      • A combinatorial constraint satisfaction problem dichotomy classification conjecture

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>We further generalise a construction–the <I>fibre construction</I>–that was developed in an earlier paper of the first two authors. The extension in this paper gives a polynomial-time reduction of CSP(H) for any relational system H to CSP(P) for any relational system P that meets a certain technical partition condition, that of being <SUB>K3</SUB>-<I>partitionable</I>.</P><P>Moreover, we define an equivalent condition on P, that of being <I>block projective</I>, and using this show that our construction proves NP-completeness for exactly those CSPs that are conjectured to be NP-complete by the CSP dichotomy classification conjecture made by Bulatov, Jeavons and Krohkin, and by Larose and Zádori. We thus provide two new combinatorial versions of the CSP dichotomy classification conjecture.</P><P>As with our previous version of the fibre construction, we are able to address restricted versions of the dichotomy conjecture. In particular, we reduce the Feder–Hell–Huang conjecture to the CSP dichotomy classification conjecture, and we prove the Kostochka–Nešetřil–Smolíková conjecture. Although these results were proved independently by Jonsson et al. and Kun respectively, we give different, shorter, proofs.</P>

        Evaluation of ultrasonography as a diagnostic tool in the management of periapical cysts and granulomas: A clinical study

        Purpose: The aim of this study was, firstly, to determine the concordance of ultrasonographic and histopathological diagnoses in patients in whom apical resection was already indicated. Secondly, this study aimed to determine whether lesions were periapical granulomas or cysts, and to compare them after root canal treatment using ultrasonography and periapical radiographs. Materials and Methods: In the first stage of the study, ultrasonographic and histopathologic diagnoses of 10 lesions were compared. Secondly, the periapical radiographs and ultrasonographic images of 44 lesions were measured. The presence of internal vascularity was determined by ultrasonographic color and power Doppler modes. Follow-up examinations of healing after root canal treatment were performed using ultrasonography and periapical radiographs, and these modalities were compared. Results: In the periapical granuloma and cyst groups, the measurement values decreased for all variables. There was no significant difference in the dimensional changes of lesions between the 2 groups, and ultrasonography and periapical radiographs were compatible. The pre-diagnoses were compared with histopathological diagnoses and were found to be compatible. Conclusion: The ultrasonographic color and power Doppler techniques could be an effective method for diagnosing periapical lesions as cysts or granulomas. After root canal treatment of granulomas and cysts, the dimensional shrinkage and healing patterns appear to be similar. Ultrasonography and periapical radiographs were consistent in terms of dimensional comparisons, and ultrasonography may be an alternative method for follow-up of the healing of periapical lesions

        Antioxidant Activity, Phenolic Content, and Peroxide Value of Essential Oil and Extracts of Some Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Used as Condiments and Herbal Teas in Turkey

        The antioxidant activity, total peroxide values, and total phenol contents of several medicinal and aromatic plant essential oil and extracts from Turkey were examined. Total phenolic contents were determined using a spectrophotometric technique and calculated as gallic acid equivalents. Total antioxidant activity of essential oil and extracts varied from 0.6853 to 1.3113 and 0.3189 to 0.6119 μmol of Trolox equivalents/g, respectively. The total phenolic content of essential oil ranged from 0.0871 to 0.5919 mg of gallic acid/g dry weight. However, the total phenolic contents of extracts were found to be higher compared with those of essential oils. The amount of total peroxide values of oils varied from 7.31 (pickling herb) to 58.23 (bitter fennel flower) μmol of H2O2/g. As a result, it is shown that medicinal plant derivatives such as extract and essential oils can be useful as a potential source of total phenol, peroxide, and antioxidant capacity for protection of processed foods.

        Behçet's disease is an idiopathic systemic vasculitis which manifests with recurrent oral or genital ulcer, various skin lesions and ocular lesions. The strategies of treatment for Behçet's disease frequently include various immunosuppressants, such as systemic steroids, azathioprine, cyclosporine A, cyclophosphamide, and infliximab. These immunosuppressive agents attenuate the cell-medicated immunity of hosts and predispose them to the development of tuberculosis. Cases in which pulmonary tuberculosis, intestinal tuberculosis, and tuberculous meningoencephalitis are developed in Behçet's disease patients who had been taking immunosuppressive drugs, including corticosteroids, are frequently reported worldwide. However, no case has been reported in which tuberculous lymphadenitis was concurrently diagnosed with Behçet's disease, especially in a patient who is not under immunosuppressive therapy. We describe here the case of a 28-year-old woman presenting fever who was simultaneously diagnosed as having Behçet's disease and tuberculous cervical lymphadenitis.

