DCNN Optimization Using Multi-Resolution Image Fusion

( Abdullah A. Alshehri ),( Adam Lutz ),( Soundararajan Ezekiel ),( Larry Pearlstein ),( And John Conlen ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2020 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.14 No.11

In recent years, advancements in machine learning capabilities have allowed it to see widespread adoption for tasks such as object detection, image classification, and anomaly detection. However, despite their promise, a limitation lies in the fact that a network’s performance quality is based on the data which it receives. A well-trained network will still have poor performance if the subsequent data supplied to it contains artifacts, out of focus regions, or other visual distortions. Under normal circumstances, images of the same scene captured from differing points of focus, angles, or modalities must be separately analysed by the network, despite possibly containing overlapping information such as in the case of images of the same scene captured from different angles, or irrelevant information such as images captured from infrared sensors which can capture thermal information well but not topographical details. This factor can potentially add significantly to the computational time and resources required to utilize the network without providing any additional benefit. In this study, we plan to explore using image fusion techniques to assemble multiple images of the same scene into a single image that retains the most salient key features of the individual source images while discarding overlapping or irrelevant data that does not provide any benefit to the network. Utilizing this image fusion step before inputting a dataset into the network, the number of images would be significantly reduced with the potential to improve the classification performance accuracy by enhancing images while discarding irrelevant and overlapping regions.

Esthetic outcome for maxillary anterior single implants assessed by different dental specialists.

        Abdullah Al-Dosari,Ra’ed Al-Rowis,Feras Moslem,Fahad Alshehri,Ahmed M. Ballo 대한치과보철학회 2016 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.8 No.5

PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to assess the esthetic outcome of maxillary anterior single implants by comparing the esthetic perception of dental professionals and patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twentythree patients with single implants in the esthetic zone were enrolled in this study. Dentists of four different dental specialties (Three orthodontists, three oral surgeons, three prosthodontists, and three periodontists) evaluated the pink esthetic score (PES)/white esthetic score (WES) for 23 implant-supported single restorations. The satisfactions of the patients on the esthetic outcome of the treatment have been evaluated according to the visual analog scale (VAS). RESULTS. The mean total PES/WES was 12.26 ± 4.76. The mean PES was 6.45 ± 2.78 and mean WES was 5.80 ± 2.82. There was a statistically significant difference among the different specialties for WES (P<.01) and Total PES/WES (P<.01). Prosthodontists were found to have assigned poorer ratings among the other specialties, while oral surgeons gave the higher ratings than periodontists, orthodontists, and prosthodontists. CONCLUSION. Prosthodontists seemed to be stricter when assessing aesthetic outcome among other specialties. Moreover, a clear correlation existed between dentists’ and patients’ esthetic perception, thereby providing rationales for involving patients in the treatment plan to achieve higher levels of patient satisfaction.

Assessment of effect of accelerated aging on interim fixed dental materials using digital technologies

        Omar Alageel,Omar Alsadon,Haitham Almansour,Abdullah Alshehri,Fares Alhabbad,Majed Alsarani 대한치과보철학회 2022 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.14 No.6

PURPOSE. This study assessed the physical and mechanical properties of interim crown materials fabricated using various digital techniques after accelerated aging. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Three groups of interim dental restorative materials (N = 20) were tested. The first group (CO) was fabricated using a conventional manual method. The second group (ML) was prepared from prefabricated resin blocks for the milling method and cut into specimensizes using a cutting disc. The third group (3D) was additively manufactured using a digital light-processing (DLP) 3D printer. Aging acceleration treatments using toothbrushing and thermocycling simulators were applied to half of the specimens corresponding to three years of usage in the oral environment (N = 10). Surface roughness (Ra), Vickers microhardness, 3-point bending, sorption, and solubility tests were performed. A 2-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Fisher’s multiple comparison test were used to compare the results among the groups. RESULTS. The mean surface roughness (Ra) of the resin after accelerated aging was significantly higher in the CO and ML groups than that before aging, but not in the 3D group. All groups showed reduced hardness after accelerated aging. The flexural strength values were highest in the 3D group, followed by the ML and CO groups after accelerated aging. Accelerated aging significantly reduced water sorption in the ML group. CONCLUSION. According to the tested material and 3D printer type, both 3D-printed and milled interim restoration resins showed higher flexural strength and modulus, and lower surface roughness than those prepared by the conventional method after accelerated aging.

Effects of the Rome IV Criteria to Functional Dyspepsia Symptoms in Saudi Arabia: Epidemiology and Clinical Practice

( Georgios Zacharakis ),( Sameer Al-ghamdi ),( Jamaan Alzahrani ),( Abdulaziz Almasoud ),( Omar Arahmane ),( Abdullah Alshehri ),( Moaz Hassan Alharbi ),( Manal Mahmood Alsalmi ),( Sultan Bander Aloti 대한소화기학회 2020 대한소화기학회지 Vol.76 No.6

