          펜틸렌테트라졸 투여 흰쥐에서의 천마의 항경련 작용기전

          Gastrodia elata (GE) is a oriental medicinal herb which has been used traditionally for the treatment of various brain diseases including convulsion and epilepsy. In order to examine the mechanism of anticonvulsive effect, we treated the methanol extract of GE (500mg/kg, P.0) to the pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-induced convulsive rats. Methanol extracts of GE significantly inhibited (35%) the convulsion state as well as the level of lipid peroxidation (25%) in the brain. The ether fraction of methanol extracts among the others effectively ibhibited in vitro lipid peroxidation dose dependently (5.OX10-6 - 2.OX1O-5g/ml). The scavenging effect on hydroxy radicals was found in all the fractions of ether, butanol, and dichloromethane. These results suggest that the anticonvulsive effect of GE is possibly due to the antioxidative effects of the active components in GE.

          3ㆍ4학년 초등영어 검정교과서의 문화지도내용 분석 및 언어-문화 통합지도 방안

          The purpose of this study is to analyze the cultural contents of the 3rd and 4th grade authorized elementary English textbooks, and to provide a useful guide for effective culture education in English education. The analysis of cultural contents was conducted in terms of four aspects: 1) the quantity of culture education, 2) activity types of teaching and learning, 3) types of culture, and 4) relations to the major considerations in teaching elementary students. The results of the study revealed several findings as follows. First, current English textbooks do not include enough content for teaching culture. Second, they provide limited types of teaching and learning activities. Third, there is no needed connection between 3rd and 4th grades in three types of culture, which are products, behaviors, and ideas. Fourth, the relation between language learning and culture learning is relatively lower than other major considerations in teaching culture. Based on the findings, the study provides a language-culture integrated teaching model. In addition, several suggestions are made for teaching culture in elementary English curriculum.

          Xanthine oxidase 활성 및 형전환에 미치는 구리이온의 영향

          Copper intoxication and disturbance of copper metabolism induced various oxygen- derived free radicals related damages. The effect of copper ion on xanthine oxidase activity and type conversion of the enzyme which is concerned to generation of reactive oxygen species, was investigated. It was observed that xanthine oxidase activity was increased by addition of copper ion in the reaction mixture in proportional to the concentration of the metal ion until 60 mcM while the enzyme activity was inhibited in higher concentration of copper treatment. On the other hand, xanthine dehydrogenase activity was inhibited by copper ion addition with concentration dependently. Preincubation of enzyme source with 30 mcM of copper ion, which concentration marked increased the xanthine oxidase activity, unchanged the enzyme activity and type conversion compare to control in vitro system. It was also observed that copper induced xanthine oxidase activity and the enzyme type conversion was protected by dithiothreitol and penicillamine. These results indicate that the increment of the type conversion of xanthine oxidase necessarilly need the presence of copper ion in enzyme assay system.

          CMC in English Classrooms: Beyond Language Learning

          The purpose of this study is to explore the learning opportunities that computer-mediated communication (CMC) provides for ESL students in terms of other areas of learning such as affective domains besides language learning itself. Twelve ESL students participated in a CMC activity with twelve pre-service teachers who were individual discussion partners. The qualitative method was used for deep understanding of the research inquiries. Data include electronic discussion, detailed teacher observation and student survey. Data show that most students perceived the learning experience in the CMC environment positively. The findings imply that CMC use in English classrooms can provide several benefits to ESL students beyond English language learning. This study is a call for language teachers and researchers to be more concerned about other components related to language learning in CALL classrooms. (Hannam University)

          Bridging Home and School : U. S. Teachers" Perspectives of Korean Parents and ESL Education

