Acupuncture and Dry Needling in the Reduction of Peripheral Acute Fatigue Induced in the Biceps Braquii: Protocol for a Single-blinded Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

Gabriel Barreto Antonino,Ana Paula de Lima Ferreira,Eduardo Jose Nepomuceno Montenegro,Alberto Galvão de Moura Filho,Arthur Felipe Freire da Silva,Maria das Graças Rodrigues de Araújo 사단법인약침학회 2020 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.13 No.5

The present study aims to propose a protocol to verify the efficacy and acute effects of traditional Chinese acupuncture, dry needling, and the rest in peripheral acute fatigue (PAF) induced by intermittent isometric contractions of the nondominant biceps brachii (BB) of nonphysically active men in a randomized, single-blind clinical trial assessed with surface electromyography, contraction time in seconds, infrared thermal imaging, and visual analog scale applied to the PAF. These instruments will evaluate the median frequency, endurance time, temperature (°C), and perceived fatigue in BB of the volunteers. The measurements will be collected in four moments (Test 0, 01, 02, and 03) divided between the beginning and the end of two sets of exercises (Exercises 01 and 02) of intermittent isometric contractions. Trial identifier: NCT03448120 in www.clinicaltrials.gov.

Peripheral nerve blocks for acute trigeminal neuralgia involving maxillary and mandibular branches: a case report

Ricardo Luiz de Barreto Aranha,Renata Gonçalves Resende,Fernando Antônio de Souza 대한치과마취과학회 2023 Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Vol.23 No.6

Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is neuropathic pain that affects the trigeminal nerve branches. Facial pain experienced by patients with TN is typically intense and excruciating. The second and third branches (maxillary and mandibular) are commonly affected. This case report focuses on the potential treatment options for acute TN attacks involving these branches. The proposed approach involves extra-oral peripheral blocks using local anesthetics. Pain levels were measured using a visual numeric scale (VNS) with potential side effects and other relevant documented information. The patients showed responses from high pain levels to almost complete remission (from 8 to 2 and from 10 to 2 on the final VNS), with no significant side effects. This technique provides immediate pain relief and complements oral medications by offering comfort and confidence until the desired drug effect is achieved.

Abstraction, cognition and communication, on Luis J. Prieto as reader of Éric Buyssens

        E. Israel Chávez Barreto 고려대학교 응용문화연구소 2020 에피스테메 Vol.0 No.23

The aim of this paper is to analyze Prieto’s reading of Éric Buyssens’ seminal work on semiology, Les langages et le discours, Essai de linguistique fonctionnelle dans le cadre de la sémiologie. The analysis is made from two perspectives: a historical perspective and a theoretical perspective. The historical perspective presents the context, regarding Prieto’s academic work, within which Prieto read Buyssens, for this we take into consideration the papers Prieto published in second half of the 50’s and the research reports from 1962 to 1965 that are held in the Prieto archives at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. The theoretical perspective is mainly grounded on the hypothesis that Prieto made a “cognitive reading” of Buyssens’ claims. The analysis is divided according to three thematic areas: (a) the treatment of “abstraction” in Buyssens and in Prieto, (b) the problem of the delimitation of functional units as a cognitive problem, and (c) the distinction between communication versus indication.

플로린도말리다시바레토 ( Florindo Malidasi Barreto ),남원호 ( Won-ho Nam ) 한국농공학회 2020 한국농공학회 학술대회초록집 Vol.2020 No.-

The problem of high amount of fluoride in groundwater is commonly in the worldwide. Many researchers and scholars with different techniques was tried dealing with that problem so as to solve it. Different parameters affecting efficiency of fluoride removal such as adsorbent dose, the time of contact, temperatures conditions, fluoride concentration, pH solution and ions concentrations were considered. Groundwater was used to test the performance of the adsorbent under the optimum conditions. Equilibrium data are well expressed by Freundlich isotherm models and Langmuir, so as to Compared to the adsorption characteristics of fluoride on Aluminum chloride. The pseudo first order and pseudo second order were also applied in comparison. While the pseudo second-order model is found to be more suitable than the pseudo first-order to the fluorides adsorption description. It is observed that, under the optimum conditions the use of aluminum chloride with modified rice husk bio char are maximum in fluoride removal, which indicated that aluminum chloride-modified bio char can be used efficiently as adsorbents for the fluoride removal. The aluminum chloride-modified bio char derived from rice husk were used to treat the fluoride obtained from groundwater.

Vol.- No.66

Virtual singers, musicians that show themselves as fictional characters instead of human corporeal beings, had been pioneers in the use of animation, motion capture, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality in the music industry ever since their emergence in 1950’s America. Created alongside by writers, musicians and artists, these animated singers had broken the barriers to what singers should be and what they should look like, and had achieved a level of musical success comparable to that of modern human performers. This study examined the theoretical background of fictional, cyber and virtual singers, provided a historical background of animation singers in the 1920s and 1950s, and a historical overview of animation technologies and achievements of American, British, Japanese, and Korean virtual singers from the 1950s to 2020s. The purpose of this study was to define a time-line including the achievements of virtual singers in the music industry, and to propose the emergence of a new type of singer who succeeded by using animation as the main means of expression. In addition, this study revealed that despite their virtual existence, animated performers have grown and evolved along side real human singers over the past 70 years, and the number of virtual singers is expected to increase in the near future due to their current growth in popularity.