Background/Aims: Limited data is available in Saudi Arabia (SA) regarding the prevalence of functional dyspepsia (FD) symptoms and its subtypes, as defined by the ROME IV criteria. This study evaluated the burden of self-reported FD symptoms in the adult general population of SA and the current clinical practices. Methods: A web-based national cross-sectional health survey of the general population of SA was conducted using the Rome IV Diagnostic Questionnaire for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders in Adults with additional questions on the presence of symptoms compatible with functional heartburn (FH) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The quality of life and somatization questionnaires were also included. Results: Overall, 3,114 adults completed the questionnaire, but 303 (9.7%) were excluded due to inconsistent responses. Of the 2,811 consistent responders, 532 (18.3%) fulfilled the Rome IV criteria for FD symptoms. These were distributed into the FD subtypes as follows: 208 (7.4%) had postprandial distress syndrome, 228 (8.1%) had epigastric pain syndrome, and 96 (3.4%) had the overlapping variant. IBS-like symptoms were reported in 232 (44%) and FH in 102 (19%) 19% (102) of the subjects with functional dyspepsia. H. pylori-associated dyspepsia was reported by 25% (87/348). High somatization, lower quality of life scores, younger age, and female sex were associated more with the FD symptoms participants than those without. Approximately 1/5 respondents used over-the-counter medications to relieve the FD symptoms. Conclusions: In this population-based survey, FD affected almost 1/5 of the responding adult population in SA, which was less than previously reported. (Korean J Gastroenterol 2020;76:304-313)

Synthesis of a recyclable mesoporous nanocomposite for efficient removal of toxic Hg2+ from aqueous medium

        Tansir Ahamad,Mu. Naushad,Basheer M. Al-Maswari,Jahangeer Ahmed,Zeid A. AlOthman,Saad M. Alshehri,Ayoub Abdullah Alqadami 한국공업화학회 2017 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.53 No.-

A mesoporous magnetic zirconium phosphate was prepared for the removal of Hg2+ from aqueous medium. The saturation magnetization of pure Fe3O4 and Fe3O4@ZrP was observed 82.9 and 62.4 emu/g, respectively. The effect of different adsorption parameters was studied. The kinetic data were fitted to the pseudo 1st and pseudo 2nd order models whereas the adsorption process was best fitted into the pseudo 2nd order model. The adsorption isotherm could be well described with Langmuir model, with the maximum adsorption capacity of 181.8 mg g1 at 25 C. Thus, the present studies suggested that Fe3O4@ZrP have remarkable potential for Hg2+ removal from contaminated water.

      • Antiproliferative Activity of the Methanolic Extract of Withania Somnifera Leaves from Faifa Mountains, Southwest Saudi Arabia, against Several Human Cancer Cell Lines

Alfaifi, Mohammad Yahya,Saleh, Kamel Ahmed,El-Boushnak, Mohammed Atallah,Elbehairi, Serag Eldin I,Alshehri, Mohammed Ali,Shati, Ali Abdullah Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.5

Cancer represent one of the most serious health problems and major causes of death around the world. Many anticancer drugs in clinical use today are natural products or derived from natural sources. Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal is a small shrub widely distributed in many parts of the world including Saudi Arabia. The antiproliferative activities of the methanolic extract of W. somnifera leaves collected from Faifa mountains, southwest Saudi Arabia against MCF-7, HCT116 and HepH2 cell lines were investigated. The extract showed a strong antiproliferative activity against all cell lines with $IC_{50}$ values of 3.35, 2.19 and $1.89{\mu}g/ml$, respectively. Flow cytometry results showed that the extract arrested the cell cycle at S phase, and the increase in the caspase 3 activity suggested that the extract could induce cell apoptosis by a caspase mediated pathway. These results demonstrated that the methanolic extract of W. somnifera leaves collected from Faifa mountains has comparable strong antiproliferative activities to samples collected from different locations.

        Akshay Chawla,Anita Sudhaik,Pankaj Raizada,Aftab Aslam Parwaz Khan,Archana Singh,Quyet Van Le,Van Huy Nguyen,Adem Sreedhar,Saad M. Alshehri,Abdullah M. Asiri,Pardeep Singh 한국공업화학회 2022 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.116 No.-

Not just people, but all living species, desire a clean and green environment to live a happy and healthylife. However, in our ever-increasingly congested world, it is quite challenging. Excessive deforestation, factory smoke, various chemical compounds, agricultural chemicals, etc. all pollute our environmentseverely. Some of its adverse consequences include water contamination and a shortage of energy supplies. In recent times, photocatalysts have sparked tremendous attention as a means of addressing energydemands as well as environmental challenges (water pollution). For this, SnO2 and SnO2 based photocatalystshave gained a great attention due to its good photocatalytic ability. In the same way, SnO2-based Zschemephotocatalysts has extended significant interest to address these concerns due to its strong photocatalyticcharacteristics, energy savings, eco-friendliness, and lack of adverse health effects. Though, thephotocatalytic effectiveness of conventional SnO2 semiconductors, with their shortcomings, falls wellshort of the real requirements. The current review emphasizes on admirable properties and several synthesisprocesses of SnO2 which make it an ideal photocatalyst. This study also stresses the fundamentalshortcomings of SnO2 that restrict its utilization. The central section of this review is concentrated onSnO2-based Z-scheme photocatalysts and most recent significant research modification of Z-schemeSnO2-based photocatalysts. The photocatalytic applications of Z-scheme SnO2-based photocatalysts forpollutants removal, energy conversion, and water splitting are also summarized. In conclusion, we haveaddressed the challenges and future exploration of SnO2-based photocatalysts with a Z-scheme heterojunctiontype for pollutant degradation and energy conversion.
