        젖소의 신성수정란의 동결수정란의 비외과적 이식에 관하여

        Sixty Four fresh and 142 frozen embryos of dairy cattle were transferred to synchronized dairy, beef or Korean Native Cattle nonsurgically at National Animal Breeding Institute from 1985 to 1990. The results obtained were as follows ; 1. The pregnancy rate of fresh embryos(39.1%) was higher than that of frozen embryos(32.4%) and average pregnancy rate was 34.5%. 2. The pregnancy rate of grade 1 embryos was higher than that of grade 2 embryos for both fresh(41.3% vs 33.3%) and frozen embryos(35.4% vs 25.6%). 3. The pregnancy rate according to development stage of fresh embryos was increased with maturity as 29.2%, 33.3%, 50.0% and 54.5% for morula, early blastocyst, blastocyst and expanded blastocyst, respectively. For frozen embryos, the pregnancy rate of blastocyst(44.4%) was higher than those of morula(31.3%) and early blastocyst(28.0%). 4. The pregnancy rate according go recipient-donor synchrony for fresh embryos was higher when the recipients exhibited estrus 1 day earlier than the donors(43.8%) than when the recipients exhibited estrus 1 day later than the donors(38.1%) or when the recipients and donors exhibited estrus at the same time(37.0%). For forzen embryos, the pregnancy rate was decreased when the recipients and donors exhibited estrus at the same time(37.9%), when the recipients exhibited estrus 1 day later than the donors(32.0%) and when the recipients exhibited estrus 1 day earlier than the donors(23.5%), in sequence. 5. The pregnancy rate of heifers was higher than that of cows for both fresh(50.5% vs 37.9%) and frozen embryos(39.7% vs 25.7%). 6. The pregnancy rate according to recipient breed for fresh embryos was higher in dairy cattle(42.1%) and beef cattle(40.%) than in Korean Native Cattle(33.3%). For frozen embryos, the pregnancy rate was decreased beef cattle(39.1%), dairy cattle(30.3%) and Korean Native Cattle(14.3%), in sequence. 7. The pregnancy rate according to equilibrium steps of glycerol and freezing rate was higher when transferred after 3-steps equilibrium and freezing by the rate of $0.3^{\circ}C$/min from $-6^{\circ}C$ to $-35^{\circ}C$ and $0.1^{\circ}C$/min to $-38^{\circ}C$(39.4%) than when transferred after 6-steps equilibrium and freezing by the rate of $0.5^{\circ}C/min$ from $-6^{\circ}C$ to $-30^{\circ}C$(30.3%).

        국내 자연 방사선 고준위 지역(청원군, 보은군) 사육 돼지의 림프구 미소핵 발생 평가

        Cytogenetic and hematological analysis was performed in peripheral blood obtained from pigs bred in the high background radiation areas (HBRA) (Cheongwon-gun and Boeun-gun) and a control area. The frequencies of gamma-ray induced micronuclei (MN) in the cytokinesis-blocked (CB) lymphocytes at several doses were measured in three pigs. An estimated dose of radiation was calculated by a best fitting linear-quadratic model based on the radiation-induced MN formation from the swine lymphocytes exposed in vitro to radiation over the range from 0 mGy to 1,969 mGy. The measurements performed after irradiation showed dose-related increases in the MN frequency in each donors. The results were analyzed using a linear-quadratic model with a line of best fit of $y=0.0005404D^2+0.04237D+0.00833$ [y = number of MN/cytokinesis-blocked (CB) cells and D = irradiation dose in Gy]. MN rates per 1,000 CB lymphocytes of pig from the HBRA (Cheongwon-gun, Boeun-gun) and the control area were $6.70{\pm}2.36$, $9.00{\pm}3.50$ and $11.00{\pm}2.98$, respectively. The MN frequencies of CB lymphocytes from pigs bred in three areas means that the values are within the background variation in this experiment. The MN frequencies and hematological values were similar regardless of whether the pigs were bred in the HBRA or the control area.

