        Homology of contact CR-warped product submanifolds of an odd-dimensional unit sphere

        We show that homology group on a contact CR-warped product submanifold in odd dimensional sphere is zero under certain conditions in terms of warping function and the dimension of the submanifold.

      • The Exonuclease 1 Glu589Lys Gene Polymorphism and Cancer Susceptibility: Evidence Based on a Meta-analysis

        Background: Published studies on the association between the exonuclease 1 (EXO1) Glu589Lys polymorphism and cancer susceptibility have yielded conflicting results. Thus, a meta-analysis of published studies was performed to assess the possible association. Materials and Methods: All eligible case-control studies published up to January 2013 on the association between the EXO1 Glu589Lys polymorphism and cancer susceptibility were identified by searching PubMed, Web of Science, Science Direct and hand search. Either fixed-effect or random-effect models were used to calculate pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software version 2.2. Results: A total of 4,391 cancer cases and 4,339 controls from 10 studies were included. Overall, no significant association between the EXO1 Glu589Lys polymorphism and cancer susceptibility was observed in either genetic model. However; in subgroup analyses by cancer type, a significant association between EXO1 Glu589Lys and lung cancer risk was found (Lys vs Glu: OR=1.23, 95%CI=1.07-1.41, $p_{heterogeneity}$=0.05). Further, subgroup analysis by ethnicity indicated that there was a statistically increased cancer risk in Asians (Lys vs Glu: OR=1.42, 95%CI=1.30-1.55, $p_{heterogeneity}$=0.07; Lys/Lys vs Glu/Glu: OR=1.93, 95%CI=1.20-3.12, $p_{heterogeneity}$=0.01; Lys/Lys+Glu/Lys vs Glu/Glu: OR=1.52, 95%CI=1.37-1.68, $p_{heterogeneity}$=0.42; Lys/Lys vs Glu/Lys+Glu/Glu: OR=1.68, 95%CI=1.07-2.65, $p_{heterogeneity}$=0.02). However, significant association was absent in Caucasians. Conclusions: This meta-analysis suggests, for the first time, that the EXO1 Glu589Lys polymorphism is not associated with overall cancer susceptibility, although marginal associations were found for lung cancer and Asian subgroups. Additional well-designed studies with larger sample size focusing on different ethnicities and cancer types are needed to confirm these findings.

        TEMPO-treated CNF Composites: Pulp and Matrix Effect

        This study examined the effects of matrix (PVA and Si) on the properties of TEMPO-treated nanocomposites preparing from different pulp sources (Kraft and NaBH4 treated Kraft). Chemical characterization and crystallization were determined via FT-IR, thermal stability via TGA and morphological alterations via SEM. UTM and DTMA were used to measure the Young's and storage moduli. The real and imaginary parts of permittivity and electric modulus were evaluatedusing an impedance analyzer. After interaction, prominent vibrations and alteration of crystallinity were seen. Storage and Young's moduli decreased after Si and PVA interaction. The Si-TOCN films showed higher permittivity properties and all of the films followed a similar trend of significantly dropping ε' and ε'' values at high frequency. The PVA-TOCN films had mechanical advantages at room temperature compared to the Si-TOCN films. However, the Si-TOCN films had better thermomechanical properties at high temperatures. NaBH4 revealed favorable effects on mechanical properties of the films.

        As a result of interaction between countries in a world which is gradually becoming global, foreign language teaching has become more important and this importance is increasing day by day. It is a fact that every language is a door which opens to a different culture; especially interaction between civilizations has made it compulsory to learn about other cultures. This is why the majority of people today are very eager to learn a foreign language. Reading an authentic literary text in the foreign language can be seen as a personal encounter with the foreign culture. If the process of reading and interpreting a text is seen as an attempt to produce meaning from the multiplicity and polyphony of that particular text, the learner enters into a dialogue with the text and the foreign culture in a productive subject-subject relationship. The reading process is individual and authentic and there is not only scope for the individual learner's interpretation and understanding, but also a need for it. Without the reader, the text is just a series of written signs on paper; it is the individual reader with his or her pre-knowledge and 'personal constructs'. In foreign language teaching culture, as regards the cultural dimensions in literary texts are subjects which are often neglected. It is quite difficult to say that the procession of a literary text has been materialized as it should be. This article consists of 3 chapters: Ⅰ. The Peak of Authentic Text Types: Literary Text Ⅱ. Foreign Language/Foreign Culture and Literary Text Ⅲ. The Cultural Dimensions and Contributions of Literary text in Foreign Language Teaching. In this article, literary texts are dealt with their cultural dimensions which are one of the most important factors in foreign language teaching-learning and the importance of choosing literary texts are discussed.


