant at t-P 10 mg/L was significantly higher than the control. However, t-P in irrigation water did not affect plant height, tiller number, plant; dry weight, yield, and quality of rice.

Objectives : Psychotic Symptom Rating Scale (PSYRATS) is an assessment tool to measure the seventy of different dimen-sions of auditory hallucinations and delusions. The reliability and validity of the Korean version of PSYRATS (K-PSYRATS)were examined in Korean patients with major psychosis. Methods : The inter-rater reliability of the K-PSYRATS was determined from the videotaped interviews of the five Schizoph-renic patients. To measure validity and internal consistency reliability, the 109 patients with auditory hallucinations or delusions were assessed using the K-PSYRATS, Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) and Clinical Global Impression-Se-verity (CGI-S) scale. Results : K-PSYRATS was found to have excellent inter-rater reliability (intra-class correlation coefficient of auditory haliu-cination=0.81, P<.001, intm-class correlation coefficient ofde1usion=0.97, P<.001) and internal consistency reliability (Cron-bach's a of auditory hallucination =0.77, Cronbach's α of delusion =0.76). Significant correlation was found between K-PSY-RATS and positive syndrome subscale of PANSS and CGI. Conclusion : K-PSYRATS is a useful assessment instrument for psychotic symptoms in Korea.
Chemical Characteristics of Aloe Vera and Aloe Saponaria in Ulsan Korea

The Aloe saponaria plant has been known and used for centuries for its health, beauty, medicinal and skin care properties. On the other hand, Aloe saponaria also contain anti nutrition compounds namely saponin which leads negative effect. Other kind of Aloe known is Aloe vera. The aim of the study was to investigate the saponin content from each part of Aloe plant to maximize it benefits and advantages. In order to know the higher saponin content, this study was comparing between Aloe saponaria and Aloe vera. The saponin content were analyzed from five part of Aloe leaf such as tip of the leaf, middle of the leaf, bottom of the leaf, leaf skin and leaf flesh. To do this, following are done. Total saponin content was identified by extraction. The procedure was performed by modifying the four thermal processing methods by Xu and Chang, 2009. The saponin analysis shows that the skin (S) of the Aloe leaf contains highest concentration of saponin compare to the other part, on both of Aloe species leaf. Those are 1.519±0.048 mg/g for Aloe saponaria and 1.212±0.035 mg/g for Aloe vera respectively. The highest water content obtained in mesophyll tissue (IS). Up to 98% the mesophyll tissue contains with water.

In this paper, we have studied a chlorine sensor platform which is composed of a chlorine electrochemical sensor, a sensor module to process analog sensing signals, and a sensor platform for digital signal processing and transmiting sensing data. All the transmitted sensing data are able to be displayed in a computer monitor. The characteristics in the chlorine sensor module have been investigated as a function of chlorine concentration ranging from 0 to 50 ppm.

