This paper compares the performance of diff erent dynamic reactive power compensators (DRPCs) on transient characteristics of LCC based UHVDC system under hierarchical connection mode (LCC-UHVDC-HCM). The diff erent DRPCs considered are Synchronous Condenser (SC), STATCOM and combination of both SC and STATCOM (hybrid dynamic reactive power compensator, HDRPC). Various transient indices like commutation failure immunity index (CFII), commutation failure probability index (CFPI) and fault recovery time (FRT) of LCC-UHVDC-HCM system are undertaken in order to evaluate the comparative performance of various DRPCs. The LCC-UHVDC-HCM system along with diff erent DRPCs is developed in PSCAD/EMTDC and numerous simulations are done to observe the transient phenomena. The results indicate that performance of DRPCs changes during various AC disturbances such as single phase to ground fault and three phase to ground fault for diff erent fault severity. It is examined that STATCOM is better than other dynamic compensators in improving CFII and CFPI. SC and HDRPC show almost same behavior in improving CFII. However, in case of CFPI, HDRPC is superior to SC. The performance of SC is better than STATCOM and HDRPC in improving FRT under severe fault conditions. However, under low fault conditions, all DRPCs have equal performance in reducing FRT.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is one of the most commonly prescribed anti-cancer agent. However, its use is associated with several debilitating adverse effects such as intestinal mucositis (IM) and myelosuppression. Oxidative stress and inflammation are major contributors in the development of mucositis. Diadzein is known for its potent anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative activities from decades. The present study focused on investigating the effects of diadzein on intestinal mucositis induced by 5-FU by mainly focusing on oxidative stress and inflammatory markers in mice. Mucositis was induced in mice by administration of 5-FU (50 mg/kg, i.p.), once daily for three days and diadzein (1, 5, 10 mg/kg) was administered once daily for seven days. Diadzein pretreatment was found to reduce the severity of mucosal injury in a dose-dependent manner. Diadzein significantly reversed weight loss, relieved diarrhea, and improved histopathological deformities associated with inflammation. Moreover, diadzein remarkably improved the intestinal wall histopathology by reducing inflammatory mediators infiltration and prevented suppression of antioxidants (glutathione, glutathione sulfo-transferase, and catalase) by 5-FU administration. Furthermore, nitrite production in intestinal tissue was reduced by diadzein consistent with the observed modulation of inflammatory markers. Additionally, diadzein also improved the amended microflora profile, by reducing the number of pathogenic bacteria and increasing the abundance of probiotics. Taken together, the behavioral, biochemical and histological outcomes of the present study demonstrates that diadzein has significant anti-mucositis properties in 5-FU induced mucositis model, and the attenuative potential of diadzein might be due to inhibition of oxidative stress and inflammatory mediators.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

This paper presents a novel concept of phase swapping to associate multiple flux weakening ranges to a non-salient PM machine without altering any hardware of the machine. The proposed concept enables a dual three-phase machine to be operated with different displacement angles between the two three-phase windings. Hence, different flux weakening ranges using winding switching can be accomplished by applying this concept. It was also demonstrated that the proposed concept can be utilized for the discrete step as well as continuous operation of the machines. Any application requiring a wide speed range operation of up to thirteen times the base speed can benefit from this proposed concept. Analytical, simulation, and experimental results are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed concept.

<P>Flux weakening is an inevitable requirement in the operation of variable speed permanent magnet (PM) machines for high-speed applications due to inverter voltage limits. A new winding switching technique is experimentally validated in this study that can extend the speed range of such PM machines. A drive topology is proposed that utilises two current regulated voltage source inverters to control the machine in a dual inverter fed configuration before transitioning into an open winding configuration after winding switching. The proposed drive topology extends the constant torque region of the machine and boosts its maximum output power capability. Complete experimental results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed machine drive system for continuous operation over the entire speed range.</P>
Enhanced Magnetic Moment of Epitaxial Υ´-Fe4N Films at Low Temperature

Ferromagnetic iron nitride has fascinated the researchers owing to its amazing magnetic properties for spintronic applications. We have prepared single phase epitaxial thin films of Υ´-Fe4N on single crystal MgO(100) substrates using dc magnetron sputtering. X-ray diffraction revealed that substrate temperature and annealing time were most important parameters for single phase epitaxial growth of the films. Atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were utilized to investigate the surface morphology of the films. Angle dependent magnetic anisotropy was observed in epitaxial thin films of Υ´-Fe4N. A superconducting interference device was utilized to explore the magnetic and electrical behavior of Υ´-Fe4N films at low temperatures.

Twenty-four Harnai lambs 6 to 7 month old, weighing $16{\pm}2kg$ were used in a completely randomized design in growth and digestibility trials to study fourwing saltbush ratio supplemented with cotton seed cake. The animal were divided at random into three groups of 8 animals each. Three iso-nitrogenous (10.5% CP) experimental rations (1, 2 and 3) containing wheat straw + lucerne hay (24:76); fourwing saltbush (Atriplex canescens) + cotton seed cake (71:29); and wheat straw + cottonseed cake (41:59); respectively, were allotted to each group randomly. All the animals were taken out for grazing in a dormant native range for about 3 hours in the afternoon during the growth trial. The growth trial lasted for 8 weeks followed by a digestibility trial. At the end of 8 weeks lambs on ration 3 had gained significantly (p<0.10) more weight compared to those on rations 1 and 2 which maintained their body weight. The crude protein digestibility of the fourwing saltbush based ration was comparable with the other two treatments (71 vs 70 and 71%). However, the digestibility of dry matter (41%), acid detergent fibre (13%) and neutral detergent fibre (22%) of this ration was significantly lower (p<0.10) than the other two diets. The results suggest that lambs can be maintained on fourwing saltbush during winter without significant loss in body weight with 30% extra protein concentrate supplementation.
FOURWING SALTBUSH AS A WINTER MAINTENANCE FORAGE FOR SHEEP IN UPLAND BALOCHISTAN
Rehman, Atiq-ur,Rafique, Shahid,Aro, Richard S. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1990 Animal Bioscience Vol.3 No.2
Sixteen Harnai lambs were used in a completely randomized design to study the nutritive value of fourwing saltbush as a winter maintenance browse in comparison to native range grazing with or without protein and energy supplementation at Tomagh Range Livestock Research Station, in Loralai District, Balochistan. The animals were divided into four groups of four lambs each. These four groups were assigned four treatments at random: fourwing saltbush grazing alone, range grazing plus lucerne hay (100 g/head/day), range grazing plus barley grain (100 g/head/day) and range grazing alone for ten weeks. The results indicate that the two range grazing plus supplementation treatments produced weight gains which were not significantly different from each other (p < 0.05). Both of these treatments yielded significantly higher weight gains (p < 0.05) than did range grazing alone except for the last week of the study. Fourwing saltbush grazing provided cumulative weight gains at 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 weeks which were not significantly different from the range grazing plus lucerne hay treatment and gained an average of 6 percent in body weight over the 10 week period of study. The carrying capacity for sheep of a mature stand of fourwing saltbush was approximately 20 Sheep-kg-days (SKD) of grazing per cubic meter of foliage. Results of this study suggest that under fourwing saltbush grazing alone, lambs do not only maintain their body weights but can also gain weight in winter.
