Dissimilar friction welding were produced using 15㎜ diameter solid bar in chrome molybedenum steel(KS SCM440) to carbon steel(KS S45C) to investigate their mechanical properties. The main friction welding parameters were selected to endure good quality welds on the basis of visual examination, tensile tests, Virkers hardness surveys of the bond of area and HAZ and macrostructure investigations. The specimens were tested as-welded and post-weld heat-treated. The tensile strength of the friction welded steel bars was increased up to 100% of the S45C base metal under the condition of all heating time. Optimal welding conditions were n=2,000(rpm), P₁=60(MPa), P₂=100(MPa), t₁=4(s), t₂=5(s) when the total upset length is 5.4(㎜).
Thermal spraying onto the metal substrate has been widely used as a technique of the surface treatment in the various industrial field. A wide range of thermal spray technologies exist and all rely on the fundamental process of fusing a metal feedstock, atomizing it and transporting it to the surface of a substrate. Specially, these methods have been taken into account as the protection method against the corrosion. In this study, the polarization characteristics were carried out on the thermal sprayed coating layer immersed in various pH of diluted aqueous solutions at 25℃. Aluminum, Zinc, Ni-base alloy, alumina and polyethylene powder were used with sprayed coating materials. From the polarization curves, the electrochemical corrosion potential(Ecorr) and the corrosion current density(Icorr) were investigated.
As well known, the friction stir welding is a novel welding process which is a solid state welding process for sheet or plate using the friction stir phenomenon. This paper describes the effect of welding condition such as the rotation speed and the travelling speed during the friction stir welding process on the micro Virkers hardness and the microstructure of friction stir welded joints in AI-7075-T651 plate. From those investigations, the highest hardness of stir zone was observed at the welding condition of SO-3. The microstructures of the friction stir welded joints was not dependent on the welding conditions, but in the SO-4 specimen, the friction stir welding defect like tunnel shape was found in stir zone.
This paper investigates the tensile properties of the friction stir welded joints of Al 7075-T651 aluminum plate according to the welding conditions. A 7075-T651 aluminum alloy plate with a thickness of 6.0 ㎜ was used in this investigation. For the friction stir welding (FSW) process, a tool with shoulder diameter of 20 ㎜ and probe diameter of 9 mm was used. The rotation speed and traverse speed conditions were changed in this study, the other welding conditions are constant. The welding direction was aligned with the material rolling direction, and dimension of the FSW plate were 250×100×6 ㎜. As far as this work is concerned, the optimal FSW conditions are determined as the rotation speed, 600 rpm and traverse speed 0.8 ㎜/sec or the rotation speed, 800 rpm and traverse speed 0.5 ㎜/sec.
This paper is concerned with the stochastic nature of elevated temperature tensile strength and creep rupture time in 18Cr-8Ni stainless steels. The Weibull statistical analysis using the NRIM data sheet has been performed to investigate the effects of variability of the elevated temperature tensile strength and creep rupture time on the testing temperature. From those investigations, the distributions of temperature tensile strength and creep rupture time were well followed in 2-parameter Weibull. The shape parameter and scale parameter for the Weibull distribution of tensile strength were decreased with increasing the testing temperature. For the creep rupture time, generally, the shape parameter were decreased with increasing the testing temperature.
