본 연구는 영어강의의 효과를 높이기 위한 운영 및 제도적 지원 등의 방안이 무엇인지 시사점을 제공하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 이에 수도권 18개 대학의 영어강의 운영에 대한 제도 및 지원 사례를 조사하고, A 대학의 영어강의 경험이 있는 교수 37명을 대상으로 영어강의에 대한 현황과 인식, 그리고 개선사항에 대한 설문조사 및 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 설문조사를 통한 자료는 기술통계분석을 하였고, 심층 면담으로 수집된 자료는 전사하여 질적 분석을 하였다. 연구 결과, 효과적인 영어강의를 위해서는 교수자와 학습자의 영어 실력이 중요하고 필요하며, 형식적인 영어강의 개설보다는 전공 및 교과의 특성을 반영한 영어강의의 운영이 필요하다는 의견과 현재 시행되고 있는 영어강의 의무화 및 제도적 혜택 등의 개선이 필요하다는 의견을 확인하였다. 이를 토대로 영어강의 활성화를 위한 시사점을 거시적인 차원에서 학교 자체의 행정적 지원과 중시적 차원에서의 학과 차원의 지원, 미시적 차원에서의 수업적 지원 및 교수학습센터의 지원으로 나누어 제안하였다. This study seeks to suggest implications on measures including operational or institutional support to enhance the effectiveness of English Medium Instruction(EMI). In order to do so, the study investigated cases of institutional and cases on English Lecture management in 18 universities spread across metropolitan area and proceeded with a survey and in-depth interview session which asks for participants’ understanding on current status of English lectures and potential improvements on 37 professors in A University who has experience in teaching English courses. The data collected through survey was analyzed using descriptive statistics while data collected through in-depth interview was transcribed and then put through qualitative analysis. The result showed that proficiency in English is important for both professors and students for effective English lectures and raised proposals stating the importance of English lectures reflecting the contents of specific major and curriculum rather than offering typical English lectures and suggesting making English lectures mandatory course as well as providing institutional benefits for these courses. Based on these findings, this study suggests implications to vitalize English including administrative aid from the university as micro-level, aid on department-level as meso-level, and instructional aid as well as aid from Center of Teaching and Learning as micro-level.
