        A Simplified Optimization in Cotton Bale Selection and Laydown

        We present a new approach to bale laydown grouping, which improves the laydown to laydown uniformities, compared to conventional approaches. In this approach, we use a frequency-relative picking method based on an HVI quality index for cotton bale selection and laydown formation. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach by computer simulation on real HVI data of 1500 cotton bales. Simulation results show that the proposed method significantly outperforms random picking.

        The present study are concerned with the boiling characteristics of the subcooled impinging jet on a flat heated surface, but it has as a key feature the use of interference plate that is a solid surface opposed to a flat heated surface for the purpose of making very small clearance, s=0.2~0.3mm, restricting the fluid movement of the impinging jet. It was found that with the increase of impinging jet velocity heat flux and heat transfer coefficient increased. Empirical equations obtained with their close relations are as follows : q_max = 1.4 × 10^6u^0.994 α_max = 1.301 × 10^5u^0.388

        Phylogenetic Relationships among Groupers (Genus Epinephelus) Based on Mitochondrial Cytochrome b DNA Sequences

        To infer phylogenetic relationships among Epinephelus species inhabiting coastal regions of Korean peninsula, mitochondrial cytochrome b genes from 9 species belonging to the subfamily Epinephelinae were PCR-amplified, cloned and sequenced. Aligned cytochrome b sequences of 10 species containing one additional sequence from GenBank were 1,140 base pairs in length, including 439 variable and 330 parsimony informative sites. The cytochrome b genes of 10 species, as other vertebrates studied to date, exhibit unequal base compositions: an entirely low G content (15.2±0.3% on average) and almost equal T, C and A contents (29.3±0.8%, 30.7±1.0%, and 24.8±0.5% on average, respectively). In third codon positions, transitional substitutions especially between Epinephelus species and outgroup species are almost certainly saturated or near saturation. Phylogenetic analyses were performed with sequence data from 8 Epinephelus species and 2 outgroup species (Cephalopholis urodela and Variola louti) by using distance-based (neighbor joining and minimum evolution) and parsimony-based (maximum parsimony) methods. The results showed that the monophyly of the genus Epinephelus was supported by relatively high bootstrap values. However, phylogenetic relationships among E. areolatus, E. moara, E. septemfasciatus, and Epinephelus sp were poorly resolved. Within the genus Epinephelus, three resolved monophyletic groups were found: Glade 1 included E. akaara and E. awoara; Glade 2 included E. fasciatus and E. merra; and Glade 3 included E. akaara, E. awoara, E. fasciatus, E. merra, E. areolatus, E. moara, E. septemfasciatus and Epinephelus sp.

      • Development of Black Sesame Variety ‘Dahuck’ with Disease Resistance, High Yield Potential

        This experiment was conducted to develop new black sesame variety with multi-disease resistance and high yield potential. A new sesame variety ‘Daheuk’ was developed from Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute in 2009. Cross was made by ‘Whahuck’ with high disease resistance and F1 line of ‘Yoosung’ and ‘Keunhuck’ with high yields capacity & disease resistance, followed by pedigree selection, yield test and RYT by the sesame breeding team at the National Institute of Crop Science and Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute up to 2009. The variety showed higher disease resistance and yield potential rather than that of check variety ‘Yangheuk’. Average stem length and the number of capsules per plant were 117cm, 75 respectively. It’s 1000 grains weight was about 2.80g indicating 0.20g higher than that of ‘Yangheuk’, and it’s protein content was about 25.7% which is higher than that of check variety. ‘Daheuk’ also contained total 3.0mg/g of lignan compounds which is lower than that of ‘Yangheuk’. The average yield of ‘Daheuk’ was 97kg per 10a at the national-wide regional performance.

        Nelumbinis Semen Reverses a Decrease in $5-HT_{1A}$Receptor Binding Induced by Chronic Mild Stress, a Depression-like Symptom

        Depression is associated with a dysfunctional serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT) system. More recently, several lines of evidence suggest that an important factor in the development of depression may be a deficit in the function and expression of $5-HT_{1A}$ receptors. The present study assessed if Nelumbinis Semen (N. s.) had an anti-depression effect through reversing a decrease in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding in rats with depression-like symptoms induced by chronic mild stress. Using a $5-HT_{1A}$ receptor binding assay, with a specific $5-HT_{1A}$receptor agonist, 8- OH-DPAT (8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino) tetralin), the mechanism of the anti-depression effect of N. s. on rats was investigated, and the effects compared with two well-known antidepressants, Hyperium Perforatum (St. Johns Wort) and fluoxetine (Prozac). Animals were divided into five groups: the normal (N) group without chronic mild stress (CMS), the control (C) group under CMS for 8 weeks, the Nelumbinis Semen (N. s.) treatment group under CMS for 8 weeks, the Hyperium Perforatum (H. p.) treatment group under CMS for 8 weeks and finally, the fluoxetine (F) treatment group under CMS for 8 weeks. Each treatment was administered to rats during the last 4 weeks of the 8-week CMS. A sucrose intake test was performed to test the anti-depression effect of N. s. The N. s. treatment significantly reversed the decreased sucrose intake under CMS (P<0.05 compared to control group under CMS). In the CA2 and CA3 regions of the hippocampus, both N. s. and H. p. reversed the CMS-induced decrease in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding. In the I to II regions of the frontal cortex, N. s. and H. p. also reversed the CMS-induced decrease in$5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding, and even showed a significant increase in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding compared to the F treatment group (N. s. vs. P, p<0.05, H. p. vs. P, p<0.05). However, in the hypothalamus, all treatments reversed the CMSinduced decrease in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding. This reversal effect of N. s. on the decrease in $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding in the frontal cortex, hippocampus and hypothalamus of rat brains was very similar to that of H. p, but different from that of F. It is concluded that N. s. presents an anti-depression effect through enhancing $5-HT_{1A}$receptor binding.