        Performance Study of Small Capacity Solar Autonomous Absorption Air-Conditioning System Coupled with a Low-Energy Residential Building Under Batna (Algeria) Climate

        Solar absorption cooling technology has enormous potential for air-conditioning applications as the need for cooling coincides mostly with the availability of solar radiation. Due to the geographical nature and vast territory of Algeria and the presence of many isolated rural areas, there is a great need for autonomous systems that use only solar energy without auxiliary boiler to meet the cooling demand in summer. In this study, we propose a dynamic simulation model for solar autonomous absorption air-conditioning systems developed using the TRNSYS-EES software. The model used to study the feasibility and evaluate the functioning of the system under Batna, Algeria weather conditions. The proposed system uses solar thermal flat plate collectors to drive a small capacity single-effect LiBr/water absorption chiller to meet the cooling demand of a typical low-energy residential building covering a total floor area of 120 m2. A model of 4.5 kW commercial absorption chiller has been modeled with EES software. The validation results showed excellent agreement between the prediction and the experimental data (R 2 >0.988 R2>0.988) and proved the model ability to predict the performance of the chiller. The analysis of dynamic results indicates that the proposed system and selected size enable the chiller to work for a duration of up to 10 h a day. This allowed ensuring a sufficient and continuous cold water supply (between 8 ∘ ∘C and 18 ∘ ∘C) and maintaining the comfort temperature between 26 ∘ ∘C and 28 ∘ ∘C.

        Comparison of the pericapsular nerve group block with the intra-articular and quadratus lumborum blocks in primary total hip arthroplasty: a randomized controlled trial

        Background: The pericapsular nerve group (PENG) block, quadratus lumborum block (QLB), and intra-articular (IA) local anesthetic injection have been shown to provide effective analgesia in total hip arthroplasty (THA). This randomized study aimed to compare the analgesic efficacy, motor protection, and quality of recovery associated with the PENG block, QLB, and IA injection.Methods: Eighty-nine patients who underwent a unilateral primary THA under spinal anesthesia were randomly assigned to the PENG (n=30), QLB (n=30), or IA (n=29) group. The primary outcome was the numerical rating scale (NRS) score over the first 48 h postoperatively. The secondary outcomes were postoperative opioid consumption, quadriceps and adductor muscle strength, and quality of recovery (QoR-40). Results: The dynamic (with movement) NRS scores at 3 and 6 h postoperatively were significantly lower in the PENG and QLB groups compared to the IA group (P = 0.002 and P < 0.001, respectively). The time to first opioid analgesia requirement was longer in the PENG and QLB groups than in the IA group (P = 0.009 and P = 0.016, respectively). A provided better preservation was found in the the PENG group than in the QLB group in terms of quadriceps muscle strength at 3 h postoperatively (P = 0.007) and time to mobilization (P = 0.003). No significant differences in the QoR-40 scores were seen. Conclusions: The PENG and QLB groups showed similar analgesic effects and both showed more effective analgesia 6 h postoperatively than the IA group. All the groups showed similar postoperative quality of recovery.

        This study seeks to differentiate between the air quality of the smoking area and the non-smoking area in internet cafes(or PC rooms in Korean slang) through the analysis of internet cafes around universities located in Asan-si. VOCs, HCHO, CO₂, and CO content of each area were analyzed. According to our observations, the HCHO content in the smoking area was 74.26ppm, 124.26ppm for TVOC, 688.58ppm for CO₂, and 2.80ppm for CO. On the contrary, in the non-smoking area, the HCHO content was 55.49ppm, 82.86ppm for TVOC, 606.18ppm for CO₂, and 2.32ppm for CO. This shows that the air quality between non-smoking and the smoking area do not have significant difference. As people are exposed and thus more interested about indoor air pollution, there are measures taken to clean the air indoors, but there are no relevant measures taken for internet cafes. Therefore, there should be measures taken in order to control ETS content, thought to be one of the main pollutants of internet cafe air quality, through various measures such as upgraded ventilation.