Prosthetic misfit of implant-supported prosthesis obtained by an alternative section method

Rodrigo Tiossi,Hilmo Barreto Leite Falcão-Filho,Fábio Afrânio de Aguiar, Júnior,Renata Cristina Silveira Rodrigues,Maria da Gloria Chiarello de Mattos,Ricardo Faria Ribeiro 대한치과보철학회 2012 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.4 No.2

PURPOSE Adequate passive-fitting of one-piece cast 3-element implant-supported frameworks is hard to achieve. This short communication aims to present an alternative method for section of one-piece cast frameworks and for casting implant-supported frameworks. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three-unit implant-supported nickel-chromium (Ni-Cr) frameworks were tested for vertical misfit (n = 6). The frameworks were cast as one-piece (Group A) and later transversally sectioned through a diagonal axis (Group B) and compared to frameworks that were cast diagonally separated (Group C). All separated frameworks were laser welded. Only one side of the frameworks was screwed. RESULTS The results on the tightened side were significantly lower in Group C (6.43 ± 3.24 µm) when compared to Groups A (16.50 ± 7.55 µm) and B (16.27 ± 1.71 µm) (P<.05). On the opposite side, the diagonal section of the one-piece castings for laser welding showed significant improvement in the levels of misfit of the frameworks (Group A, 58.66±14.30 µm; Group B, 39.48±12.03 µm; Group C, 23.13±8.24 µm) (P<.05). CONCLUSION Casting diagonally sectioned frameworks lowers the misfit levels. Lower misfit levels for the frameworks can be achieved by diagonally sectioning one-piece frameworks.

Neuro-stimulation Techniques for the Management of Anxiety Disorders: An Update

Sujita Kumar Kar,Socorro Barreto,Rahul Chandavarkar 대한정신약물학회 2016 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.14 No.4

Neuro-stimulation techniques have gradually evolved over the decades and have emerged potential therapeutic modalities for the treatment of psychiatric disorders, especially treatment refractory cases. The neuro-stimulation techniques involves modalities like electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) and others. This review discusses the role of neuro-stimulation techniques in the treatment of anxiety disorders. The various modalities of neuro-stimulation techniques are briefly discussed. The evidence base relating to use of these techniques in the treatment of anxiety disorders is discussed further. The review then highlights the challenges in conducting research in relation to the use of neuro-stimulation techniques with reference to patients with anxiety disorders. The review provides the future directions of research and aimed at expanding the evidence base of treatment of anxiety disorders and providing neuro-stimulation techniques as promising effective and acceptable alternative in select cases.

        ADS-Bsec: A novel framework to secure ADS-B

        Thabet Kacem,Alexandre Barreto,Duminda Wijesekera,Paulo Costa 한국통신학회 2017 ICT Express Vol.3 No.4

The Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) protocol can be used as a complement to Radar-based Air Traffic Control (ATC), or as a replacement in areas where the latter is impractical. However, ADS-B messages do not include any integrity or authenticity thus they can be easily tampered using inexpensive hardware and open source software. Modifying ADS-B message format is infeasible because it would render the already large implemented base obsolete. This paper proposes ADS-Bsec, which addresses the ADS-B limitations while being compatible with the installed base. ADS-Bsec provides the missing integrity and authenticity into ADS-B packets using a key management infrastructure without altering the existing packet format. This paper also argues for including the proposed framework as a component of the NextGen infrastructure based on our experience in prototyping efforts using cognitive radios, cryptography and multilateration together with existing radar-based ATC systems.

Clozapine Monitoring in Clinical Practice: Beyond the Mandatory Requirement

        Nilamadhab Kar,Socorro Barreto,Rahul Chandavarkar 대한정신약물학회 2016 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.14 No.4

Clozapine is effective in treatment resistant schizophrenia; however, it is underutilised probably because of its side effects. The side effects are also the potential reasons for clozapine discontinuation. A mandatory requirement for its use is regular monitoring of white blood cell count and absolute neutrophil count. However there are many side effects that need monitoring in clinical practice considering their seriousness. This article tries to summarise the clinical concerns surrounding the serious side effects of clozapine some of which are associated with fatalities and presents a comprehensive way to monitor patients on clozapine in clinical practice. It emphasizes the need to broaden the monitoring beyond the mandatory investigations. This may help in improving the safety in clinical practice and increasing clinician confidence for greater and appropriate use of this effective intervention.

Protective Efects of Physical Exercise in Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease: A Narrative Review

Thierry Paillard,Yves Rolland,Philipe de Souto Barreto 대한신경과학회 2015 Journal of Clinical Neurology Vol.11 No.3

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) are devastating, frequent, and still incurable neurodegenerative diseases that manifest as cognitive and motor disorders. Epidemiological data support an inverse relationship between the amount of physical activity (PA) undertaken and the risk of developing these two diseases. Beyond this preventive role, exercise may also slow down their progression. Several mechanisms have been suggested for explaining the benefts of PA in the prevention of AD. Aerobic physical exercise (PE) activates the release of neurotrophic factors and promotes angiogenesis, thereby facilitating neurogenesis and synaptogenesis, which in turn improve memory and cognitive functions. Research has shown that the neuroprotective mechanisms induced by PE are linked to an increased production of superoxide dismutase, endothelial nitric oxide synthase, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, nerve growth factor, insulin-like growth factor, and vascular endothelial growth factor, and a reduction in the production of free radicals in brain areas such as the hippocampus, which is particularly involved in memory. Other mechanisms have also been reported in the prevention of PD. Exercise limits the alteration in dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra and contributes to optimal functioning of the basal ganglia involved in motor commands and control by adaptive mechanisms involving dopamine and glutamate neurotransmission. AD and PD are expansive throughout our ageing society, and so even a small impact of nonpharmacological interventions, such as PA and exercise, may have a major impact on public health.
