Objectives The purpose of this study is to report a case showed significant consult in treating Idiopathic chronic hyperventilation patient with oriental medicine. Methods The patient had suffered from dysypnea for 7 months, so we treated her with herbal medicine, acupuncture, laser, CEP nebulizer and cupping. Results and Conclusions This study shows that oriental medicine works for treating Idiopathic chronic hyperventilation. For more accurate studies, further studies are needed with more clinical cases.
토끼 모델에서 탈미네랄화된 골분을 함유한 PLGA 지지체를 이용한 조직공학적 골 재생

Demineralized bone particle (DBP), one of the significant natural bioactive materials, has a powerful inducer of new bone growth. It has been recognized that DBP contains many kinds of osteogenic and chondrogenic cytokines as bone morphogenic protein (BMP). BMP acts as local mitogen to stimulate proliferation of mesenchymal stem cell. Bone marrow stromal cell (BMSCs) can be differentiated in culture into osteoblasts, chondrocytes, and myoblasts with controlling of the environment of cell growth. In this study, we developed the DBP loaded poly(L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) scaffolds for the possibility of the application of the tissue engineered bone. PLGA/DBP scaffolds were prepared by solvent casting/salt leaching method and characterized by porosimeter, scanning electron microscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry. BMSCs were isolated from femur of New Zealand white rabbit and cultured with osteo-medium for osteogenic differentiation. DBP impregnated PLGA scaffolds with BMSCs were implanted into the head and femur of New Zealand white rabbit to observe the effect of DBP on the osteoinduction compared with control scaffolds. Thin sections were cut from paraffin embedded tissues and histological sections were stained hematoxylin & eosin and safranin-O. It can be observed that the porosity was above 94.6% and the pore size was above 69.8 ?m. In vivo study, we could observe that similar to bone tissue region in PLGA/BMSCs and PLGA/BMSCs/DBP groups, but bone tissue region did not occur almost in control scaffolds. From these results, it seems that DBP play an important role for bone induction on BMSCs.
전호(前胡)가 Bleomycin에 의한 폐 섬유화에 미치는 영향

Objectives : Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is chronic fibrotic interstitial pneumonia and the pathogenesis is unknown. Peucedani Radix is well-known for the treatment of respiratory diseases and pulmonary hypertension. This study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Peucedani Radix on the bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis model (BLFM) in mouse. Methods : We induced lung fibrosis by intratracheal instillation of bleomycin in C57BL/6J. We compared two groups BLFM without Peucedani Radix (group I) and BLFM with Peucedani Radix (group II). We performed bronchoalveolar lavages (BAL) and obtained lung specimens from both group I and II on the 7th (A) and 21st (B) day, and also for the normal group. We compared with group I and II to find BAL by using ANOVA test and to find pathologic symptoms by using semiquantitative histological index (SHI). Results : In BAL, total cell counts, lymphocytes, and neutrophils was increased in both group I and II comparing with normal group. However, lymphocyte level was decreased more in group IIB than group IB. It was statistically significant. In microscopic findings, scores of SHI in normal group, group IB and IIB were 0.33, 4.47, and 1.96 each. Conclusions : Peucedani Radix might have inhibitory effect on lung fibrosis by reducing inflammatory cells in bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis model in mouse.

Objectives : The object of this study was to evaluate the effect of oriental medical treatment to the growth of children using bone age as measurer. Methods : This clinical study has been carried out with 32 cases(male 15, female 17 of children) aging from 7 to 15 years old, who visited to the Department of Pediatrics growth clinic, ○○ medical center from January 2004 to August 2006 and were treated for more than 12 months. Their height, body weight, body mass index(BMI) and bone age were estimated at two points: Before and after oriental medical treatment was applied. Bone age is measured by X-ray image of growth plate in inferior radiocarpal joint. Results : Bone age correlated with choronological age, height, weight. Difference between bone and choronological age was correlated with percentile of height and weight. The mean growth of children showed 4.03 percentile upwardly(p=.046), and difference between bone and choronological age was reduced from $0.23{\pm}1.62$ to $-0.026{\pm}1.64(p=.040)$ after treatment. Conclusions : This study shows that oriental medical treatment helped growth of children using bone age as measurer.