우리나라 長壽者의 生活 및 意識調査硏究의 一環으로 長壽者의 過去의 健康, 疾病 및 苦痛에 대한 對處態度 등을 調査ㆍ比較한 結果는 다음과 같다.<br/> 1. 更年期(40~60歲)의 健康狀態가 『대단히 건강했다.』가 71.0%로 가장 많고, 그 다음이 『건강이 보통이었다』가 21.6%로서, 전체 장수자의 91.6%가 보통이상의 건강상태를 유지했다.<br/> 2. 老年期에 접어든 후 疾病이나 負傷을 당한 經驗이 『없었다』고 대답한 경우가 74.7%로 대부분을 차지한 반면 『있었다』고 대답한 경우는 22.6%에 불과했다.<br/> 3. 疾病이나 負傷이 『있었다』고 한 경우의 內譯을 比較하여 보면 『消火器疾患』이 32.6%로 가장 많고, 그 다음이 『腦率中ㆍ高血壓』 14.0%, 『心臟病』 14.0%, 『呼吸器疾患』 12.8%의 순으로 되어 있었다.<br/> 4. 苦痛에 대한 經驗을 調査하여 본 結果, 苦痛이 『없었다』가 55.7%, 『있었다』가 44.3%로 거의 비슷한 傾向이었고, 苦痛에 대한 經驗內譯을 보면 『가정생활』이 85.1%로 대부분을 차지한 반면 『사업』 등은 10.1%에 불과해서 가정생활에 많은 문제가 있었음을 알 수 있었다.<br/> 5. 苦痛에 대한 對處態度롤 比較하여 보면 빨리 『잊을려고 努力했다』가 51.2%로 가장 많았고 그 다음이 『계속 걱정을 했다』(33.3%), 『걱정을 하지 않았다』(7.1%)의 순이었다.<br/> 6. 長壽한 사람들의 初經年齡은 『16~18歲』가 38.8%로 가장 많고, 그 다음이 『19歲이후』가 25.2%로서 전체 장수자의 64.0%가 16세이상에서 初經이 나타났으며, 閉經年齡은 『41~43歲』가 36.4%로 가장 많고, 그 다음이 『44~46歲』가 28.5%로서 전체 장수자의 64.9%가 46歲이하에서 閉經現象이 나타났다. 따라서 장수한 사람들의 初經年齡은 현재보다 4~5年 늦은 반면 閉經年齡은 현재보다 4~5年 빨랐음을 알 수 있었다. The present study was designed to be link a part of the research on the investigation on daily life and consciousness of the longevous people in Korea, and to investigate the health conditions, and the attitude on disease and suffering of longevous people in the past.<br/> 1. By the health conditions of longevous people between 40 and 60 years, "very good" showed the highest figure of 71.0%, followed by "ordinary" (21.6%). Consequently it is found that 92.6% of total longevous people surveyed maintained the good health conditions above ordinary.<br/> 2. Of the experiences of disease and/or injury after 60 years of longevous people, "never" showed the highest figure of 74.7%, while "had" showed the only 22.6% of total longevous people surveyed.<br/> 3. Of the details of disease and/or injury after 60 years of longevous people, "digestive disease" showed the highest figure of 32.6 %, followed by "apoplexia cerebri & hypertensions" (14.0%) and "heart disease" (14.0%), and followed by "respiratory disease" (12.8%).<br/> 4. Of the experiences of suffering between 40 and 60 years of longevous people, "never" showed 55.7% of total longevous people surveyed, while the frequency of suffering decreased in the order of "once" (22.7%), "2 times" (15.8%) and "3 times" (4.7%). By the details of suffering between 40 and 60 years of longevous people, "family life" showed the highest figure of 85.1%. followed by "business" (10.1%).<br/> 5. By the attitude on suffering of longevous people, "tried to forget soon" showed the highest figure of 51.2%, followed by "continuous worried" (33.3%). and followed by "not worried" (7.2%).

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The correlation between platinum (Pt) functionalization and chlorine (Cl<SUB>2</SUB>) sensing capability in single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) was investigated. Utilizing a photoreduction technique via ultraviolet (UV) irradiation, the Pt nanoparticles (NPs) with various diameters of 7–80nm, which were controlled by Pt precursor concentrations, were successfully functionalized on the sidewalls of SWCNTs. The discrete Pt NP−loaded SWCNTs exhibited significantly enhanced response value (−(ΔR/R<SUB>0</SUB>)×100=33.8%) for 1ppm Cl<SUB>2</SUB> at room temperature (25°C) compared with that (no response) of pure SWCNTs. On the other hand, in case of continuous Pt NP–loaded SWCNTs, Cl<SUB>2</SUB> sensing capabilities were significantly degraded. The Cl<SUB>2</SUB> sensing capabilities of fabricated sensors tended to correlate with geometric configurations of the catalytic Pt NPs on the sidewalls of SWCNTs, due to differences in the electron pathway.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Single-walled carbon nanotubes were functionalized with Pt NPs utilizing photo-reduction method for detecting Cl<SUB>2</SUB>. </LI> <LI> Pt-functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes exhibit outstanding and highly selective Cl<SUB>2</SUB> detection. </LI> <LI> The optimized geometric configuration of Pt NPs leads to the maximized catalytic effect in the Cl<SUB>2</SUB> sensing. </LI> </UL> </P>
