The findings of this research can be summarized like this. 1) The researcher conducted a questionnaire research designed to improve the national certification test system for dental hygienists. As a result, the subjects responded that it is necessary to adjust the testing subject matters for the testing subjects are thought to be inappropriate. In particular, those who work for universities feel the need much more than the rest of the subjects. The older the subjects were, the longer they worked, the more they needed the subject matters to be changed. 2) The subjects thought that the subject matters of the national dental hygienist certification test coincide with the educational aims of the test. They responded that the test highlights the memory-testing questions, thinking that the difficulties of the test are relatively right and professional. 3) The survey shows that it is absolutely necessary to provide professors with training with a view to enhancing the validity and reliability of the national test. 4) The survey indicates that such subject matters as introduction to dental biology, dental-clinic studies, introduction to dental hygiene studies, medical laws, and dental radiology in the right order. When compared with the case of Canada, Korea turned out to adjust such areas as introduction to hygiene and dental clinic studies. 5) The national certification system of Korea is similar to that of Canada in terms of its form, but they differ from each other in terms of the contents and composition. 6) Compared with the national test of Canada, the testing system of Korea finds it hard to evaluate the applicants' abilities to manage dental hygiene tasks. It naturally follows that the current certification system should be urgently improved.
