This text addresses the educational design(Bulla 2014) of Descomplicando o Celpe-Bras, an online course developed for the Guimaraes Rosa Institute. Over a period of more than twenty years, the Celpe-Bras has played a significant role as an instrument of language policy in the field of Portuguese as an additional language(PLA), influencing both educational processes and the agents involved in them(Ye 2009). The design of this course is based on the notion of speech genres(Bakhtin 1984), a theoretical assumption of the examination itself. First, we present the Celpe-Bras and its theoretical foundations. Subsequently, we demonstrate the course design, explaining the application of theoretical assumptions through the analysis of two of the fifteen lessons. The course proves to be an important tool for those who need to become familiar with its Bakhtinian theoretical construct through the examination.

This study analyzes how linguistic distance may influence the design of Portuguese as an Additional Language (PAL) textbooks at the beginner level, by comparing four materials published in Brazil and four in South Korea. The analysis focuses on: (a) the definition of learning content in the textbooks and its relationship with the CEFR; (b) the criteria for selecting content for the beginner level; (c) the pacing and progression of this content for learners; and (d) the strategies for selecting and addressing linguistic distance in the design of teaching materials. The results indicate that Brazilian textbooks assume greater proximity between learners’ linguistic repertoires and Portuguese, while South Korean materials adopt specific adaptations for learners whose first language is typologically distant, highlighting the relevance of linguistic distance in language teaching and materials design.

This study addresses the interaction in Portuguese as an Additional Language (PAL) instructional materials developed in South Korea for beginner learners at the A1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), drawing on Bakhtinian assumptions (Bakhtin, 1984; Bakhtine/Volochinov, 1977; Medvedev, 2008) applied to teaching. The two focal materials are the Material Didático Padronizado: Português A1 (포르투갈․브라질어 교재 A1) and Conversando em Português: Básico 1 - A1, both produced with state support from the Critical Language Education Promotion initiative. The analysis conducted focuses on three main aspects: i) identifying explicit or implicit theoreticalmethodological approaches in the manuals, ii) evaluating how exercises, activities, and tasks in the didactic units of these manuals either promote or limit interaction in the classroom, and iii) comparing how interaction occurs in these instructional materials. The examined manuals exhibit similarities in both addressed themes and teaching objectives. Regarding didactic-pedagogical proposals, the interaction is oriented towards the teaching and learning of language grammatical structures. Concerning the communication of statements from the material to PAL students, we observe that access to the Portuguese language is mediated in various ways: through more frequent use of the Korean language, Portuguese language, or both, varying between materials and occasionally between didactic units of the same material.

Since the 1980s, Portugal and Brazil have played an important role in spreading the Portuguese language abroad. According to Schoffen and Martins (2016), both countries reflect particular views of teaching, learning and assessment in Portuguese in their language policies. Throughout this work, we investigated the Task-based Language Teaching approach regarding the teaching perspectives presented in official documents and academic research, in order not only to elucidate the existing differences, but also to seek the dialogue among these educational policies for the teaching of Portuguese as an Additional Language (PAL). On the one hand, we investigated the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - CEFR (2011), given its transnational impact in a European and non-European context; on the other hand, we contemplate the Framework of Reference for Portuguese Teaching Abroad - QuaREPE (Portugal, 2011a), which was released in 2009, and the PLE Camões Framework , published in 2017. In both cases, these are national proposals for the internationalization of Portuguese that reflect the guidelines established by the CEFR. In the second part of this work, we dealt with the contemporary history of the development of the PAL area in Brazil, in its connection with three elements: (i) the teaching of other additional languages, (ii) the appearance of the Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese for Foreigners (Celpe-Bras), and (iii) Bakhtin Circle readings impact on Applied Linguistics in Brazil. Both immersed in the actional approach proposed by the CEFR – whose influence crosses Portuguese curricular guidelines –, and interpreted in Brazil, influenced by Celpe-Bras exam and research on the teaching of additional languages, the concept of tasks seems to be the gravitational center of current teaching concepts both in the European and Brazilian contexts.

Objectives: Digital health (DH) is a revolution driven by digital technologies to improve health. Despite the importance ofDH, curricular updates in healthcare university programs are scarce, and DH remains undervalued. Therefore, this reportdescribes the first Junior Scientific Committee (JSC) focusing on DH at a nationwide congress, with the aim of affirming itsimportance for promoting DH in universities. Methods: The scientific committee of the Brazilian Congress of Health Informatics(CBIS) extended invitations to students engaged in health-related fields, who were tasked with organizing a warm-upevent and a 4-hour session at CBIS. Additionally, they were encouraged to take an active role in a workshop alongside distinguishedexperts to map out the current state of DH in Brazil. Results: The warm-up event focused on the topic “Artificialintelligence in healthcare: is a new concept of health about to arise?” and featured remote discussions by three professionalsfrom diverse disciplines. At CBIS, the JSC’s inaugural presentation concentrated on delineating the present state of DH educationin Brazil, while the second presentation offered strategies to advance DH, incorporating viewpoints from within andbeyond the academic sphere. During the workshop, participants deliberated on the most crucial competencies for future professionalsin the DH domain. Conclusions: Forming a JSC proved to be a valuable tool to foster DH, particularly due to thevaluable interactions it facilitated between esteemed professionals and students. It also supports the cultivation of leadershipskills in DH, a field that has not yet received the recognition it deserves.

