        The main issues on the demand and supply of water in rural areas are optimization of the water resources development, provision of infrastructure in agriculture by appropriate utilization and conservation, and conservation of rural environment. However, the characteristics in using rural water was not properly considered in the management of rural water, since rural water has not been managed by the watershed unit but by the administrative unit due to the convenience. The purpose of this study is to delineate rural water districts to reflect property of rural water and to build spatial database for analysis of using rural water, to develop a prototype GIS system for query and to evaluate the applicability of the system with applying it to a tested site. This system also aims to provide various analyses based on a standardized common watershed map, which was generated and harmonized by different ministries of the government.

      • The Elderly's Health Status and Quality of Life: 2002 vs. 2013

        The purpose of this research is to compare the effects of three health factors on the elderly``s quality of life in 2002 and 2013. Major results of this study was as follow: First, physical health status and social health status are greater in 2013, otherwise perception of mental health status of the old people is higher in 2002. Second, both the overall quality of life and life assessment (past, present, and future) are higher in 2013. Third, the elderly’s health status has significantly and positively related to quality of life for them in 2002 and 2013. Fourth, three health factors have positive effects on the overall quality of life and the strongest predictor of the overall quality of life is social health. This research has a important meaning to compare the effects of health status on the quality of life for the old people by the same measurements of health status and quality of life in 2002 and 2013.

      • The Perception of Social capital for the elderly

        The purpose of this research is to test effects of social integration and social support on the perception of social capital for the elderly in baby boomer group and old people group. Major results of this study was as follow:First, the baby boomer has more perceived their health status and they feel happy more than the old people. Also, the sense of happiness is more than the intermediate level on the 10-point scale in two groups. Second, in case of the baby boomer, the perception of social capital for the elderly is less than the old people’s perception. Third, social integration and social support are significantly and positively related to the perception of social capital for the elderly in the baby boomer and the old people. Fourth, social integration is important predictor of perception of social capital for the elderly in two groups.

      • A Study on the Abused Elderly's Quality of Life

        The purpose of this research is to test causal relationships among family function, social support, mental health, and subjective quality of life for the abused elderly. Major results of this study was as follow: First, family function and social support had significant positive effects on the mental health for the abused elderly. Second, family function, social support, and mental health had significant positive effects on the abused elderly`s quality of life. The strongest predictor of the subjective quality of life for the abused elderly was family function. Third, family function was the highest in direct effect, indirect effect, total causal effect, and total effect for the abused elderly`s quality of life. Fourth, this research supported a hypothesized model for the abused elderly`s quality of life. To improve the subjective quality of life for the abused elderly, it is need to recover injured family function. The abused elderly and their family members need a social network service system to change violence situations and improve relationships among them. Social network service system has to provide healing and education programs for the victim and assaulter. Community protection system has to cooperate with old people and assaulter, family members and family environments, and social environments.

      • A Causal Model on Perceived Quality of Life for the Elderly Women

        The study was to investigate the relationships among health status, self-esteem, and perceived quality of life for the elderly women. The specific objectives were 1) to identify the determinants of perceived quality of life for the elderly women, and 2) to test the path model of perceived quality of life for the elderly women. First, social health status was less than physical health status and mental health status and mental health status. Second, the strong predictor of perceived quality of life was health status. Third, health status and self-esteem were significant variables intervening in a path model.

      • The Determinants of the Retirement Acceptance

        The purpose of this research is to explore determinants of the retirement acceptance. In particular, this study focused on the effects of personal factor (self-esteem, health status), retirement factor (preparation for retirement, duration of retirement), and environment factor (leisure satisfaction, family life satisfaction) on the retirement acceptance. The respondents were limited to retirees either retirement pensions or full-time working retirees over 55 years old, who live together with spouse in Jeju, South Korea. The survey was conducted to July 15 from July 1, 2011. Major results of this study were as follow: First, the retirement acceptance of the respondents was approximately middle level. Second, the retirement acceptance had significant difference by respondent`s age and education level. Third, the predictors of retirement acceptance were self-esteem, preparation of retirement, and satisfaction with family life. The strongest predictor was self-esteem of the retired elderly. The retiree`s personal factor had higher effect than other factors` effect in the retirement acceptance.

      • Active Aging Research Trends in Korean Journal(2002-2011)

        The purpose of this study is to explore the analysis of research trends, research type, and research method type on the active aging researches for ten years from 2002 to 2011 in aged welfare journal in Korea. The trends of research on the active aging were analyzed by means of reviewing articles published from 2002 to 2011 in Journal of the Korean Gerontological Society and International journal of welfare for the aged. Out of all published articles, 457 articles and 286 articles were selected on the basis unanimity among 3 reviewers including this author. Major results are as follow; first, active aging research of the second period(2007-2011) has more than the first period(2002-2006). Second, social participation category of active aging is the lowest in two journals. Social integration sub-category is the highest in the Journal of the Korean Gerontological Society; otherwise social activity sub-category is the greatest in the International Journal of welfare for the aged. Education sub-category is the lowest in two journals. Third, psychological health sub-category of health promotion category is more than physical health sub-category in the International Journal of welfare for the aged. Fourth, Social environment safety sub-category is the greatest, but physical environment safety sub-category is the lowest in two journals. Fifth, cooperation research type is more than single research type, but, research of same major has more than the research of different major in both the journals. Sixth, quantitative research method type is more than qualitative research method type in two journals.

      • The Perception of Active Aging and Quality of Life for the Elderly

        This research is to explore the effects of the active aging category and sub-category on the quality of life for the elderly in Jeju. Major results are as follow; first, for the 65-84 years old people, physical health and mental health are higher than the over 85 years old people. The 65-84 years old people is less perception of social integration level than the over 85 years old people. The over 85 years old people is more positive view of the safety than the 65-85 yeard old people. Second, perception of overall quality of life is above the middle in both 65-84 years old group and over 85 years old group. The future life assessment of the 65-84 years old group is higher than the other group. Third, for the 65-84 years old group, physical health and social health have significant and positive effects on the quality of life. Physical health and mental health have significant and positive effects on the quality of life in the over 85 years old group. Fourth, for the 65-84 years old group, social activity and social contribution have significant and positive effects on the quality of life. Social integration and social contribution have significant and positive effects on the quality of life in the over 85 years old group. Fifth, the 65-84 years old group, social environment safety has significant and positive effect on the quality of life. Physical environment safety has significant and positive effect on the quality of life in the over 85 years old group.
