CHARACTERIZATION OF CENTRAL UNITS OF ℤAn
Bilgin, Tevfik,Gorentas, Necat,Kelebek, I. Gokhan Korean Mathematical Society 2010 대한수학회지 Vol.47 No.6
The structure of V(Ƶ($ZA_n$)) is known when $n\leq6$. If n = 5 or 6, then a complete set of generators of V (Ƶ($ZA_n$)) has been deter-mined. In this study, it was shown that V (Ƶ($ZA_n$)) is trivial when n = 7, 8 or 9 and it is generated by a single unit u when n = 10 or 11: This unit u is characterized explicitly for n = 10 or 11 by using irreducible characters of $A_n$.

Bilgin, Elif,Dizdar, Yavuz,Serilmez, Murat,Soydinc, Hilal Oguz,Yasasever, Ceren Tilgen,Duranyildiz, Derya,Yasasever, Vildan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.4
Background: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the serum neuron-specific enolase (NSE) levels in patients with prostate cancer, Hodgkin lymphoma, lung cancer and peripheral nerve tumors. Materials and Methods: NSE levels were determined by ELISA in the sera of 100 prostate cancer, 47 Hodgkin lymphoma, 35 lung cancer and 35 peripheral nerve tumor patients and also in 132 healthy controls. Results: The median levels of serum NSE were elevated in patients with lung cancer (p=0.018) and peripheral nerve tumors (p=0.008). NSE levels in prostate cancer and Hodgkin lymphoma patients were higher than the controls but there was no statistically significant difference (p>0.05). Conclusions: We conclude that NSE may be applied in routine to gain insight about the clinical statuses of various cancer patients, but more studies are needed to determine the organ specificity.

Bilgin, Tevfik,Kusmus, Omer,Low, Richard M. Korean Mathematical Society 2016 대한수학회보 Vol.53 No.4
Describing the group of units $U({\mathbb{Z}}G)$ of the integral group ring ${\mathbb{Z}}G$, for a finite group G, is a classical and open problem. In this note, we show that $$U_1({\mathbb{Z}}[T{\times}C_2]){\sim_=}[F_{97}{\rtimes}F_5]{\rtimes}[T{\times}C_2]$$, where $T={\langle}a,b:a^6=1,a^3=b^2,ba=a^5b{\rangle}$ and $F_{97}$, $F_5$ are free groups of ranks 97 and 5, respectively.

Bilgin, Elif,Yasasever, Vildan,Soydinc, Hilal Oguz,Yasasever, Ceren Tilgen,Ozturk, Nakiye,Duranyildiz, Derya Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.9
Aim and Background: The aim of the present study was to evaluate correlations between serum osteocalcin, osteoprotegerin and NTX (Cross-linked N-telopeptides of Type I Collagen) and urinary NTX in breast and lung cancer patients with bone metastases. These four markers are considered to have important roles in bone formation, resorption and metastases. Methods: Four markers were determined in the sera of 60 breast cancer and 21 lung cancer patients and healthy controls (n=30). Serum levels were studied using ELISA and EIA. Results: The median levels of serum osteoprotegerin (p<0.001) and osteocalcin (p=0.003) were higher in patients. Significant correlations were observed between the serum NTX-osteocalcin (r=0.431; p<0.001), serum NTX-osteoprotegerin (r=0.42; p=0.003) and serum NTX - urine NTX (r=0.255; p=0.022). Conclusion: We conclude that osteocalcin, osteoprotegerin and NTX are independent diagnostic tools. Due to the ease of urine collection, urine NTX may be applied routinely to allow early detection of bone metastases and indicate progression of the disease.

Background: Septic arthritis of the shoulder is a rare but devastating condition that may lead to joint destruction. There are few studies and limited outcome data on shoulder arthroplasty for infected native shoulders with end-stage glenohumeral arthritis (GHA). Hence, this study aimed to demonstrate the clinical outcomes of two-stage implantation in reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) using an antibiotic spacer in the first stage for this challenging condition. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study on two-stage implantation in RSA in infected shoulders. Patients were diagnosed with end-stage GHA due to primary shoulder sepsis or infection following non-arthroplasty shoulder surgery. Laboratory data, range of motion (ROM), and functional scores including American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons score, Constant score, and Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand score were assessed prior to spacer placement and at the latest follow-up. Furthermore, intraoperative and postoperative complications were recorded. Results: In this study, 10 patients with a mean age of 54.8 ± 15.8 years (range, 30–77 years) were included. The mean follow-up period was 37.3 ± 9.1 months (range, 25–56 months). All postoperative ROM measurements and functional scores were improved significantly. Although no reinfection was observed, a total of 5 complications including 2 hematomas, 1 intraoperative humeral fracture, 1 humeral stem loosening, and 1 anterior deltoid dysfunction were observed in 4 patients after a follow-up period of at least 2 years after RSA. Conclusions: Two-stage implantation in RSA is an effective method for improving the function and controlling the infection in postinfectious end-stage GHA in native shoulders.

Reduced graphene oxide based TiO2–ZnO nanostructures (RGO/TiO2/ZnO) are growth by hydrothermal method and characterized by SEM, XPS, XRD, and UV–vis analyses. XRD analysis confirmed the formation of wurtzite ZnO and anatase TiO2 over the tandem nanostructure. The UV–vis spectrum indicated that the hybrid catalyst has the lowest band gap energy (Eg = 2.5 eV). Photocatalytic degradation of the catalysts towards estrogen (bisphenol-A) and pharmaceuticals (ibuprofen, flurbiprofen) was investigated under UV and visible light irradiation. The heterojunction RGO/TiO2/ZnO catalyst exhibited greater photocatalytic activity than bifunctional RGO/TiO2 and TiO2/ZnO.
A comparative study on the seismic provisions of different codes for RC buildings
Huseyin Bilgin,Marijana Hadzima-Nyarko,Ercan Işık,Hayri Baytan Ozmen,Ehsan Harirchian 국제구조공학회 2022 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.83 No.2
Significant structural damages due to earthquakes reveal the importance of seismic design provisions. This paper presents a comparison between the seismic design provisions of Albania, Croatia, Iran, and Turkey for the design of mid-rise reinforced-concrete (RC) frames. Information on the historical development of the considered provisions are given. The code provisions are compared, illustrating the main differences in the minimum requirements for column and beam detailing and analysis for mid-rise RC frames. 4-story, 5-story, and 6-story buildings are designed according to each design code, and their performance is evaluated comparatively by using a displacement-based adaptive pushover procedure and eigenvalue analysis. It is observed that recent Turkish code has the highest and Albanian code has the lowest level of requirements in terms of member size and reinforcement detailing. The considered models indicate 15%, 20% and 50%, lower period values than the Croatia, Iran and Albania buildings, respectively. Additionally, building models per Croatia, Iran and Albania codes have 30%, 35% and 65% less base shear capacity when compared to Turkish building codes. Building models per Croatia and Iran codes indicate similar properties both in terms of strength and stiffness.