        Cytogenetic and hematological analysis was performed in peripheral blood of pig in the high background radiation area (HBRA) (Goesan-gun) and control area. The frequency of micronuclei (MN) in peripheral blood lymphocytes from pig was used as a biomarker of radiobiological effects resulting from exposure to environmental radiation. An estimated dose of radiation was calculated by a best fitting linear-quadratic model based on the radiation-induced MN formation from the swine lymphocytes exposed in vitro to radiation over the range from 0 Gy to 4 Gy. When analysed by Iinear-quadratic model the line of best fit was y=0.0102D²+0.0250D+0.011[y=number of MN/cytokinesis-blocked (CB) cells and D=irradiation dose in Gy]. MN rates per 1,000 CB lymphocytes of pig from HBRA and control area were 9.20±3.88 and 11.00±2.98, respectively. There were no significant differences in MN frequencies and hematological values in pig between HBRA and control area.

        고능력 젖소 축군의 집단번식관리프로그램 적용에 의한 번식효율의 개선

        We investigated the effect of reproductive herd health program (RHHP) on the reproductive performance in high yielding dairy herds. Data collected from 205 lactations at Boeun County, Chungbuk from April 2001 to Dec. 2003 included postpartum reproductive and metabolic diseases, body condition score (BCS), reproductive performance and milking records. First we compared the reproductive performance of cows without RHHP (pre-RHHP group) and cows with RHHP (RHHP group). Intervals from calving to first service (99.6 vs. 81.8 days) and to conception (160.3 vs. 131.8 days) were shorter in the RHHP group than in the pre-RHHP group. Secondly, we determined the effect of milk yield (305 days) on the occurrence of postpartum diseases, BCS changes, and reproductive performance in cows under RHHP. The occurrence of metritis and metabolic diseases were greater in the over-10,000 kg group than in the under-10,000 kg group. The over-10,000 kg group lost more body condition than the under-10,000 kg group from calving to month 3 postpartum. Nevertheless, reproductive performance did not differ between the two groups. These results indicate that reproductive performance can be improved by the application of RHHP in high yielding dairy herds and that reproductive performance in the cows under RHHP are not affected by high milk yielding.

        Relationship between Incidence of Endometritis and Metabolic Status during Peri- and Postpartum Periods in Dairy Cows