            이 연구는 한국학생을 가르친 경험이 있는 미국 초등학교 교사가 가진 한국 부모에 대한 인식 및 ESL교육에 대한 인식을 알아보기 위해 수행되었으며 5명의 미국 공립초등학교 1학년 교사들이 연구에 참여하였다. 자료는 두 세 차례에 걸친 심층인터뷰를 통해 수집되었으며, 인터뷰내용은 녹음되어 그대로 전사된 후 목록화 되었다. 자료의 계속적인 분석 작업을 통해 도출된 주제들은: (1) 미국교사들의 한국 부모의 역할에 대한 인식; (2) 그들 자신이 인식하는 교사로서의 역할; (3) 한국부모와의 관계; (4) ESL교육에 관한 인식의 네 가지로 분류되었다. 연구결과 미국의 초등교사들은 한국 ESL학생의 부모에 대해 긍정적이며 호의적으로 인식하고 있었으며, 한국 부모들이 그들의 자녀와 교사ㆍ학교에 대해 기대하는 바를 알고 싶어 하였다. ESL학생을 가르치는 담임교사로서 자신의 역할에 대하여는 한국 학생의 수준에 맞는 수업내용을 제공함과 동시에 한국 문화를 수용하는 교육환경을 조성하는 것이라 인식하고 있었으나 구체적인 실천방법에 있어서는 한계를 느끼고 있었다. 셋째, 한국 부모와의 관계에 있어서 교사들은 의사소통 및 문화적 차이에서 오는 어려움을 인식하고 있었다. 마지막으로, 그들은 ESL교육과 관련한 교사교육 기회 확대의 필요성을 느끼고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구의 결과들은 초등학생 자녀를 미국에서 교육시키고 있는 한국 부모들에게 미국교사들과의 보다 발전된 관계형성에 도움이 되는 정보를 제공할 것이다. 또한 다문화 가정이 빠르게 증가하고 있는 한국사회에서 한국의 초등교사들에게 외국인 부모와 그 자녀들이 직면할 수 있는 어려움에 대하여 이해할 수 있는 기회를 제공해 줄 것이다.   This study is designed to explore the United States teachers" perspectives on the parents of Korean students. Five first grade teachers who worked at three public elementary schools were Interviewed by open-ended and semi-structured questionnaires The Interview data were tape-recorded and later transcribed verbatim Throughout the data analysis process four major themes emerged In terms of the teachers" perspectives of. (1) Korean parents, (2) their roles as a teacher of Korean ESL students, (3) the relationship between teachers and Korean parents, and (4) ESL education The findings revealed that the teachers had positive and favorable perceptions on their Korean parents and wanted to know and meet the parents" expectation on them. Second, the teachers perceived their role as a provider of scaffolded lessons and multicultural environments for Korean students. Next, they were aware of the gaps In communication and culture with the Korean parents Finally, they perceived the need of teacher training opportunities for better understanding of their ESL students and families The findings provide Important Information and suggestions for Korean parents who educate their children In the U S In addition, Implications are made for Korean teachers who have multicultural family students in their classrooms.

          양뇌활용 초등영어 수업모형 개발 및 수업모형의 효과에 관한 연구

          The purpose of this study was to develop the both sides of the brain utilized instruction model for elementary school students to help their balanced brain development through English lessons. The study also intended to prove the effectiveness of the instruction model. To achieve the research purposes, elementary school English textbooks were analyzed in terms of the types of brain activities, i. e. left, right, and middle brain centered, and the both sides of the brain utilized instruction model was developed based on the result of textbook analysis. Then, the model was applied to a fifth grade class for a year. The results of this study are as follows: the English textbooks include left brain centered activities the most; a both sides of the brain utilized English instruction model was developed by focusing on the balanced brain development of elementary school students; the students'overall English ability was improved and some students' brain hemisphere preference was dramatically changed. In addition, the result of a post survey revealed that most students were satisfied with the learning experience. The results imply the need for brain balanced English instruction for elementary school students.

          Lipid peroxidation mediated by hydroxyl radicals which are generated during myocardial ischemia has been suggested as a possible mechanism of ischemic myocardial damage. Recently, it has been reported that anti-arrhythmic action of lidocaine, a local anesthetic, is attributed to its "membrane-stabilizing" properties through scavenging free radicals, thus, inhibiting lipid peroxidation. Aldehyde oxidase and xanthine oxidase which catalyze the oxidation of many purine, pyrimidine and pteridine derivatives are known as free radical generating systems. In this experiment, we studied the effect of lidocaine and procainamide on the hepatic aldehyde and xanthine oxidase activity and antioxidative activities. It was found that lidocaine and procainamide inhibited both NADPH-dependent and -independent lipid peroxidation. Both of tested compounds were found to be ineffective in inhibiting xanthine oxidase. Lidocaine and procainamide, however, inhibited aldehyde oxidase activity in vitro as well as in vivo. Based on the above results, lidocaine and procainamide could be employed as a theraepeutic agent for aldehyde oxidase-related disease.

          초등영어회화 전문강사의 수업 전문성 신장을 위한 연수방안 연구

          The purpose of this study was to explore the elementary English conversation instructors' perception on their professionalism and the needs of teacher training program. The survey data were attained from 136 elementary English conversation instructors. Descriptive statistics were employed to discuss the result of the survey response. The results of this study revealed that the elementary English conversation instructors perceived the need of in-service training program for their professionalism improvement, especially in teaching techniques for four language skills. The result also revealed that the instructors need to be more equipped with the knowledge of elementary learners' developmental psychology and L2 learning process. The study concludes with several suggestions for elementary English conversation instructors' improvement of teaching professionalism and in-service training program.
