Our U-health monitoring system based on ZigBee network was subject to communication noise as well as potential interferences due to the fact that the 2.4 - 2.5 GHz ISM band was shared by various devices. In this study, a forward error correction (FEC) algorithm was applied in order to reduce communication errors. 8-byte interleaving and Hamming coding was used and errors in real-time monitoring of electrocardiogram and photoplethysmogram were successfully reduced. Currently, the application of this algorithm was limited to certain types of errors and further studies will be continued.
