Influence of Refeeding with Vitamin, Mineral and Fibre on Protein Synthesis and Messenger Ribonucleic Acid Content in the Liver and Muscle of Fasted Chicks

        Aman Yaman, M.,Kita, K.,Pinontoan, R.,Okumura, J. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1998 Animal Bioscience Vol.11 No.5

The influence of refeeding with either vitamin, mineral, fibre of water on protein synthesis and mRNA content in the liver and breast muscle of fasted chicks was investigated. At 15 d of age, chicks were fasted for 2 d and then refed either vitamin, mineral, fibre or water. The fractional synthesis rate (FSR) of protein was measured after 30 min of refeeding by using a large dose injection of L - 2, $6[^3H]$ phenylalanine. In the liver, FSR was reduced by fasting and tended to increase but not significantly by refeeding with vitamin or mineral. FSR was not affected by refeeding with fibre or water. There was no influence of fasting and refeeding on ribosomal capacity (the RNA : protein ratio) and ribosomal efficiency (total protein synthesised per total RNA). The absolute synthesis rate (ASR) of liver protein and hepatic mRNA content were reduced by fasting and unchanged by refeeding. In the muscle, FSR, ASR and mRNA content were significantly decreased by fasting and not recovered by refeeding with either vitamin, mineral, fibre or water. It concluded that vitamin, mineral, fibre and water have little capacity to stimulate liver and muscle protein synthesis reduced by fasting.

Phase transitions and large electric field-induced strain in BiAlO3-modified Bi0.5(Na, K)0.5TiO3 lead-free piezoelectric ceramics

        Aman Ullah,안창원,Ali Hussain,Hai Joon Lee,Ill Won Kim,이선영 한국물리학회 2010 Current Applied Physics Vol.10 No.4

Lead-free piezoelectric (1 - x)(Bi0.5(Na0.78K0.22)0.5TiO3)–xBiAlO3 (abbreviated BNKT22–BA, x = 0.00–0.100)ceramics were synthesized using a conventional sintering technique. The incorporation of BA into the BNKT22 lattice was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), and the dielectric and ferroelectric characterizations and electric field-induced strain behavior. Wefound that the structural and electrical properties of BNKT22 ceramics are significantly influenced by the presence of BA content. X-ray diffraction revealed a pure perovskite phase for x ≤ 0.050. A phase transformation from tetragonal to pseudocubic was observed at x = 0.050. As BA content increased, the maximum dielectric constant continuously decreased, and the depolarization temperature (Td) shifted towards lower temperatures. The polarization and strain hysteresis loops indicate that the addition of BA significantly disrupts the ferroelectric order. The destabilization of the ferroelectric order is accompanied by an enhancement of bipolar and unipolar strains. In particular,a very large electric field-induced strain (S = 0.35%) and a normalized strain (d*33 = Smax/Emax = 592 pm/V)were observed at x = 0.030, near the tetragonal–pseudocubic phase boundary. These results suggested that the BNKT22–BA system is a promising candidate for high performance, lead-free electromechanical applications.

      • Repellency of essential oil of Andong South Korean propolis against small hive beetle and potato tuber moth

        Aman Dekebo,KesatebrhanHaile,Sunil Aryal,Hong Seokmin,Chuleui Jung 한국응용곤충학회 2017 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2017 No.10

The potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller), is a ubiquitous pest on potatoes, tobacco, tomato and othercrops. The small hive beetle (SHB), Aethina tumida Murray, is a pest of European honeybees (Apis mellifera L.) in severalcountries in the world. Propolis is a balm-like substance collected from plants by bees. Its chemical composition variesand depends mainly on the flora in the region in which it is collected as well as the bee species. Hitherto biologicalproperties and the chemical composition of the essential oil extracted from propolis of Korean origin are unknown. Inthis study, while searching for an environmentally friendly method to control these pests we evaluated the repellent effectsof essential oil of propolis collected from Bee Lab of Andong National University and found that it possess repellentactivity against both small hive beetle and potato tuber moth. Moreover, a total of 171 constituents of the oil were identifiedof which 6 were major compounds using GC/MS analysis. We also compared the chemical composition of this oil withthose from 2 Ethiopian regions.

