Clinical Predictors of Excessive Daytime Sleepiness in Patients with Parkinson’s Disease
Bruno Terra Junho,Arthur Kummer,Francisco Cardoso,Antonio Lucio Teixeira,Natalia Pessoa Rocha 대한신경과학회 2018 Journal of Clinical Neurology Vol.14 No.4
Background and Purpose Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) is a common complaint among patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Several factors have been associated with EDS in PD, especially neuropsychiatric symptoms. This study aimed to determine the relationships between neuropsychiatric symptoms, sociodemographic and clinical parameters, and EDS in PD. Methods This cross-sectional study analyzed 85 patients with PD. All patients underwent socioeconomic and clinical data evaluations followed by a psychiatric interview and a neurological examination, including the assessment of sleep features. Patients were divided into two groups according to the presence or absence of EDS, which was defined as a score higher than 10 on the Epworth Sleepiness Scale. Binary logistic regression was performed in order to describe the predictors of EDS. Results We found that EDS affects 40% of PD patients and is associated with older age, restless legs syndrome, depressive and anxious symptoms, and worse sleep quality. In the multivariate analysis, older age, levodopa use, and worse sleep quality remained as significant predictors of EDS in PD. Conclusions Nighttime sleep problems, older age, and levodopa use are significantly associated with EDS in PD. A careful assessment and the management of sleep problems in PD patients might help to improve their quality of life.

3GPP LTE/LTE-A and IEEE 802.16m have recently been submitted to ITU as IMT-Advanced candidates. MIMO is one of the core technologies that enable both standards to achieve the tough requirements specified by ITU. This paper provides an introduction to the core downlink MIMO features of both standards.

This report presents the first occurrence of the Indo-Pacific benthic ctenophore Coeloplana (Benthoplana) meteoris (Thiel, 1968) in the western part of the Arabian-Persian Gulf, extending its range to 2000km, a record that illustrates a cyclic event observed in the Marine Arabic Province. The seasonal biodiversity influx of invertebrates from the Indian Ocean that establish themselves for a short period of time in the west of the Gulf before the extreme high temperatures takes place in the summer.

From the early days of Anglo-settlement, Australia was a strong defender of protectionist trade policies. This began in the relations between the colonial states which engaged in closer and freer trade with their colonial master, the United Kingdom (UK), than with other colonies. However, by the 1950s, Australia was a staunch defender of the GATT approach in its attempts to create a greater level playing field across many sectors and especially in the agricultural sector. The Australian Government made its most significant leap into free trade with the reforms to the economy in the 1980s which continued in the following decades, ultimately leading to bilateral relations trade agreements with some eleven nations with a further five waiting for implementation. Its most ambitious Free Trade Agreements have been with China, Japan and South Korea as they were Australia’s key markets and were at the same time Australia’s first, second and third most important export destination. A Free Trade Agreement with the European Union (EU) remains a key objective. The EU is not yet “institutionalised” with a trade agreement yet it is Australia’s second largest trade partner (regional) and includes (at the time of writing) one of its historical primary trading partners, the United Kingdom (UK). For decades trade discussions with the European Union (and its predecessors) brought very little comfort or agreement in Australian trading circles. Australian agricultural producers had lost a crucial market when the UK had joined the Common Market, and had had to make amends to cover that loss. Over time the global markets changed and Australia’s new trade preferences, with Asian partners in particular, were able to compensate for that loss. The EU has re-emerged as a market of significant interest and the past tensions are being put to bed. It was, in the words of the former Trade Minister, the “missing piece” in Australia’s trade scenario [see endnote].

A three-year-old female spayed Lurcher was referred for the treatment of a highly comminuted distal tibial articular fracture. Resection of the area of comminution with a transverse osteotomy of the tibial diaphysis and talar ridges was performed, followed by modified pantarsal arthrodesis and a calcaneotibial screw. The treatment resulted in 7 cm of tibial shortening, equating to a 28% reduction in the total tibial length. Radiographic union of the arthrodesis was successful. Fair use of the pelvic limb was documented long-term. Combined acute limb shortening and modified pantarsal arthrodesis resulted in an acceptable outcome and could be considered in cases of highly comminuted distal tibial fractures.
European Studies in Australia: Origins, Development and Current Standing
( Bruno Mascitelli ),( Sophie Di Francesco-mayot ),( Peter Morgan ),( Bruce Wilson ) 한국EU학회 2020 Asia-Pacific Journal of EU Studies Vol.18 No.2
European Studies in Australia really emerged in the 1990s Australian universities initially through the medium of university curriculums. European Union integration studies were rare within the curriculum and appeared mostly through the portal of multidisciplinary curriculum. Much of the studies of Europe became associated with the appreciation, or lack thereof, of what was happening and what was understood with the European project. Given the British origins of Australia and difficulties experienced by Australia with British entry in the European Community in 1973, the perception of Europe was not an especially positive one. The furious response from political circles, agriculture and other impacted entities had a lasting impact on Australia’s vision of the European project. Amidst this background European Studies emerged and timidly proceeded to establish itself. In this background the Australian association for European Studies emerged when in 1991 in an Australian Political Science conference, voices were raised for a specific perspective towards Europe. Thus emerged the Contemporary European Studies Association of Australia (CESAA) which joined the EU Studies Asia Pacific at its foundation and provided an Australian voice. The culmination of this evolution was the grand step to merge with its New Zealand counterparts in May 2020 bringing greater reach, breadth and depth to European Union outreach in this part of the world.

Acceptance and the probiotic viability of aninnovative non-dairy frozen açaí (Euterpe oleracea, Mart.)dessert supplemented and not supplemented with inulinduring a shelf-life of 84 days at −18oC were investigated. Desserts containing and not containing probiotic Lactobacillusacidophilus La-5 and Bifidobacterium animalis Bb-12 andinulin were produced, resulting in 4 mixes of frozen açaí:control (M1), pro (M2), pre (M3), and synbiotic (M4). Sensory acceptability scores and probiotic counts wereobtained during 84 days of storage. Inulin, a key factor forproduct approval, significantly (p<0.05) increased overallproduct acceptance of both M3 and M4, compared withM1. La-5 viability was above 7 log CFU/g for both pro andsynbiotic desserts. Bb-12 counts were above 6 log CFU/gonly for M4. All frozen açaí desserts were suitable forprobiotic delivery and were accepted by consumers. Addition of inulin is recommended both for increasingacceptance and for the synbiotic potential.
Plan Recognition in Smart Homes - An approach based on the Lattice Theory
Bruno Bouchard,Abdenour Bouzouane,Sylvain Giroux 한국과학기술원 인간친화 복지 로봇 시스템 연구센터 2005 International Journal of Assistive Robotics and Me Vol.6 No.4
Assistance to people suffering from cognitive deficits in a smart home raises very complex issues. Plan recognition is one of them. After a tour of plan recognition systems and their limitations, it is proposed to use the lattice theory, combined with the action description logic, to formalize the inferential process of plan recognition into a model of reasoning by classification through a lattice structure. It is then sketched how this approach offers an effective solution to concrete recognition of ADL in a smart home. For instance, this solution enables to address the recognition of multiple interrelated plans and to classify them. This work is indeed one more brick for the deployment of a web of specialized plan recognizers in a smart home, each one using a perhaps different approach to plan recognition adapted to the context and the task to recognize.
