        Dynamics of Air Temperature, Velocity and Ammonia Emissions in Enclosed and Conventional Pig Housing Systems

        This study aimed to compare the dynamics of air temperature and velocity under two different ventilation and housing systems during summer and winter in Korea. The $NH_3$ concentration of both housing systems was also investigated in relation to the pig's growth. The ventilation systems used were; negative pressure type for the enclosed pig house (EPH) and natural airflow for the conventional pig house (CPH). Against a highly fluctuating outdoor temperature, the EPH was able to maintain a stable temperature at 24.8 to $29.1^{\circ}C$ during summer and 17.9 to $23.1^{\circ}C$ during winter whilst the CPH had a wider temperature variance during summer at 24.7 to $32.3^{\circ}C$. However, the temperature fluctuation of the CPH during winter was almost the same with that of EPH at 14.5 to $18.2^{\circ}C$. The NH3 levels in the CPH ranged from 9.31 to 16.9 mg/L during summer and 5.1 to 19.7 mg/L during winter whilst that of the EPH pig house was 7.9 to 16.1 mg/L and 3.7 to 9.6 mg/L during summer and winter, respectively. These values were less than the critical ammonia level for pigs with the EPH maintaining a lower level than the CPH in both winter and summer. The air velocity at pig nose level in the EPH during summer was 0.23 m/s, enough to provide comfort because of the unique design of the inlet feature. However, no air movement was observed in almost all the lower portions of the CPH during winter because of the absence of an inlet feature. There was a significant improvement in weight gain and feed intake of pigs reared in the EPH compared to the CPH (p<0.05). These findings proved that despite the difference in the housing systems, a stable indoor temperature was necessary to minimize the impact of an avoidable and highly fluctuating outdoor temperature. The EPH consistently maintained an effective indoor airspeed irrespective of season; however the CPH had defective and stagnant air at pig nose level during winter. Characteristics of airflow direction and pattern were consistent relative to housing system during both summer and winter but not of airspeed. The ideal air velocity measurement favored the EPH and therefore can be appropriate for the Korean environment. Further emphasis on its cost effectiveness will be the subject of future investigations.

      • 축분뇨 액비 저장조의 운영실태 및 악취 물질 발생량 조사

        본 연구는 국내에 설치되어 있는 액비저장조의 운영실태를 조사하고, 액비저장조에서 발생되는 악취물질을 구명하고자 수행하였다. 1. 국내에 200톤 규모의 액비저장조를 설치한 60 농가를 대상으로 한 본 조사에서 약 $93\%$가 액비저장조를 제대로 가동을 하고 있었으며 이중 $57\%$가 액비제조시 폭기 처리하고 있었다. 2. 조사 농가 중 년간 액비의 활용 횟수는 2회가 $50\%$로 나타났고 액비의 부숙 효과를 높이고 악취를 저감시키기 위한 목적으로 $64\%$가 미생물제제를 첨가하고 있었다. 반면에 액비 이용시 인력 장비의 비용 및 악취물질 발생 저감을 위한 첨가제 비용이 $43\%$로 조사되어 액비이용 시 문제점으로 지적되었다. 3. 액비 제조 형태별 악취물질 발현양상으로 호기 제조시 액비저장조내에서는 iso-valeric acid가 0.012에서 0.07ppm, Propionic acid가 $0.17\~2.85ppm$의 범위로 검지되었으며 혐기 제조시에는 n-Butyric acid가 1.5에서 2.3ppm, n-valeric acid가 $1.3\~1.8ppm$, acetaldehyde가 0.8에서 2.1ppm로 검지되어 호기 제조방법과 혐기 제조방법 모두 휘발성 지방산의 농도는 악취방지법의 규제농도 이상이었다. 부지경계선에서의 악취물질을 보면 호기시에는 미검출로 나타났고 혐기 제조시에는 Acetaldehyde가 $0.4\~0.9ppm$ 수준으로 검지되어 악취방지법의 규제농도를 초과였다. This study was carried out to determine the acceptability of liquid manure bin among livestock farmers and agricultural farmers, and quantify its malodorous compounds. The results were as follows; 1. The size of the manure bins owned by $93\%$ of 60 farmers surveyed was 200 M/T and were all in normal operation. Around $57\%$ of the normally operated bins were processed under aerobic condition. 2. Filly percent of the respondents utilized their liquid manure bin twice a year while $64\%$ used commercial microbial products to enhance maturity of their liquid manure and abatement of malodorous emissions. On the other hand, $43\%$ mentioned problems on the labor requirement, mechanical maintenance and lending cost of liquid manure processing and utilization, and the price of the commercial microbial products. 3. Malodorants emitted from livestock liquid manure bins and their boundary bin depended upon the livestock liquid manure processing condition. Within bin under the aerobic processing condition, Iso-valeric and propionic acid were ranged 0.012 to 0.07ppm and 0.17 to 2.85ppm, respectively. Within bin under the anoxic processing condition, n-butyric, n-valeric acid, and acetaldehyde were ranged 1.5 to 2.3ppm, 1.3 to 1.8ppm, and 0.8 to 2.1ppm, respectively. Malodorants emitted from the boundary of livestock liquid manure bins under the anoxic processing condition were detected the range of 0.4 to 0.9 ppm, more than the concentration of law regulation, as an acetaldehyde, but under the aerobic processing condition, they did not any detection.