        Prevalence and Comparing of Some Microbiological Properties, Somatic Cell Count and Antibiotic Residue of Organic and Conventional Raw Milk Produced in Turkey

        The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of production systems and milk collection periods on the somatic cell count (SCC), some microbiological properties, total aerobic mesophilic bacteria (TAMB), coliform, Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), yeast and mould) and antibiotic residue of milk; in Turkey. Milk samples were collected from 9 conventional farms and 9 organic farms during one year time, at six different months (December 2013 to October 2014), and all farms were selected from the same geographical locations. All organically managed farms had organic production certificates given by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock. The count of TAMB, coliform, and coagulase positive S. aureus were affected by production systems at the level of p<0.01; yeast and mold, and somatic cell count (SCC) were affected at the level of p<0.05. But, differences according to months were statistically significant only on TAMB (p<0.01) and coliform (p<0.05) counts. The general means of TAMB, coliform and yeast and mould counts of the organic milk (OM) were significantly lower (p<0.05), while the general means of SCC and coagulase positive S. aureus count of the OM was significantly higher (p<0.05) compared to conventional milk (CM). Antibiotic residue was determined in one of the CM sample and in two of the OM samples. Our study is the first research that compared conventional and organic milk in Turkey. This study indicated that the microbiological quality of OM was the higher in terms of TAMB, coliform and yeast and mould, whereas was the lower in relation to SCC and coagulase positive S. aureus counts. But, the quality of both milk types should be improved.

        Detection of Viruses Infecting Stone Fruits in Western Mediterranean Region of Turkey

        Field surveys were conducted in 45 stone fruit orchards in seven districts of Isparta Province located in western Mediterranean region of Turkey important for stone fruit production. Leaf samples were collected from 175trees showing virus-like symptoms. These samples were first tested by ELISA for five different RNA viruses including Apple mosaic ilarvirus (ApMV), Prunus necrotic ringspot ilarvirus (PNRSV), Prune dwarf ilarvirus (PDV),Plum pox potyvirus (PPV), Apple chlorotic leafspot trichovirus (ACLSV). While no ApMV and PPV infection was found, 46, 24 and 16 samples were tested positive for PDV, ACLSV and PNRSV, respectively, in ELISA showing about 45% of symptomatic trees in the region were infected with at least one of these viruses. In addition,it was found that nine sweet cherry trees were mixed infected with two or three of these viruses and PDV with an infection rate of 26.3% was the most widespread virus in symptomatic trees in western Mediterranean region. Thirty samples were selected and tested by a multiplex RT-PCR (mRT-PCR) for simultaneous detection of these viruses. While PPV was not detected, more than half of the tested 20 samples were individually or mixed infected with ApMV, ACLSV, PNRSV and PDV. The mRT-PCR results were confirmed by detection of these viruses individually in some of the field samples using RT-PCR with primes specific to each virus. Comparison of ELSA and mRT-PCR results of 30 samples showed that numbers of infected and mixed infected samples as well as infection and mixed infection rates were significantly higher in RT-PCR (20 and 66.7%)than in ELISA (14 and 46.7%). The results confirm that mRT-PCR is more sensitive than ELISA.

        The use of autologous fat grafts in breast surgery: A literature review

        Autologous fat injection was first described roughly a century ago and has been used in surgery ever since. In addition to its use in many surgical fields, it is also frequently used for both aesthetic and reconstructive purposes in breast surgery. Since the application of fat grafting in breast surgery has steadily increased, studies investigating its reliability have simultaneously become increasingly common. Previous studies have reported that the use of fat grafting in breast surgery is reliable, but some pending questions remain about its routine use. In order to use fat grafts successfully in breast surgery, it is necessary to be familiar with the structure and content of adipose tissue, the efficacy of adipose stem cell-enriched fat grafts, the oncological safety of fat grafts, and the problems that may occur in the radiological follow-up of patients who undergo fat grafting procedures. In this literature review, we aim to discuss the use of fat grafts in breast surgery by investigating these common problems.

        In the present study we consider the generalized rotational surfaces in Euclidean spaces. Firstly, we consider generalized spherical curves in Euclidean (n + 1)-space ${\mathbb{E}}^{n+1}$. Further, we introduce some kind of generalized spherical surfaces in Euclidean spaces ${\mathbb{E}}^3$ and ${\mathbb{E}}^4$ respectively. We have shown that the generalized spherical surfaces of first kind in ${\mathbb{E}}^4$ are known as rotational surfaces, and the second kind generalized spherical surfaces are known as meridian surfaces in ${\mathbb{E}}^4$. We have also calculated the Gaussian, normal and mean curvatures of these kind of surfaces. Finally, we give some examples.


        Magnetic Properties of a Mixed Spin-3/2 and Spin-2 Ising Ferrimagnetic System within the Effective-field Theory

        The magnetic properties of the ferrimagnetic mixed spin-3/2 and spin-2 Ising model with a crystal field in a longitudinal magnetic field on a honeycomb ( = 3) and a square lattice ( = 4) are studied by using the effective-field theory with correlations. The ground-state phase diagram of the model is obtained in a longitudinal magnetic field (h) for a single-ion potential or a crystal-field interaction () plane. We also investigate the thermal variations of the sublattice magnetization, and present the phase diagrams in the (/|J|, kBT/|J|) plane. The susceptibility, internal energy, and specific heat of the system are numerically examined, and some interesting phenomena in these quantities are found due to the applied longitudinal magnetic field. Moreover, the system undergoes first- and second-order phase transitions; hence, the system has a tricritical point. The system also exhibits reentrant behaviors.

        Slant Submanifolds of an Almost Product Riemannian Manifold

        In this paper, we study both slant and semi-slant submanifolds ofan almost product Riemannian manifold. We give characterizationtheorems for slant and semi-slant submanifolds and investigatespecial class of slant submanifolds which are product version ofKaehlerian slant submanifold. We also obtain integrabilityconditions for the distributions which are involved in thedefinition of a semi-slant submanifold. Finally, we prove atheorem on the geometry of leaves of distributions under acondition.