        본 연구는 임상형 혹은 준임상형 자궁내막염에 이환된 젖소와 자궁내막염이 발생되지 않은 젖소 사이에 분만 전 후 기간 동안 혈액 대사물질의 농도를 비교하였다. 분만 전 4주, 분만 후, 분만 1, 2, 4, 6주 후 혈액을 채취하였으며, 혈청 분리 후 calcium, magnesium, non-esterified fatty acids (NEFAs), total cholesterol, albumin, urea nitrogen, ${\beta}$-hydroxybutyrate (BHBA), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), ${\gamma}$-glutamyltransferase, glucose 및 phosphorus 농도를 측정하였다. 분만 후 4주에, 임상형 혹은 준임상형 자궁내막염 발생 유무에 따라 대조군(n = 104), 임상형 자궁내막염군(n = 66) 및 준임상형 자궁내막염군(n = 37)으로 구분하였다. Calcium과 magnesium 농도는 실험 전 기간에 걸쳐 임상형 자궁내막염군이 대조군과 준임상형 자궁내막염군에 비해 낮았으나(p < 0.05 to 0.0001), NEFAs 농도는 실험전 기간에 걸쳐 임상형 자궁내막염군이 대조군에 비해 높았다(p < 0.01). Total cholesterol 농도는 분만 전 및 분만 후 기간 중 임상형 자궁내막염군이 대조군과 준임상형 자궁내막염군에 비해 낮았다(p < 0.05 to 0.001). Albumin 농도는 분만 후 기간 동안 임상형 자궁내막염군이 대조군과 준임상형 자궁내막염군에 비해 낮았다(p < 0.05 to 0.001). Urea nitrogen 농도는 분만 후 4주 및 6주에 임상형 자궁내막염군이 대조군과 준임상형 자궁내막염군에 비해 낮았다(p < 0.01). 분만 후 1주에, BHBA 농도는 임상형 자궁내막염군이 대조군에 비해 높았으나(p < 0.01), AST 농도는 임상형 자궁내막염군과 준임상형 자궁내막염군이 대조군에 비해 높았다(p < 0.05). 결론적으로, 분만 후 혈청 calcium, magnesium, total cholesterol, albumin 및 urea nitrogen 농도의 감소와 NEFAs, BHBA 및 AST 농도의 증가가 임상형 자궁내막염의 발생과 관련되었으며, 이것은 전환기 중의 균형 잡힌 영양의 중요성을 제시한다. This study compared blood metabolites during peri- and postpartum periods among cows with clinical or subclinical endometritis and cows without endometritis. Blood samples from 207 Holstein dairy cows were collected at 4 weeks prepartum, just after calving, and at 1, 2, 4, and 6 weeks postpartum to measure serum concentrations of calcium, magnesium, non-esterified fatty acids (NEFAs), total cholesterol, albumin, urea nitrogen, ${\beta}$-hydroxybutyrate (BHBA), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), ${\gamma}$-glutamyltransferase, glucose, and phosphorus. Clinical endometritis was diagnosed by the observation of vaginal discharge (> 50% pus) and subclinical endometritis was diagnosed by the evaluation of uterine cytology (> 18% neutrophils) at 4 weeks postpartum. Cows were divided into three groups based on the presence or absence of clinical or subclinical endometritis: the control group (n = 104), the clinical endometritis group (n = 66), and the subclinical endometritis group (n = 37). Calcium and magnesium concentrations were lower in the clinical endometritis group than in the control and subclinical endometritis groups throughout the study period (p < 0.05 to 0.0001), whereas the NEFAs concentration was higher in the clinical endometritis group than in the control group throughout the study period (p < 0.01). The total cholesterol concentration was lower in the clinical endometritis group than in the control and subclinical endometritis groups throughout the pre- and postpartum periods (p < 0.05 to 0.001). The albumin concentration was lower in the clinical endometritis group than in the control and subclinical endometritis groups during the postpartum period (p < 0.05 to 0.001). The urea nitrogen concentration was lower in the clinical endometritis group than in the control and subclinical endometritis groups at 4 and 6 weeks postpartum (p < 0.01). At 1 week postpartum, the BHBA concentration was higher in the clinical endometritis group than in the control group (p < 0.05), whereas the AST concentration was higher in the clinical endometritis and subclinical endometritis groups than in the control group (p < 0.05). In conclusion, lower serum concentrations of calcium, magnesium, total cholesterol, albumin, and urea nitrogen, but higher concentrations of NEFAs, BHBA, and AST during the postpartum period were associated with the incidence of clinical endometritis, indicating the importance of balanced nutrition during the transition period.

An estimated dose of radiation was calculated by a best fitting linear-quadratic model based on the radiation-induced MN formation from the bovine lymphocytes exposed in vitro to radiation over the range from 0 mGy to 1,969 mGy. The measurements performed after irradiation showed dose-related increases in the MN frequency in each donors. The results were analyzed using a linear-quadratic model with a line of best fit of y = (0.0583 ± 0.0137)D + (0.0366 ± 0.0081)D² + (0.0093 ± 0.0015) (y = number of MN/CB cells and D = irradiation dose in Gy). MN rates per 1,000 CB lymphocytes of cattle from the Goesangun, Cheongwon-gun, Boeun-gun and the control area were 6.50 ± 2.72, 9.00 ± 4.50, 10.89 ± 4.23 and 9.60 ± 4.70, respectively. The MN frequencies of CB lymphocytes from cattle bred in 4 areas mean that the values are within the background variation in this experiment. The MN frequencies and hematological values were similar regardless of whether the cattle were bred in the HBRA or the control area.
