        A Dataset of Online Handwritten Assamese Characters

        This paper describes the Tezpur University dataset of online handwritten Assamese characters. The online data acquisition process involves the capturing of data as the text is written on a digitizer with an electronic pen. A sensor picks up the pen-tip movements, as well as pen-up/pen-down switching. The dataset contains 8,235 isolated online handwritten Assamese characters. Preliminary results on the classification of online handwritten Assamese characters using the above dataset are presented in this paper. The use of the support vector machine classifier and the classification accuracy for three different feature vectors are explored in our research.

        Recently, Gireesh, Shivashankar, and Naika [11] found some infinite classes of congruences for the 3- and the 9-regular cubic partitions modulo powers of 3. We extend their study to all the 3<sup>k</sup>-regular cubic partitions. We also find new families of congruences.

        VISIBLE LIGHT PHOTOCATALYSIS BY TAILORING CRYSTAL DEFECTS IN ZINC OXIDE NANOSTRUCTURES

        The photocatalytic activity of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles, films and nanowires as a potential visible light photocatalyst is presented in this work. ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized in different alcoholic solvents. Crystal defects were introduced either by doping the crystallites with manganese or by fast crystallization (using microwave irradiation during synthesis). ZnO, with a band gap of 3.37 eV, normally absorbs electromagnetic waves in the ultraviolet region, but introducing defects into its crystal lattice can shift the absorption more toward the visible light band from 400 nm to 700 nm by creating intermediate states which inhibit electron–hole recombination. The undoped ZnO nanoparticles synthesized using microwaves showed comparable photocatalytic activities to the doped samples using the conventional heating method. To increase the effective surface area of the photocatalyst, ZnO nanowires were grown by a solution-based technique. Methylene blue degradation was observed to be enhanced in the presence of the ZnO nanowires compared to the ZnO nanoparticles. Intentional defect creation in photocatalysts could be an attractive possibility to apply in the visible light photocatalytic degradation studies.

        Carbothioamide as Highly Efficient Ligand for Copper-catalyzed Room Temperature Chan–Lam Cross-Coupling Reaction

        The catalytic activity of three N,S-donor ligands, viz L1 [2-(4-methoxybenzylidene)-N-phenylhydrazinecarbothioamide], L2 [2,2′-(1,2-diphenylethane-1,2-diylidene)bis(hydrazinecarbothioamide)] and L3 [2-(4-methoxybenzylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamide] has been reported for N-arylation of imidazoles with arylboronic acids in ethanol at room temperature. The method was found to be applicable in N-arylation for a wide range of electronically diverse arylboronic acids with imidazoles having modest to excellent isolated yields. The in situ generated copper(II) complex of the ligand namely, 2-(4-methoxybenzylidene)-N-phenylhydrazinecarbothioamide (L1) was found to be highly efficient homogeneous catalyst for N-arylation reaction.

        Synthesis, characterization of novel Fe-doped TiO2 activated carbon nanocomposite towards photocatalytic degradation of Congo red, E. coli, and S. aureus

        In this work, the synthesis, characterization, and photocatalytic activity of iron-doped titanium dioxide nanoparticles (FDT) supported on environmentally benign activated carbon (PAC) has been discussed. The photocatalytic activity of the nanocomposite was investigated for the degradation of Congo red (CR) dye from aqueous solution under visible light (520 nm), and it was observed that 100% degradation for 20 ppm CR solution took place within 60 mins. The experimental data of photodegradation of CR using the FDT/PAC nanocomposite had the highest correlation with Langmuir Hinshelwood model and pseudo-first-order rate kinetics with an apparent rate constant of 0.05341min-1 and half-life period of 12.97mins, respectively. The thermodynamics study revealed that the degradation process is exothermic and spontaneous. The effect of interfering ions on the degradation of CR solution was also examined. The photocatalytic antibacterial activity of the nanocomposite was tested against two bacteria pathogens, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, and it was found that for the concentration of 105 CFU ml-1, 100% photocatalytic inactivation was achieved for both Escherichia coli in 120mins and Staphylococcus aureus in 75 mins under visible light irradiation. The total electrical energy consumed and operating cost were measured and the total operating cost was 312.50, 236.74, and 166.67 INR (Indian rupee) for 20 ppm, 60 ppm, and 100 ppm CR dye removal using 0.06 g FDT/PAC nanocomposite, respectively.

        Numerical Modeling of Regenerative Rotary Heat Exchanger: A Review

        Background: Heat recovery is one of the prominent ways to save a considerable amount of conventional fossil fuel and minimize its adverse effects on the environment. The rotary heat exchanger is one of the most effective and efficient devices for heat recovery or heat exchanging purposes. It is a regenerative type of heat exchanger, which has been studied and used for many heat recovery purposes. However, regenerative thermal wheels have been mostly used as heat recovery systems in buildings. For modeling a rotary regenerator, it is very important to numerically consider all the factors involved, such as effectiveness, rotational speed, geometrical size and shape, and pressure drop (Δp). In recent times, several researchers have actively studied the rotary heat exchangers, both theoretically and experimentally. Reviews: In this paper different advances in the numerical modeling of regenerative rotary heat exchangers in relation to fluid flow and heat transfer have been discussed. Researchers have indicated that the effectiveness of the regenerative rotary heat exchanger depends on various factors including, among many others, rotational speed, rotational period and combustion power. It is reported that with the increase of periodic rotation the deviation of theoretical results from the experimental result increases. The available literature indicates that regenerative heat exchangers are having relatively more effectiveness (60-80%), compared to other heat exchangers. It is also observed that the finite difference method and finite volume methods are mostly used for discretizing the heat transfer governing equations, under some assumptions. Research also indicates that for the effectiveness calculation the ε-NTU method is the most popular and convenient.

      • An Improved Biometric-based Multi-server Authentication Scheme Using Smart Card

        To protect the resources from unauthorized users, the remote user authentication have become an essential part in the communication network. Currently, smart card-based remote user authentication for multi-server environment is a widely used and researched method. Remote user authentication for multi-server environment has resolved the problem of users to manage the different identities and passwords. Recently, Mishra et al. proposed a multi-server authenticated key agreement scheme using smart cards, where they claim that their scheme is secure enough and could resist the various well known attacks. However, in this paper, we have shown that their scheme is not secure as they have claimed and can suffer from impersonation attacks and stolen smart card attack. Later in the paper, we propose an improved multi-server authentication scheme using smart cards, which not only overcomes the mentioned weaknesses but also can provide more functionality features.

      • A New Remote User Authentication Scheme based on Graphical Password using Smart Card

        Remote user authentication schemes provide a system to verify the legitimacy of remote users’ login request over insecure communication channel. Since last few years many authentication schemes have been proposed including several new features and ideas. But, due to the advancement of computational process they are suffering from various possible attacks. This is the reason because of which attaining the security becomes a prime issue and major challenge among the researchers. In this paper, we have proposed a new user friendly authentication scheme that can provide the higher security at lower computational cost. This scheme provides extra level of security by adopting the user-defined image for password generation. Finally, the security analysis and performance evaluation are made to proof the efficiency of our scheme.
