      • Novel enhanced pole selectivity bandpass filter with large dynamic range

        A high pole selectivity (Q_p) bandpass filter realizable in MOSFET-C topology is suggested. The op-amps are used in fully balanced topology which has good power supply noise rejection. The proposed filter has low op-amp count in addition to a wide dynamic range. The circuit has been compared with conventional enhanced pole selectivity bandpass filter. The circuit is simulated by SPICE and a dynamic range of 123.39 dB is obtained for Q_p value of 60.

        A STUDY ON THE PERFORMANCE OF RHODE ISLAND RED, WHITE LEGHORN AND THEIR CROSS WITH NAKED NECK CHICKEN

        160 day-old chicks of Rhode Island Red, White Leghorn and their crossbred with Naked neck chicken were reared upto 23 weeks of age at Bangladesh Agricultural University Poultry Farm in order to study the economic traits of birds. RIR had highest body weight gain (1494.39 g), followed by White Leghorn (1392.57 g), $RIR{\times}NN$ (1268.9 g) and White Leghorn ${\times}$ NN (1266.73 g). RIR showed significant difference (p < 0.05) to other groups of birds in body weight gain but difference were insignificant in between other birds. RIR showed better feed conversion ratio (4.72:1) but difference were insignificant (p > 0.05), however, $RIR{\times}NN$ exceled White Leghorn ${\times}$ NN in feed efficiency. $RIR{\times}NN$ had highest livability (90%) while White Leghorn had lowest (85%). Earlier sexual maturity was observed in White Leghorn (163 days) than RIR (168 days) but cross breds were similar in age at sexual maturity RIR were heaviest (1538.89 g) at age at sexual maturity, on the other hand $RIR{\times}NN$ were heavier (1315.39 g) than $WL{\times}NN$ (1306.77 g) at sexual maturity.

        A Study on the Performance of Fayoumi, Rhode Island Red and Fayoumi × Rhode Island Red Chickens under Rural Condition of Bangladesh

        Two months old Fayoumi, Rhode Island Red, and Fayoumi ${\times}$ Rhode Island Red chickens were reared upto 512 days of their age in the villages surrounding Bangladesh Agricultural University in order to study comparative performances of the 3 genetic groups with or without extra feeding to scavenging system of rearing and also, to study the suitability of these breeds reared under the rural condition. Fayoumi attained earlier sexual maturity (238.5 vs 262.5 d) and laid more eggs than other breeds/types. Rhode Island Red produced the largest eggs, but mortality rates were highest and Fayoumi showed greatest resistance to diseases. Crossbred was heaviest (1,275 g at 247.5 d of age) and had highest hatchability than parental breeds. Age at sexual maturity (247.5 d), 50% egg production, peak production and mortality in crossbreds were mostly influenced by sire Fayoumi but for the egg weight and body weight, the effect of the dam Rhode Island Red was significant. Extra feeding was found more beneficial to the chickens irrespective of breeds and types. The crossbred Fo ${\times}$ RIR chickens were found more suitable under rural scavenging system than the exotic breeds, Fayoumi and Rhode Island Red in the rural areas of Bangladesh.

        Jak kinase 3 signaling in microgliogenesis from the spinal nestin <sup>+</sup> progenitors in both development and response to injury

        <P>During spinal cord development, endogenous progenitors expressing nestin can migrate into the target and differentiate into neurons and other glial cells. Microglial cells can also be derived from nestin<SUP>+</SUP> progenitor cells, even in the adult brain. Knockdown of Jak kinase 3 (Jak3) signaling can increase neurogenesis with longer neurite outgrowth in cortical progenitor cells. This study investigated the effect of Jak3 signaling on differentiation from nestin<SUP>+</SUP> progenitor cells using E13.5 spinal progenitor cell cultures. In growth factors-enriched culture, developing neurons could not survive after several days and also a significant proportion of nestin-expressing cells transformed into ameboid Iba1<SUP>+</SUP> microglial cells, which increased exponentially after 5 days. This microgliogenesis was predominantly regulated by Jak3 signaling, which was confirmed by transcription factors responsible for microgliogenesis, and microglial migration and phagocytosis, such as Pu.1, Irf8, and Runx1. Jak3 inhibition also significantly increased the Tuj1<SUP>+</SUP> growing neurites with little microglial activation. These results indicated that neuronal and microglial cell differentiation was regulated primarily by Jak3 signaling and the developing neurons and neurite outgrowth might also be regulated by Jak3-dependent microglial activity.</P>

        Moisturizing effect of serine-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles and polysaccharide-rich extract of root Phragmites communis incorporated in hydrogel bases

        This study evaluated the moisturizing effect ofserine-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (serine-SLN) andpolysaccharide-rich reed (Phragmites communis) rootextract (RRE) incorporated in hydrogel bases. The hydrogelswith serine-SLN and/or RRE were carefully appliedon the volar forearm of human volunteers. Their moisturizingefficacy was evaluated by monitoring conductancevalues using a skin surface hygrometer. The values of thearea under the normalized conductance-time curve(AUCC) were developed and compared as a parameter forthe water holding capacity of the skin. Hydrogels withserine-SLN did not significantly moisturize the skin, whilehydrogel containing 0.25% RRE produced a significantincrease in the moisture content of the skin. However,adding more than 0.25% of RRE into the hydrogel basedecreased the moisturizing effect due to the markedreduction of viscosity. Significantly enhanced moisturizingeffect was observed with the hydrogel containing 0.25%RRE and 3% serine-SLN, with AUCC increased 2.21 timescompared to than blank hydrogel. The results imply thateffective delivery of serine into the skin is possible usinglipid-based nanocarriers and RRE, which could be apromising strategy to moisturize the skin effectively.