Supervised ECG wave segmentation using convolutional LSTM

        Aman Malali,Srinidhi Hiriyannaiah,Siddesh G.M.,Srinivasa K.G.,Sanjay N.T. 한국통신학회 2020 ICT Express Vol.6 No.3

Electrocardiogram (ECG) is the graphical representation of electrical activity of the heart and is used to detect certain structural and functional heart conditions. Segmenting ECG waveforms and annotating constituent components is required for analysis of ECG and to arrive at a diagnosis. This paper proposes a Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory (ConvLSTM) neural network to segment the ECG waves. It consists of a convolutional layer followed by a Bidirectional LSTM architecture. The segmentation is achieved by adding additional features such as derivative of the ECG wave as well as the smoothened ECG wave and the model outperforms traditional Markov models.

Preparation and Characterization of Oxadiazole Based Electron Transporting Thin Films

        Aman Mahajan,Ramanpreet Kaur Aulakh,R. K. Bedi 대한금속·재료학회 2012 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.8 No.4

To study the effect of aggregation of the 2-(4-biphenylyl)-5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD) molecule in solid state, thin films of PBD have been prepared by the thermal evaporation technique onto glass and quartz substrates under different experimental conditions. These films have been studied for their structural, optical and electrical properties. AFM investigations of the films revealed that the films were smooth, dense and crack free with RMS roughness of 11-14 nm. XRD measurements indicate that films deposited on quartz are more crystalline than films deposited on glass substrate. Both absorption and reflectance spectra over the wavelength range 200 -800 nm have been recorded to find optical parameters, namely, absorption, extinction coefficient, refractive index and dielectric constants. The inter-band transition energies are found to lie within the range 3.45-3.49 eV. Optical studies of the films indicate that PBD molecules preferred J-aggregation. A prominent single emission peak in the range of 370-390 nm has been observed which confirms that the fluorescent property of this molecule is not quenched in the thin film state. The electrical conductivity results for the evaporated films exhibited semiconductor behaviour within the investigated field and temperature range. The nature of the substrate is found to be a useful tool to modify the film morphology and for enhancing the charge transport within the films.

An Experimental Investigation into Data Flow Annotated-Activity Diagram-Based Testing

Aman Jaffari,Cheol-Jung Yoo 한국정보과학회 2019 Journal of Computing Science and Engineering Vol.13 No.3

With the acceptance of Unified Modeling Language (UML) as the de-facto standard for modeling software systems, many research studies have addressed the necessity for utilizing models of systems under testing as inputs for test automation. Recently, activity diagrams have been used as a basis to derive test cases. Current studies have focused on analyzing the control flow of activities. However, examining the control flow among activities is quite simple and such testing on its own is insufficient. This study proposes technique for test case generation that complements an activity diagram with data flow information. To investigate the potential benefits of this technique, we performed an experimental investigation of well-known systems in testing literature. The experimental results were analyzed and compared with a state-of-the-art test suite generation tool as an alternative approach to fault detection effectiveness and efficiency. Overall, the results indicate that the proposed technique outperforms the alternative approach by detecting 27.3% more faults on average. In particular, the proposed technique yielded the best results in detecting faults related to arithmetic operations or parts used for calculation in our context.

