        $quot;Thirty eight human cancer cell lines have been established (success rate 18.4%) from 206 tumor specimens from November 1989 to August 1990 at Laboratory of Tumor Cell Biology, Cancer Research Institute, Seoul National Vniversity College of Medicine. We used AR5 media (ACL-4 media in RPMI-1640 plus 5% FBS) for routine culture for all tumor cells except gastric cancers. R10 media (RPMI-1640 plus 10% FBS) was used for gastric cancer. Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) was added to AR5 for thyroid cancer. Established cancer cell lines are 1 gastric adenocarcinoma, 3 colorectal adenocarcinoma, 7 he- patocellular carcinoma, 2 breast ductal carcinoma, 7 renal cell carcinoma, 4 transitional cell carcinoma of urinary bladder, 2 glioblastoma multiforme, 1 oligodendroglioma, 1 gallbladder carcinoma, 2 pancreatic adenocarcinoma, 3 Wilms' tumor, 1 lung cancer, 1 thyroid papillary cancer, 1 ovarian cancer, 1 ampulla of Vater adenocarcinoma and 1 metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of thigh. Another hepatocellular carcinoma line (SNU-182) initiated in June 1989 was established after 16 months. AR5 media was useful especially for establishment of cell lines fram hepatocellular carcinoma (success rate 36.8% [7/19]), pancreatic cancer (success rate 100% [2/2]):.glioblastom.a multiforme (success rate 100% [2/2]) and urologic cancers such as renal cell carcinoma (success rate 46.7% [7/ 15]), transitional cell carcinoma of urinary bladder (success rate 33.3% [4/12]), and Wilms tumor (success rate 75.0% (3/4)).$quot;

        Feasibility of Total Body Score (TBS) and Accumulated Degree Days (ADD) in the Estimation of Postmortem Interval for Forensic Murder Casework

        Postmortem interval (PMI) is very important in the crime scene investigation. However, it is very difficult to estimate of the interval since death after a decomposition. Recently, there have been various studies on the postmortem interval since a decomposition. In particular, the total body score (TBS) and accumulated degree days (ADD) used to estimate the postmortem interval after a decomposition. This study was conducted with the aim of applying the TBS and ADD to estimate the postmortem interval in real forensic caseworks. In first murder case, TBS was 12 and ADD value was 132, respectively. An estimated time of PMI was around 23:00 on June 21, and the suspect's statement was 01:20 on June 22. Our estimated interval since death and the suspect's statement for the PMI differ by only 2 hours and 20 minutes. In second forensic case, TBS was 3 and ADD value was 55, respectively, an estimated time of PMI was around 02:26 on September 23. The suspect's statement was 10:30 on September 23. Our estimated time and the suspect's statement for the PMI differ by 8 hours. In these cases, we were able to have confirmed the feasibility of TBS and ADD on the real forensic cases. Overall, our finding suggested that the quantitative method could be used to produce PMI estimates that are accurate to within days or even hours.

        Gastric angiodysplasia may be responsible for up to 2% to 6% of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Moreover, gastric angiodysplasia may be particularly difficult to treat and is usually associated with a high rebleeding rate. Bleeding due to gastric angiodypsplasia is usually treated by various endoscopic approaches, including argon and Nd:YAG laser photocoagulation, monopolar or biopolar electrocoagulation, heater probe, or injection. Associated complications of these methods, however, such as perforation, acute bleeding during the procedure, or delayed massive hemorrhage have been reported. Recently a few reports have been suggested that endoscopic ligation therapy is a safe, effective treatment for gastric angiodysplasia. A 70-year-old man, who had undergone subtotal gastrectomy for perforation of a duodenal ulcer for 20 years, was admitted due to melena and dizziness persisting for 1 week. A gastroscopy revealed a single angiodysplasia with active bleeding just above the anastomotic site of the remnant stoach. Endoscopic ligation therapy was performed successfully and the bleeding stopped immediately after endoscopic ligation. Since then, no recurrence of bleeding has been reported to date.