      • 무창 육계사의 계절별 먼지 농도와 특성 연구

        본 연구는 무창육계사의 계절별 먼지 농도와 계사 먼지의 특성을 알아보고자 경기 화성 소재 육계농장의 무창계사에서 시험을 수행하였으며 결과는 다음과 같다. 1 여름철 무창육계사의 주령별 먼지농도는 TSP의 경우 1주령 1,229, 2주령 904.5, 3주령 558.8 그리고 4주령시 $1,053{\mu}g/m^3$이었다. 2. 겨울철에는 주령이 경과함에 따라 급격히 증가하는 경향이었으며, TSP의 경우 1주령시 465.4, 2주령시 1,401, 3주령시 4,497, 4주령시 5,097 그리고 5주령시 $6,873{\mu}g/m^3$이었다. 3. 겨울철 5주령시 최대 TSP량은 $11,132{\mu}g/m^3$을 보여 노출기준에 비하여 매우 높게 검출되었다. 4. 하루중의 먼지 분포는 여름철의 경우 이른 아침에 높게 나타났으며 환기량이 많은 오후에 최소량이 검출되었다 그러나 겨울철에는 이른 아침에 낮은 량이 검출되고 닭의 활동이 많은 오후에 먼지농도가 높게 검출되었다. 5. 먼지 입자 크기 분포에 있어서 숫자 기준으로 하였을 경우에는 $0.05\~0.35{\mu}m$ 크기의 먼지 분포가 높게 나타났으나 용적을 기준으로 하였을 경우에는 $16\~99{\mu}m$의 큰 먼지가 높은 분포를 보였다. 6. 먼지의 조단백질 함량은 DM기준으로 $42.8\~65.2\%$를 보여 급여사료의 조단백질 함량 $20.5\~24.5\%$에 비하여 높았으며 중금속의 경우에도 급여사료에 비하여 높은 농도를 보였다 This study was carried out to investigate the concentration and characteristics of dust originating from windowless broiler building in each season. 12.0m width and 46m tenth with side wall height of 3.0m was investigated and capacity was 12,800 birds at a stock density of 23.2 birds per square meter. Dust concentrations in terms of total suspended particles (TSP), and particulate matter of sizes $10{\mu}m(PM10),\;2.5{\mu}m (PM2.5),\;and\;1{\mu}m(PM1)$ were measured at 30-minute intervals. On the basis of broiler age, the average dust concentration in summer in TSP as follows: 1,229 904.5 558.8 and $1,053{\mu}g/m^3$ on the broilers' first to fourth week of age, respectively. But during winter, the average dust concentration showed an increasing pattern, as follows: 465.4, 1,401, 4,497, 5,097 and $6,873{\mu}g/m^3$ on the broilers' first to fifth week of age, respectively. The maximum dust concentration of $11,132{\mu}g/m^3$ was observed on the fifth week. On a daily basis, the maximum dust concentration during summer was detected in early morning, and the minimum in the afternoon. The aerial dust particle size of $0.05\~0.35{\mu}m$ was the highest in number. But on volume basis, particle size of 16~99 un had the largest percentage in the broiler house. Crude protein of the dust $(42.8\~65.2\%)$, on dry matter basis, was higher than that $(20.5\~24.5\%)$ fed to the broilers. Heavy metal concentration of the dust also had high levels compared with that of the feed.