        지시적 심상요법이 체외 수정을 받는 여성의 스트레스와 불안에 미치는 효과

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify effects of guided imagery on stress including cognitive, affective, marital and social, and anxiety among women receiving in vitro fertilization (IVF). Methods: Data were collected between April, 21 and June, 17, 2008. The participants in this study were 57 women (26 for the experimental group, 31 for the control group) receiving IVF for primary or secondary infertility in one of the outpatient infertility centers in Seoul. The guided imagery (Suk, 2001) was provided through audio CD to the experimental group by themselves 8 minutes per day for 2 weeks. Data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0 windows program. Results: After guided imagery, the experimental group showed significantly lower affective stress and total stress scores. Anxiety scores increased significantly in the control group, but not in the experimental group after treatment. Conclusion: The findings suggest that guided imagery is an effective nursing intervention for reducing stress especially affective stress and anxiety among infertile women receiving IVF in outpatient infertility center.

        전문적인 음성사용자인 성악가의 음성분석

        The purpose of this study was to find the acoustic differences between non-professional users and classical singers who were able to have voice problems and provide objective data by suggesting estimatestandard so that classical singers could be diagnosed and treated early on the basis of this result. We evaluated 30 classical singers each 15 male and female and 30 non-professional voice users each 15 male and female between 20 ~ 40years without vocal diseases at present and compared classical singers with non-professional voice users about the analysis of special subjects as voice subject symptom, voice fatigue, in addition to vocal hygiene surveyed in voice questionnaire By using stroboscope, the aspect of classical singers’vocal was measured. The five vowels (MDVP) for acoustic analysis and pitch range exam for VRP and MPT was compared with non-professional voice users. The results were as follows: First, Fo of classical singers with normal vocal cords, it showed that was increased comparing with non-professional voice users, but there were statistically no significant differences. In jitter, shimmer, NHR, both of them belonged to the normal range, It did not show significant difference between classical singers and non-professional voice users. Second, In MPT they had no differences. Finally, In VRP, both of classical singers and non-professional voice users showed significant differences. We confirmed that the classical singers in professional voice users were different from the non-professional voice users. We consider this result would be helpful to diagnose early and treat through acoustic analysis standard when they visit because of their voice problem. 본 연구는 전문적인 음성사용자인 성악가의 음향음성학적인 분석을 통해 비전문적 음성 사용자와의 차이점을 알아보고 음성문제에 많이 노출되어 있는 성악가들의 음향학적 분석을 통하여 객관적인 평가 기준을 제시하여 조기에 정확하게 진단하고자 하였다. 성대병변이 없는 20대에서 40대 사이의 남녀 각각 15명씩 성악인 30명과 일반 대조군으로 성악훈련을 받지 않은 비직업적 음성사용자 남녀 각각 15명씩 30명을 대상으로 음성 설문지에서 나타난 음성자각증상 및 피로도와 음성위생 등 특이 사항에 대하여 대조군과 비교하였다. 음성검사에 대한 결과로 스트로보스코피 검사결과에서는 실험군과 대조군 모두 성대병변이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 음향학적 분석으로 기본주파수(Fo)에서는 성악인이 대조군에 비하여 높게 나타났으나 통계적 유의성은 없었으며, 주파수변화율(jitter), 진폭변화율(shimmer), 소음대 배음비(NHR)에서도 성악가와 대조군 남녀 모두 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났으나, 최대발성지속시간 (MPT)은 성악가가 비직업적 음성사용자에 비해 길게 나타나 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 음역검사에서도 두 집단 모두 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 나타내었다. 성악가들은 일반인들과는 다르게 음성학적으로 차이가 있음을 확인하였고, 본 연구가 성악가들의 음성학적으로 객관적인 자료를 제공함으로써 성악가가 음성문제로 인해 내원하였을 시 조기에 진단하고 치료하는 데 도움이 되리라고 생각된다.