      • Prices, Qualities, and Costly Information in a Search Model of Money

        This paper examines the implications of costly information for prices and qualities in a search model of money. Agents can acquire an inspection technology at a cost where incurring a higher cost permits quality to be recognized with higher probability. First, in contrast to the exogenous information structure, the equilibrium without lemons no longer exists. Second, in the constrained equilibrium where uninformed buyers get a zero net surplus from trade, average quality of output increases with the money stock since buyers choose to be better informed as the money stock increases. The price dispersion in terms of the premium for known quality increases with the money stock. As for the effects of inflation, buyers become better informed with inflation, which implies the larger premium for the known quality. In the constrained equilibrium, higher average quality and lower price of known quality with a positive inflation imply higher welfare relative to a zero inflation.

        고대산 북서사면(경기도 연천군) 지역의 식물상 및 산림군락 분류에 관한 연구

        2003년 3월부터 10월까지 고대산을 대상으로 식물상과 산림군락을 조사하였다. 관속식물은 94과 299속 481종 1아종 66변종 4품종 1교잡종으로 총 553종류인 것으로 나타났으며, 한국특산식물은 8과 11속 13종 총 13종류, 희귀 및 멸종위기식물은 12과 15속 15속 15종 총 15종류, 귀화식물은 9과 15속 17종 총 17종류로 나타났다. 산림군락은 신갈나무-철쭉군목, 신갈나무-생강나무군단, 갈참나무-신갈나무군락, 굴참나무-신갈나무군락, 당단풍-신갈나무군락으로 전체 1군목, 1군단, 3군락이 분포하는 것으로 나타났다. The study was carried out to investigate the flora and community classification of forest vegetation in Mt. Godae from March to October, 2003. As a result of that, the vascular plants were 94 families, 299 genera, 481 species, 1 subspecies, 66 varieties, 4 formae, 1 hybrid, 553 taxa in all; korean endemic plants were 8 families, 11 genera, 13 species, 13 taxa in all; rare or endangered plants were 12 families, 15 genera, 15 species, 15 taxa in all; naturalized plants were 9 families, 15 genera, 17 species, 17 taxa in all. forest vegetation was classified into 1 order, 1 alliance, 3 communities; Rhododendro - Quercetalia mongolicae (Kim 1990) Lindero - Quercion mongolicae (Kim 1990) A.       • Bioactive Polyglycolic Acid (PGA) or Polylactic Acid (PLA) Polymers on Extracellular Matrix Mineralization in Osteoblast-like Mc3T3-E1 Cells

        Porous matrices of bioactive polymers such as polyglycolic acid (PGA) or polylactic acid (PLA) can be used as scaffolds in bone tissue growth during bone repair process. These polymers are highly porous and serve as a template for the growth and organization of new bone tissues. We evaluated the effect of PGA and PLA polymers on osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cell extracellular mineralization. MC3T3-E1 cells were cultured in a time-dependent manner -1, 15, 25d as appropriate - for the period of bone formation stages in one of the five culture circumstances, such as normal osteogenic differentiation medium, PGA-plated, fetal bovine serum (FBS)-plated, PGA/FBS-coplated, and PLA-plated For the evaluation of bone formation, minerals (Ca, Mg, Mn) and alkaline phosphatase activity, a marker for osteoblast differentiation, were measured. Alizarin Red staining was used for the measurement of extracellular matrix Ca deposit. During the culture period, PGA-plated one was reabsorbed into the medium more easily and faster than the PLA-plated one. At day 15, at the middle stage of bone formation, cellular Ca and Mg levels showed higher tendency in PGA- or PLA-plated treatments compared to non-plated control and at day 25, at the early late stage of bone formation, all three cellular Ca, Mg or Mn levels showed higher tendency as in order of PGA-related treatments and PLA-plated treatments, compared to control even without significance. Medium Ca, Mg or Mn levels didn't show any consistent tendency. Cellular ALP activity was higher in the PGA- or PLA-plated treatments compare to normal osteogenic medium treatment PGA-plated and PGA/FBS-plated treatments showed better Ca deposits than other treatments by measurement of Alizarin Red staining, although PLA-plated treatment also showed reasonable Ca deposit. The results of the present study suggest that biodegradable material, PGA and also with less extent for PLA, can be used as a biomaterial for better extracellular matrix mineralization in osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells.

