RELATIONSHIP-BASED PRODUCT INNOVATIONS: EVIDENCE FROM THE GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAIN
Ruey Jer “Bryan” Jean,Daekwan Kim,Daniel C. Bello 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7
Global supply chains offer a range of expertise to suppliers interested in generating innovative new products from their close, working relationships with other firms. However, research on whether and how social capital between firms can be leveraged for innovation is equivocal, conceptualizing little of the underlying processes responsible for mobilizing social capital and yielding mostly contradictory empirical results. This study proposes and tests the intermediate mechanisms of proactive customer orientation and joint learning capability as two distinctive capabilities that may account for the way social capital drives relationship-based radical innovation. The conceptual model posits the social capital-innovation link is neither simple nor direct, and an empirical test on 204 Taiwanese suppliers demonstrates the complexity of the innovation generation process. Largely confirming our conceptualization, two pathways from social capital to innovation are revealed: joint learning capability fully mediates the link while proactive customer orientation’s role is moderated by aspects of the suppliers tie to its international customer. Finally, implications for theory and practice for innovation in global supply chain relationships are drawn.

Dr. Bryane Michael is currently an advisor to the Ministry of Finance of a Pacific country and senior fellow at the University of Hong Kong. In his work at the World Bank, OECD, and Morgan Stanley, he advised on some of the newest technologies of the 2000s. He has done his graduate students in economics at Harvard and Oxford, and obtained his law degree from the King's College London. Does financial law shape the competitiveness of an international financial centre? Or does technological change and growth attract the people and assets which turn towns in megalopoli? Hong Kong's bid to dominate the Chinese photovoltaic (solar panel) industry illustrates these issues all too clearly. My analysis traces the way laws on asset and debt securitization have left rival financial centres - like Chicago -- to sell interests in China's still relatively stable solar energy markets. The paper shows the size of the market opportunity and points to several factors that have hampered Hong Kong from developing a more tech-friendly financial law.
Comparison and Study of Active and Hybrid Power Filters for Compensation of Grid Harmonics
Bryan Gutierrez,Sang-Shin Kwak 전력전자학회 2016 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.16 No.4
This paper presents a theoretical analysis and comparisons of active power filter (APF) and hybrid power filter (HPF) systems, given terminal constraints of harmonic compensations in nonlinear loads. Despite numerous publications for the two types of filters, the features and differences between them have not been clearly explained. This paper presents a detailed analysis of the operations of a HPF inverter along with those of passive power filters (PPFs). It also includes their effects on the power factor at the grid. In addition, a theoretical analysis and a systematic comparison between the APF and HPF systems are addressed based on system parameters such as the source voltage, output power, reactive component size, and power factor at the grid terminals. The converter kVA ratings and dc-link voltage requirements for both topologies are considered in the presented comparisons

As the current world population stretches to over 7 billion, the world energy consumption sky rockets over 140000TWh, which will continue to increase in the future. The current world energy supply depends on the exploitation of fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum. Coal is often branded as a ‘dirty’ energy source because of its carbon emission. However, methods have been introduced to make ‘clean coal’, such as chemically washing minerals and impurities from the coal and gasification. Green renewable energy is the green alternative to our future energy demands. Green energy such as biomass, wind energy, ocean energy and solar energy are among the most exploited energy sources. Biomass is one of the newest among green energies. Biomass is produced in gasifiers and in abundance. Next, Wind turbines such as HAWT and VAWT are the primary machines that can harness the mighty wind energy. The installed wind power had increased in recent years and shows no sign of slowing down. Aerodynamic wind turbines have to be applied in installed wind power to increase the efficiency. Other than that, with the installation of wave energy capturing buoys, the maximum harvesting of ocean energy can be started. Lastly, energy from the Sun can be harvested in mainly two systems – Solar thermal energy and photovoltaics. Energy storage have been the second most important after the harnessing of green energy. Storage of solar and wind energy at small and large scales are vital especially when there is no sunlight or wind blowing.

Jacking forces which exceed expectations constitute a risk for tunnelling contractors. One scenario in which high forces may arise is when jacking of lubricated pipes is temporarily halted, which was considered by Li et al. using a programme of direct shear testing. While recognising the importance of the topic to the profession, the purpose of this Discussion piece is to highlight some of the limitations of the study.

This essay sheds light on how D. H. Lawrence, the creative artist, accentuated themes from indigenous constellations and ceremony within his later work, utilizing his own imaginaire, but also his direct experience at places like Taos Pueblo, Hopi, and Teotihuacan; it then assesses, from the perspective of an additional century of ethnography, archeology, and historiography, the degree to which his fictionalized renditions of Puebloan and Mesoamerican symbolic constellations accurately depicted those cultures’ values and orientations.