NiO/YSZ(70 wt%NiO) composite powders were prepared by ball-milling of 8YSZ and NiO precursors, dried and then followed by calcination. The approach was to combine acidic $Ni(NO_3)_2{\cdot}6H_2O$ and basic $2NiCO_3{\cdot}3Ni(OH)_2{\cdot}4H_2O$ via acid-base reaction as a mixed NiO precursor. Their effects were studied in the aspects of DSC, microstructure, porosity, and electrical conductivity. Ni/YSZ composite of 1N9C (1 mole NiO from the nitrate and 9 moles of NiO from the carbonate) was prepared by consolidation at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 3 h, and then followed by reduction at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 3 h under flowing of 6% $H_2/N_2$. It showed a homogeneous microstructure with ${\sim}20%$ porosity and 1880 S/cm at $1000^{\circ}C$.
Effects of HyangsosanGamibang on the $PPAR{\gamma}$ in the bronchial asthma mouse model

목적 : OVA에 유도된 천식 쥐 모델에 향소산가미방을 투여한 후 $PPAR{\gamma}$의 변화를 조사하여 향소산가미방의 천식 치료 기전을 알아보고자 하였다. 대상 및 방법 : 8주된 암컷 BALB/c 마우스에 첫 날과 14일 후에 20 ${\mu}g$의 OVA를 알루미니윰 하이드록사이드 1mg과 혼합한 후 총 200 ${\mu}g$를 복강 내로 주입하여 감작시켰다. 처음 감작시킨 날로부터 21,22,23일 후에 천식 모델에 사용하는 초음파 분무기를 이용하여 세 번째 감작시켜서 천식 마우스 모델을 만들었다. 천식 마우스 모델을 만드는 기간 중 OVA를 복강 내로 주입한 후 19일째에 24시간의 간격으로 향소산가미방을 7일 동안 경구 투여하여 향소산가미방의 효과를 조사하였다. 기관지폐포세척술은 마지막 감작 후 72시간 후에 실행하고 기관지폐포 세척액의 총 세포수를 측정하였다. $PPAR{\gamma}$의 발현은 천식 마우스 모델의 폐와 향소산가미방을 투여한 마우스 모델의 폐를 적출한 후 Western blotting 방법을 아용하여 측정하였다. 병리 조직학적 검사는 hematoxylin 2 and eosin-Y 염색을 이용하여 조사하였다. 결과 : 정상 군과 비교하여 OVA감작 천식 쥐 모델에서는 72시간 후에 총 세포 수가 증가하였다. 특히 OVA감작 천식 군에서 증가된 호산구의 수가 향소산가미방을 투여 한 쥐 군에서는 유의하게 감소하였다. OVA감작 천식 쥐 모델에서 72시간 후에 정상 군과 비교하여 핵 내에서의 $PPAR{\gamma}$단백질의 발현이 약간 증가하였다. 그러나 향소산가미방을 투여한 쥐 모델에서는 세포질과 핵 내에서 $PPAR{\gamma}$단백질의 발현이 유의하게 증가하였다. 조직학적 검사상 정상 군과 비교하여 OVA 감작된 천식 쥐 모델에서는 폐포, 세기관지, 기도내강 주변에 많은 염증 세포들이 있었다. 그러나 가미향소산 을 투여 한 후에는 염증 세포들이 유의하게 감소하였다. 결론 : 가미향소산은 $PPAR{\gamma}$작용제로서 역할을 하며, 천식에 대한 치료제 또는 예방제를 개발하는 데 후보 물질이 될 것으로 사료된다.
PLGA/DBP 하이브리드지지체와 섬유륜세포 및 수핵세포를 이용한 바이오디스크의 재생

We fabricated poly(lactide-co-glycolide)(PLGA) scaffolds impregnated 0, 10, 20, 40, and 80 wt% demieneralized bone particle(DBP)(PLGA/DBP) to investigate the effect of cell viability and proliferation of intervertebral disc(IVD) cells. PLGA is a biodegradable synthetic polymer with acceptable mechanical strength and well-controlled degradation rate. DBP contains bioactive molecules. Annulus fibrosus(AF) and nucleus pulposus (NP) cells were seeded in PLGA and PLGA/DBP scaffold to evaluate mRNA expression and a proliferation of AF and NP cells according to content of DBP. Cellular viability and proliferation were assayed by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazole- 2-l)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium-bromide(MTT) test. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) was assessed to measure mRNA expression for Type I collagen and Type II collagen of IVD cells in scaffolds. Scaffolds were implanted in subcutaneous of athymic nude mouse for histology in vivo. The formation of disc-like tissue appeared in PLGA/DBP scaffold than control. Especially, 40 and 80 wt% of DBP positively affected to proliferation and maintenance of phenotype in scaffold. These information would contribute to design of PLGA/DBP scaffold for tissue engineered IVD regeneration.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report a case of nine-year-old female pediatric patient who had diagnosed as mesenteric lymphadenitis with abdominal pain. Methods : The patient was treated by acupunture (acupoint: Hegu(LI4), Zusanli(S36), Zhongwan(CV12), Tianshu (S25)), indirect moxibustion and herb medicine (Koakhyangjeonggisan-kamibang, Jakyakgamchotang Ex) for one week. We observed clinical progress. Result and conclusions : After oriental medical treatment, symptoms of mesenteric lymphadenitis (day and night abdominal pain, diarrhea) were improved. This study showed that oriental medicine can be a meaningful treatment for mesenteric lymphadenitis. For more accurate studies, further treatment cases would be needed.