        Development of biosimilar proteins is thefastest growing sector in the biopharmaceutical industry, aspatents for the top 10 best-selling biologics will expirewithin one decade. The world's first biosimilar of infliximab,Remsima® (CT-P13) made by Celltrion, was approved bythe Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use(CHMP) of European Medicine Agency (EMA) in June2013. This has ignited competition between related companiesfor prior occupation of the global market on blockbusterbiologics. However, to achieve approval for biosimilars,developing companies face many hurdles in processdevelopment, manufacturing, analysis, clinical trials, andCMC (chemical, manufacturing and controls) documentation. Recent evolutionary progress in science, engineering, andprocess technology throughout the biopharmaceuticalindustry supports to show similarity between originator andbiosimilar products. The totality of evidence has been ableto demonstrate the quality, efficacy, and safety of biosimilarswhereas a lack of interchangeability and internationalstandards has to be addressed. Further understanding of thetiming importance by regulatory agencies will be key tomaximizing the value of biosimilars.

        Autocrine stimulation of IL-10 is critical to the enrichment of IL-10-producing CD40<sup>hi</sup>CD5<sup>+</sup> regulatory B cells in vitro and in vivo

        IL-10-producing B (Breg) cells regulate various immune responses. However, their phenotype remains unclear. CD40 expression was significantly increased in B cells by LPS, and the Breg cells were also enriched in $CD40^{hi}CD5^+$ B cells. Furthermore, CD40 expression on Breg cells was increased by IL-10, CD40 ligand, and B cell-activating factor, suggesting that $CD40^{hi}$ is a common phenotype of Breg cells. LPS-induced CD40 expression was largely suppressed by an anti-IL-10 receptor antibody and in IL-$10^{-/-}CD5^+CD19^+$ B cells. The autocrine effect of IL-10 on the CD40 expression was largely suppressed by an inhibitor of JAK/STAT3. In vivo, the LPS treatment increased the population of $CD40^{hi}CD5^+$ Breg cells in mice. However, the population of $CD40^{hi}CD5^+$ B cells was minimal in IL-$10^{-/-}$ mice by LPS. Altogether, our findings show that Breg cells are largely enriched in $CD40^{hi}CD5^+$ B cells and the autocrine effect of IL-10 is critical to the formation of $CD40^{hi}CD5^+$ Breg cells.

        Fermentative characteristics of wheat bran direct-fed microbes inoculated with starter culture

        This study was conducted to determine the fermentative characteristics of wheat bran inoculated with a starter culture of direct-fed microbes as a microbial wheat bran (DMWB) feed additive. Wheat bran was prepared with 1% (w/w, 0.5% Lactobacillus plantarum and 0.5% of Saccharomyces cerevisiae) starter culture treatment (TW) or without starter culture as a control (CW). Those were fermented under anaerobic conditions at $30^{\circ}C$ incubation for 3 days. Samples were taken at 0, 1, 2, and 3 days to analyze chemical composition, microbial growth, pH, and organic acid content. Chemical composition was not significantly different between CW and TW (p > 0.05). In TW, the number of lactic acid bacteria and yeast increased during the 3 days of fermentation (p < 0.05) and the population of lactic acid bacteria was significantly higher than in CW (p < 0.05). After 3 days, the number of yeast in TW was $7.50{\pm}0.07log\;CFU/g$, however, no yeast was detected in CW (p < 0.05). The pH values of both wheat bran samples decreased during the 3 days of fermentation (p < 0.05), and TW showed significantly lower pH than CW after 3 days of fermentation (p < 0.05). Contents of lactic acid and acetic acid increased significantly at 3rd day of fermentation in TW. However, no organic acids were generated in CW during testing period. These results suggest that 3 days of fermentation at $37^{\circ}C$ incubation after the inoculation wheat bran with starter culture makes it possible to produce a direct-feed with a high population of lactic acid bacteria at more than $10^{11}CFU/g$.