Nutritional composition and rearing potential of the meadow grasshopper (Chorthippus parallelus Zetterstedt)

        Aman Paul,Michel Frederich,Roel Uyttenbroeck,PriyankaMalik,Sandrino Filocco,Aurore Richel,Stephanie Heuskin,Taofic Alabi,Rudy Caparros Megido,Thierry Franck,Jerome Bindelle,Philippe Maesen,Frederic Fr 한국응용곤충학회 2016 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.19 No.4

Insects, particularly those belonging to the family Acrididae (grasshoppers), are commonly consumed as human food in many parts of the world. Grasshoppers of the species Chorthippus parallelus are abundantly found throughout Europe. However, these insects were not consumed by Europeans till now, but could possibly be used as human food, which is why we investigated their chemical composition. We found that they contain high level of proteins (69%), with an excellent amino acid profile and protein digestibility (97%). Furthermore, specimens of C. parallelus have an interesting fatty acids profile and minerals composition. Preliminary toxicity assessment indicates that these insects do not exhibit toxicity towards neutrophil cells (white blood cells). These data suggest that C. parallelus could be considered for human consumption. Rearing trials done during the study show that commercial rearing could be developed to produce sufficient biomass for sustaining human consumption.

Insect fatty acids: A comparison of lipids from three Orthopterans and Tenebrio molitor L. larvae

        Aman Paul,Michel Frederich,Rudy Caparros Megido,Taofic Alabi,PriyankaMalik,Roel Uyttenbroeck,Frederic Francis,Christophe Blecker,Eric Haubruge,Georges Lognay,Sabine Danthine 한국응용곤충학회 2017 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.20 No.2

In order to explore some potential insect sources of food lipids, the lipid compositions of three Orthopterans (Acheta domesticus, Conocephalus discolor and Chorthippus parallelus) were analyzed and compared with those of Tenebrio molitor larvae. A. domesticus, Co. discolor, Ch. parallelus and T. molitor larvae were found to contain approximately 15%, 13%, 10% and 32% lipids on dryweight, respectively. The lipids fromthree Orthopterans contain much higheramounts of essential fatty acids than those of T.molitor larvae. The twoOrthopterans of the suborder Ensifera i.e., A. domesticus and Co. discolor contain linoleic acid inmajor quantities, while Ch. parallelus of the suborder Caelifera, contain α-linolenic acid in major quantities. The consumption of linoleic and α-linolenic fatty acid is linked with numerous health promoting effects. The factors that contribute to differences in fatty acid profiles of these insects are being discussed. At last the nutritional parameters including polyunsaturated to saturated and omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acid ratios of these insect lipids are also being discussed to understand the potential role of these lipids in human nutrition.

Olfactory responses of adult Potato Tuber Moth, Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) measured by attraction relative to the tomato leaf volatiles

        Aman Dekebo,Sunil Aryal,정철의 한국응용곤충학회 2019 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.22 No.2

The potato tuber moth (PTM) is an oligophagous herbivore and a severe pest of solanaceous crops in many countries of the world. Previously, we reported host expansion and damage potential of PTM on tomato, a congeneric crop of potato. Here we tested adult olfactory behaviour of PTM to leaves of five different cultivated tomato varieties including Moneymaker, Campari, Ailsa craig, LA3475 and E6203, and one wild species, Solanum pimpinellifolium. Tomato leaf hydro-distilled oils of Moneymaker, Campari, Ailsa craig, S. pimpinellifolium and E6203 showed strong attractiveness and LA3475 exhibited repulsiveness for adult PTM of both sexes in two-armed bioassays. Volatiles of Moneymaker, Campari, Ailsa Craig, S. pimpinellifolium and E6203 showed attractiveness for mated adult PTM of both sexes (> 70%). The extracted oil of all tomato leaves contains monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, diterpenes and C 6 alcohols as well as other components. Phytol is one of the common and major compounds in all tomato varieties. Phytol showed weak attractiveness: 60.8–63.6% and 57.6–60.6% for male and female PTM, respectively when tested at concentrations of 0.1–10 mg/mL. Therefore, the attractiveness of tomato leaf volatiles might be due to synergistic effects of plant volatile mixtures. Identification PTM attractant volatile in tomato leaf is important in its control in environmentally friendly manner.