        Nonlinear seismic performance of code designed perforated steel plate shear walls

        Nonlinear seismic performances of code designed Perforated Steel Plate Shear Walls (P-SPSW) were studied. Three multi-storey (4-, 8-, and 12-storey) P-SPSWs were designed according to Canadian seismic provisions and their performance was evaluated using time history analysis for ground motions compatible with Vancouver response spectrum. The selected code designed P-SPSWs exhibited excellent seismic performance with high ductility and strength. The current code equation was found to provide a good estimation of the shear strength of the perforated infill plate, especially when the infill plate is yielded. The applicability of the strip model, originally proposed for solid infill plate, was also evaluated for P-SPSW and two different strip models were studied. It was observed that the strip model with strip widths equal to center to center diagonal distance between each perforation line could reasonably predict the inelastic behavior of unstiffened P-SPSWs. The strip model slightly underestimated the initial stiffness; however, the ultimate strength was predicted well. Furthermore, applicability of simple shear-flexure beam model for determination of fundamental periods of P-SPSWs was studied.

        Solid Lipid Nanoparticles of Serine Designed by Evaluating Affinity of Solid Lipids to Stratum Corneum for Enhanced Skin Hydration in Combination with Reed Root Extract

        The study aimed to assess the skin hydrating effect of hydrogels containing serine-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) prepared with lipids having high affinity to the stratum corneum (SC) and polysaccharide-rich reed (Phragmites communis) root extract (RRE). To select a lipid with high affinity to the SC, the interaction between the SC obtained by a tape stripping technique and three different lipids such as glycerol mono-oleate (GMO), lauric acid (LA), and capric acid (CA) was examined by ATR-FTIR. After choosing GMO as the lipid with the highest affinity to the SC, hydrogel formulations containing serine-loaded GMO SLN and/or RRE were prepared, and their skin hydrating effect was evaluated after applying the hydrogels to the surface of human skin. The hydrogel containing serine-loaded GMO SLN and RRE exhibited the greatest skin moisturizing effect, followed by the hydrogels with serine-loaded GMO SLN, RRE, and blank hydrogel. The results implied that SLN prepared with GMO having high affinity to the SC could be used as an efficacious carrier of serine for the purpose of skin hydration, and synergistic skin hydrating effect could be achieved by different skin moisturizing mechanisms of the serine-loaded SLN and RRE.

        Grounded Identities: Saṅkhārā and Consciousness - Continuity in the Context of Rebirth Process

        본 논문은 팔리 니까야(Pāli Nikāyas)의 윤회 과정의 맥락에서 행(saṅkhārā, 조건 지어진 힘)과 식(viññāṇa)의 관계를 논의한다. 이와 관련하여 식의 두 가지 측면이 논의되었다. 첫 번째 측면은 ‘재생연결식’으로, 단순한 ‘감각의 의식’이 아니라 오히려 ‘의식의 흐름(viññāṇa-sota)’이다. 이것은 지속적으로 변화하는 흐름이고, 과거-현재-미래의 삶으로 확장하는 무아이다. 이 식은 그 대상[境]인 업(kamma)과 함께 간답바(gandhabba) · 심(citta) · 식(viññāṇa)과 밀접한 관계를 갖는다. 두 번째 측면은 ‘인지’로, 근(根)과 경(境)에 의존하여 발생하는 ‘감각의 식’을 나타낸다. 이와 같은 식의 두 가지 측면에 대해, 행은 식이 영속시키는 것에 근거하는 가장 근접한 조건이다. 식의 연속성이라는 맥락에서 행은 업력으로써 작용한다. 이것은 다른 계(界)에서 존재가 확정되는 결과인 유루(āsava)와 결합하는 ‘성격 특성’이나 ‘정체성’을 지속한다. 이와 관련하여, 식이라는 씨앗(viññāṇaṃ bījaṃ)은 상속(santati)이라는 개념과 함께 논의되어, 식이라는 씨앗은 ‘유루의 영향을 받는 식’을 의미한다. 본고의 서술은 어떤 형이상학적 실재에 의지하지 않고, 오로지 연기(pa icca-samuppāda)의 원리에 의한 인과법에 근거한다. This article discusses the relationship between sa khārā (conditioning forces) and consciousness (viññāṇa) in the context of rebirth process in the Pāli Nikāyas. In this regard, two aspects of consciousness are discussed. One is “surviving factor,” which is not a mere “sensory consciousness,” rather, it is the “stream of consciousness” (viññāṇa-sota), a continuously changing stream and not-self extending into previous-present-future lives. This consciousness is identified with gandhabba/citta/viññā a with its object kamma. Another aspect is “cognition” which refers to “sensory consciousness” that occurs depending on sense bases and sense objects. For both aspects of consciousness, saṅkhārā is a proximate condition based on which consciousness perpetuates. In the context of consciousness-continuty, saṅkhārā functions as a kammic force persisting with “personality traits” or “identities” associated with out-flow (āsava) the result of which the being’s existence is confirmed in different realms. In this connection, consciousness seed (viññāṇaṃ bījaṃ) is discussed with the concept of continuity (santati) that consciousness seed means “consciousness affected by āsava.” The presentation of this article is strictly based on causality with the principle of dependent co-arising (paṭicca-samuppāda) without recourse to any metaphysical entity.
