This paper will present an epidemiological information aspects of Japanese encephalitis in Korea of the past ten years from 1971 to 1980 and the medical statistical observation on the relative factor of Japanese encephalitis. It hoped that the information will be used for reference in future endeavors of study in the follows: The obtained results were as follows: 1. The mean of the incidence cases of Japanese encephalitis in Korea from 1971 to 1980 was 94.2±24.6(S.E.), that of incidence rate per 100,000 was 0.26±0.07 (S.E.) and that of case fatality rate was 3.6±0.89 per 100 cases. 2. The highest incidence cases of Japanese encephalitis could be found in younger whose age under 19 years old, which accounted 96% of the total incidence cases. 3. The correlation coefficient between the incidence cases of Japanese encephalitis and number of vaccinated in man was r=-0.416, its and pesticide consumtion amount was r=-0.432 and its and number of pig vaccinated was r=-0.485. 4. Correlation coefficient between year after imported and positive rate of HI test of Japanese encephalitis was r=+0.976.
돼지의 유구낭충(有鉤囊蟲)에 관(關)한 혈청학적시험(血淸學的試驗)

The agar gel precipitation(AGP), indirect hemagglutination(IHA) and indirect enzyme immunoassay(IEIA) tests were used to detect antibodies in pigs naturally infected with Cysticercus cellulosae in Jeju. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. Sera collected from pigs naturally infected with Cysticcrcus cellulosae did not react in AGP test. 2. In the IHA test for swine cysticercosis, the peak titers observed were between 1:20 and 1:160 and non-specific reaction was recognized with a few samples among control sera. 3. In the IEIA test, optical density(OD) values were obtained the best results under the condition of OPD-substrats are reacted at room temperature for 5minutes. The OD values of greater than 0.2 were determined as positive and the high titers in positive sera ranged from 1:40 to 1:1,080. 4. Antibodies to swine cysticercosis were detected by IHA and IEIA tests but the latter was more sensitive and specific than the former. 5. In the preparation of Cystisercus antigens, saline extract which was prepared the precipitate of internal membrane treated ultrasonicator were better results than other antigens for serological tests. 6. Amounts of protein in antigens was not related in direct proportion to results of serological reaction.

Mycobacteria의 Fructus Gardenia에 依한 春色性에 對한 硏究

The pigment extracted from fructus gardenia (Fruits of Gardenia florida Linne) was incorporated into the Lo¨wenstein-Jensen medium and varicus species of mycobacteria were tested on that medium. The ability to convert yellow pigment of fructus gardenia to blue-black color of myocobacteria was been investigated. Colonies of the positive strains have been appeared as blue-black color, if the strains are non-chromogenic, while positive chromogenic mycobacteria showed a green color rather than blue-black. Prolonged incubation usually enhanced the pigmentation of colonies. Tlle results obtained are as follow : 1.Typical pathogens such as M. tuberculosis, M. bovis, & M. ulcerans showed positive reactioon at a time of growth appearence, however B. C. G. (an avirulent mutant of M. bovis) showed negative reaction up to 5th week observation. 2.Photochromogens (M. marinum, & M. kansasii) arid scotochromogens (M. scroflaceum & M. gordonae) showed a positive reaction usually after appearence of growth. 3.Among the nonchromogenic mycobacteria M. avium, M. intracelluae, M. gastri, & M. nonchromognicum showed a positive reaction but M. xenopel, M. terrae, M. triviale showed a negative reaction. 4.From the rapid growing mycobacteria, only M. fortuitum showed a positive reaction. Negative reactors were M. phlei, M. smegmatis, M. vaccae, M. flavescens.