Background Under the adverse remodeling of the right ventricle and interventricular septum in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) the left ventricle (LV) dynamics is impaired. Despite the benefts of combined aerobic and resist‑ ance physical trainings to individuals with PAH, its impact on the LV is not fully understood. Objective To test whether moderate-intensity combined physical training performed during the development of PAH induced by MCT in rats is benefcial to the LV’s structure and function. Methods Male Wistar rats were divided into two groups: Sedentary Hypertensive Survival (SHS, n=7); and Exercise Hypertensive Survival (EHS, n=7) to test survival. To investigate the efects of combined physical training, another group of rats were divided into three groups: Sedentary Control (SC, n=7); Sedentary Hypertensive (SH, n=7); and Exercise Hypertensive (EH, n=7). PAH was induced through an intraperitoneal injection of MCT (60 mg/kg). Echocardiographic evaluations were conducted on the 22nd day after MCT administration. Animals in the EHS and EH groups participated in a combined physical training program, alternating aerobic (treadmill running: 50 min, 60% maximum running speed) and resistance (ladder climbing: 15 climbs with 1 min interval, 60% maximum carrying load) exercises, one session/day, 5 days/week for approximately 4 weeks. Results The physical training increased survival and tolerance to aerobic (i.e., maximum running speed) and resist‑ ance (i.e., maximum carrying load) exertions and prevented reductions in ejection fraction and fractional shortening. In addition, the physical training mitigated oxidative stress (i.e., CAT, SOD and MDA) and inhibited adverse LV remod‑ eling (i.e., Collagen, extracellular matrix, and cell dimensions). Moreover, the physical training preserved the ampli‑ tude and velocity of contraction and hindered the reductions in the amplitude and velocity of the intracellular Ca2+ transient in LV single myocytes. Conclusion Moderate-intensity combined physical training performed during the development of MCT-induced PAH in rats protects their LV from damages to its structure and function and hence increases their tolerance to physi‑ cal exertion and prolongs their survival.

The use of precast hollow-core slabs (PCHCS) in civil construction has been increasing due to the speed of execution and reduction in the weight of flooring systems. However, in the literature there are no studies that present a finite element model (FEM) to predict the load-slip relationship behavior of pushout tests, considering headed stud shear connector and PCHCS placed at the upper flange of the downstand steel profile. Thus, the present paper aims to develop a FEM, which is based on tests to fill this gap. For this task, geometrical non-linear analyses are carried out in the ABAQUS software. The FEM is calibrated by sensitivity analyses, considering different types of analysis, the friction coefficient at the steel-concrete interface, as well as the constitutive model of the headed stud shear connector. Subsequently, a parametric study is performed to assess the influence of the number of connector lines, type of filling and height of the PCHCS. The results are compared with analytical models that predict the headed stud resistance. In total, 158 finite element models are processed. It was concluded that the dynamic implicit analysis (quasi-static) showed better convergence of the equilibrium trajectory when compared to the static analysis, such as arc-length method. The friction coefficient value of 0.5 was indicated to predict the load-slip relationship behavior of all models investigated. The headed stud shear connector rupture was verified for the constitutive model capable of representing the fracture in the stress-strain relationship. Regarding the number of connector lines, there was an average increase of 108% in the resistance of the structure for models with two lines of connectors compared to the use of only one. The type of filling of the hollow core slab that presented the best results was the partial filling. Finally, the greater the height of the PCHCS, the greater the resistance of the headed stud.

Most oil from oceanic spills converges on coastal ecosystems, such as mangrove forests, which are threatened with worldwide disappearance. Particular bacteria that inhabit the rhizosphere of local plant species can stimulate plant development through various mechanisms; it would be advantageous if these would also be capable of degrading oil. Such bacteria may be important in the preservation or recuperation of mangrove forests impacted by oil spills. This study aimed to compare the bacterial structure, isolate and evaluate bacteria able to degrade oil and stimulate plant growth, from the rhizospheres of three mangrove plant species. These features are particularly important taking into account recent policies for mangrove bioremediation, implying that oil degradation as well as plant maintenance and health are key targets. Fifty-seven morphotypes were isolated from the mangrove rhizospheres on Bushnell-Haas (BH) medium supplemented with oil as the sole carbon source and tested for plant growth promotion. Of this strains, 60% potentially fixed nitrogen, 16% showed antimicrobial activity, 84% produced siderophores, 51% had the capacity to solubilize phosphate, and 33% produced the indole acetic acid hormone. Using gas chromatography, we evaluated the oil-degrading potential of ten selected strains that had different morphologies and showed Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) features. The ten tested strains showed a promising degradation profile for at least one compound present in the oil. Among degrader strains, 46% had promising PGPR potential, having at least three of the above capacities. These strains might be used as a consortium, allowing the concomitant degradation of oil and stimulation of mangrove plant survival and maintenance.
