Soil Water Diffusivity and Soil Water Stress Coefficient Studies Using Weighting Lysimeter Data
오동식,제임스 에이야스,리차드 소페,엄기철,Oh, Dong-Shig,Ayars, James E.,Soppe, Richard,Eom, Ki-Cheol Korean Society of Soil Science and Fertilizer 1999 한국토양비료학회지 Vol.32 No.4
A new and relatively simple equation for the soil water content-pressure head curve, ${\theta}$(h) is described in this paper. The particular form of the equation enables one to derive closed-form analytical expressions for the relative hydraulic conductivity, Kr, when substituted in the predictive conductivity models of Y. Mualem. Hopmans' equation is presented as an experimental method. The experienced method, $ET_a=K_sK_cET_o$ is introduced to estimate the actual evapotranspiration, $ET_a$(or $ET_c$). Using $ET_c$ and coil water data measured automatically in a weighing lusimeter, $K_s$ and $K_c$ values are estimated. Recently, FAO has introduced calculation procedures for the soil water(stress) coefficient, Ks in "Guidelines for computing crop water requirements".

Objective: Monocyte to high density lipoprotein ratio (MHR) is a new instrument for giving notice inflammation, which plays a main role in schizophrenia. Thus, in this study, our goal was to investigate the possible association between MHR and schizophrenia. Methods: The participants of this study consisted of 75 schizophrenia patients and 74 healthy individuals (control group). The Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale was used to collect data from the patient group. Complete blood count parameters and lipid profile were analyzed in all study participants. Results: The patients with schizophrenia had higher MHR values (15.04 ± 3.31 in schizophrenia patients and 12.62 ± 2.99 in controls; p = 0.001). Monocyte counts and MHR of the schizophrenia patients were significantly higher than the control group. There was a significant and positive correlation between age, body mass index, severity of disease and MHR. Conclusion: To our knowledge, this study was the first to demonstrate inflammatory markers such as MHR levels in schizophrenia patients. Both monocyte counts and MHR values in schizophrenia patients were higher than the control group. MHR might be an available and useful inflammatory marker to evaluate inflammation in schizophrenia patients.

Purpose: This cross-sectional, descriptive study analyzes the association between personality traits and internet addiction in adolescents. Methods: The study was conducted with 328 adolescents attending two high schools in the Aegean region of Turkey. The data were collected using a sociodemographic information questionnaire, the Internet Addiction Scale and the Adjective Based Personality Scale from students who gave their informed consent to participate. Data were assessed by descriptive statistics, t tests, and logistic regression analysis, using SPSS software. Results: The students had an average age of 16.43 ± 1.47 years and 40.5% were female. The percentage of subjects at risk of internet addiction was 15.9% (n = 52), and 42.4% (n = 22) of them reported that the amounts of time they spent online was acceptable. We found statistically significant differences in the average subdimensional scores for extraversion (t = 2.310, p < .050) and openness to experience (t = 3.35, p < .001), and between students at risk of internet addiction (n = 52) and those who were not (n = 276). Conclusions: Adolescents who were found to be at risk of internet addiction nevertheless reported on the survey questionnaires that the amount of time they spent online was acceptable. The study determined that participants' risk of internet addiction was associated with their levels of extraversion and openness to experience.

Purpose: The aim of the research was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Pediatric Daytime Sleepiness Scale-Turkish Version (PDSS-T). Methods: The researchers chose a study sample of 522 grade 5e11 students. Data were collected using a demographic data collection form and the PDSS-T. Results: Cronbach a for the scale was .79 and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin coefficient was .78. Item-total correlations for the scale varied between .53 and .73 (p < .001). The indices of model fit were determined to be the root mean square error of approximation at .07, the goodness of fit index at .97, and the comparative fit index at .97. Conclusions: The study's results showed that PDSS-T is a valid and reliable instrument for detecting Turkish-speaking children's and adolescents' daytime sleepiness. PDSS-T is convenient for professionals to prevent and manage daytime sleepiness.
Laser cutting of Kevlar laminates: First and second law analysis
Bekir S. Yilbas,Ahmet Z. Sahin,C. Chatwin,Tahir Ayar 대한기계학회 2011 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.25 No.4
Kevlar laminates are difficult to machine using conventional machining methods because of their thermal and mechanical properties. Laser cutting offers advantages over conventional machining methods, such as precision of operation, non-frictional processing, and operational cost. This provides the motivation for the present study, which reports on laser cutting of Kevlar laminates of different thicknesses. The first and second law efficiencies of the cutting process are formulated and predicted in line with the experimental parameters. The laser cut surfaces are examined using optical and electron scanning microscopes. It is demonstrated that the first and second law efficiencies improve at high laser cutting speeds and low laser output power levels. For these conditions parallel sided kerfs with no sideways burning are produced.

Background and Purpose Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a common sleep-related movement disorder that is frequently associated with psychological disturbances. Personality traitsare of considerable importance with respect to coping with chronic illness and disease vulnerability. This study assessed the temperament and character traits of RLS patients using an approach that involves the psychobiological model of personality. Methods The personality features of 65 newly diagnosed and untreated RLS patients with noneurological or psychiatric diseases and 109 healthy controls were determined using the Temperament and Character Inventory and compared using covariance analyses. The InternationalRLS Study Group Severity Scale was used to assess the severity of the RLS symptoms, and theBeck Depression Inventory was used to assess the presence and severity of depressive symptoms. Results RLS patients scored significantly higher than healthy controls on the temperamentdimension of harm avoidance (HA, p=0.02) and significantly lower on self-directedness (SD,p=0.001). No significant difference was observed in terms of the temperament dimension ofnovelty seeking (p=0.435). HA scores were significantly correlated with the BDI score but notwith the RLS severity or duration. Conclusions High HA and low SD scores are the main characterizing personality features ofRLS patients. These personality dimensions may be among the factors predisposing patients todevelopment of the depressive symptoms that are frequently associated with RLS.

A low temperature-inducible cDNA designated as VrUBC1 from mungbean (Vigna radiata) was isolated by subtractive hybridization method. By rapid amplification of cDNA end technique, the full-length cDNA of VrUBC1 was obtained. The full-length cDNA of VrUBC1 contains an open reading frame of 444 nucleotides in length and capable of specifying a 16.5-kDa protein of 148 amino acids (aa) with an isoelectric point of 7.72. VrUBC1 mRNA was induced by NaCl and ABA, but not by wounding and low temperature stress. It was shown that VrUBC1-GFP was localized to the cytoplasm in tobacco cell. To examine the function of VrUBC1, VrUBC1 was expressed in Escherichia coli as His-fusion protein. Purified VrUBC1-His recombinant protein was shown to have ubiquitination activity in vitro. For the in vivo functional analysis of VrUBC1, VrUBC1 was expressed in yeast ubc4/5 double mutant. Stress tolerance was tested in the VrUBC1 overexpressing Arabidopsis transgenic plants. We propose that VrUBC1 play an important role in protein degradation processes during abiotic stress in plants.
