Vol.20 No.1

This research is designed to analyze the difference in physical self concept and stress between participants and non-participants of swimming exercise to present the former group with the results with regard to effects of participation and provide the latter group with basic information on spontaneous motivation toward swimming exercise. For this research, participants in swimming exercise were composed of 163 members of a swimming program at a sports center in K city, Kyunggi-Do and 30 contestants in Masters Swimming Competition of K City of the same province, while non-participants consisted of 130 residents of K City, of the same province. An. the result is as follows. First, participants of swimming exercise than non-participants showed higher levels (p < .05) of physical self-concept and lowest levels of stress derived from depression and anxiety. Second, in terms of frequency of participation in swimming exercise, ``1 to 2 times a week``, ``3 to 4 times a week``, ``5 to 6 times a week``, and ``everyday`` than ``never`` showed higher levels of physical selfconcept. 6 months or shorter participation than non-participation showed higher levels of physical activity and sports competence, and endurance, while longer participation showed higher levels (p < .05) of physical activity, sports competence, flexibility, and the body``s overall factor. ``3 to 4 times a week`` than ``never`` showed lower levels (p < .01) of depression, while ``shorter than 6 months`` and ``over 2 years`` than non-participants showed lower levels (p < .01) of depression. Third, sub-variables of physical self concept such as physical activity, sports competence, muscular force, flexibility, endurance, self-respect, health, and the body`s overall factor have been shown to be negatively correlated with sub-variables of stress such as sleep disorder, depression, and anxiety. Therefore, participants and non-participants of swimming exercise show difference in physical self concept and stress.

        정아름(Ah Reum Jung),김신애(Shin Ae Kim),김건태(Kun Tae Kim),이대택(Dae Taek Lee),윤건호(Kun Ho Yoon),최윤희(Yoon Hee Choi) 한국웰니스학회 2020 한국웰니스학회지 Vol.15 No.1

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Smartphone-based physical activity and Body Mass Index(BMI) in type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) patients. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 232 T2DM patients using a diabetes self-management APP(iCareD) which is linked to the EMR. Participant"s daily walking steps were measured with 3-axis accelerometer embeded in their smartphones to examine the level of physical activity and the level was categorized into four categories. For assessing physical activity level, daily steps were collected for 30 days using iCareD. The medical record of participants were retrieved from the hospital. To investigate the difference in BMI by the level of physical activity and personal characteristic, ANOVA was conducted. Also, multiple regression analysis was conducted to analyze the relationship between physical activity and BMI, the days of recommended level of physical activity (≥ 7,500 steps/day) by American Diabetes Association and BMI. The results indicated that there was no significant difference in BMI by the level of physical activity (p=0.488). Also, there was no significant relationship between physical activity and BMI. However, there was a significant correlation between the achieved days of recommended level of physical activity and BMI (p=0.039). The findings suggest that the regular physical activity above the recommended level is related to preventing and managing obesity in T2DM patients.
