Satoshi Suzuki,Kunihiko Kuronuma,Fumio Harashima 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8
This paper reports the development of a reliable vision-based eye-gaze detection system for ananalysis of multiple users’ intention and communication. Headgear design for the gaze detection, a recording system, an off-line computation, an algorithm of the gaze extraction, and its calibration method, are mentioned. Applying the proposed system to a test case, sufficient precision of the gaze detection was confirmed.
Analysis of Machine Operation Skills using Hand Discrete Movement
Satoshi Suzuki,Fumio Harashima 제어로봇시스템학회 2008 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2008 No.10
The function for supporting a human by considering his of her skill-level is required for a future advanced machine. In this study, discrete movements of operator’s hand were analyzed to propose an adequate skill evaluation method that has possibility to be implementable to a machine. Using teleoperation experiment system for two radio-controlled construction machines, the training process of the operators was recorded, and performance of the machine operation, the reaching action of operator’s hand, and the state transition matrix of the operation commands were investigated. From the analyses, sufficiently-high correlation between the change of the fitting error to Fitts’ law and the task-performance index was confirmed, and an increasing of the task performance and a decreasing of the inching had strong relationship.
Human Behavior Characterizing based on Line-of-Sight for Human Adaptive Mechatronics
Satoshi Suzuki,Fumio Harashima,Katsuhisa Furuta 한국과학기술원 인간친화 복지 로봇 시스템 연구센터 2006 International Journal of Assistive Robotics and Me Vol.7 No.1
In this paper, characterization of human behavior to estimate human skill-level, which is a significant item to achieve the Human Adaptive Mechatronics (HAM), is considered. The characterizing of an operator"s manipulation is done by utilizing a discrete state-transition model based on line-of-sight information. In order to obtain experimental data to evaluate the proposed method, a human-machine experimental measurement system for a tele-operation robot system was devised. We confirmed that automatic characterizing of operator"s behavior for estimation of the skill is possible by checking of combination of transition states of eye-gaze patterns, operator"s actions and robot status.

In order to predict of accuracy of movement just before the onset of movement using biological signals, the relationships between MRCP measured as a physiological index and the accuracy of task performance were investigated. As experiments, subjects touched the target appearing 300 pixels away from a start point in a verticaldirection on a touch-sensitive screen with the forefinger. During experiments, EEG, EMG as trigger, high-speed camera images, and task efficiency were acquired. As a result, significant differences between the high- and low-performance groups were clearly confirmed on the slope of NS in MRCPs. Furthermore, a difference between these groups wasconfirmed in duration of ballistic movement.

Background/Aims: Asymptomatic esophageal eosinophilia (aEE) is considered to be a potential precursor of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). However, there are few clinical parameters that can be used to evaluate the disease. Therefore, we aimed to clarify the factors involved in the symptoms of EoE by examining the clinicopathological differences between aEE and EoE. Methods: We reviewed 41 patients with esophageal eosinophilia who underwent endoscopic ultrasonography and high-resolution manometry. They were divided into the aEE group (n=16) and the EoE group (n=25) using the Frequency Scale for the Symptoms of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease score. The patients’ clinicopathological findings were collected and examined. Results: The median Frequency Scale for the Symptoms of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease score was 3.0 in the aEE group and 10.0 in the EoE group. There was no significant difference in patient characteristics, endoscopic findings and pathological findings. The cutoff value for wall thickening was 3.13 mm for the total esophageal wall thickness and 2.30 mm for the thickness from the surface to the muscular layer (total esophageal wall thickness: 84.0% sensitivity, 75.0% specificity; thickness from the surface to the muscular layer: 84.0% sensitivity, 68.7% specificity). The high-resolution manometry study was abnormal in seven patients (43.8%) in the aEE group and in 12 (48.0%) in the EoE group. The contractile front velocity was slower in the EoE group (p=0.026). Conclusions: The esophageal wall thickening in the lower portion of the esophagus is an important clinical factors related to the symptoms in patients with EoE.

PURPOSE. This study evaluated the availability of multi-directionally forged (MDF) titanium (Ti) as a component of removable partial dentures (RPDs). MDF-Ti remarkably improved the mechanical properties of RPDs due to its ultrafine-grained structure. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The wear resistance, plaque adhesion, and machinability of MDF-Ti were tested. As controls, commercially pure (CP) titanium was used for wear, plaque adhesion, and machinability tests. For wear resistance, the volume losses of the titanium teeth before and after wear tests were evaluated. Plaque adhesion was evaluated by the assay of Streptococcus mutans. In the machinability test, samples were cut and ground by a steel fissure bur and carborundum (SiC) point. An unpaired t-test was employed for the analysis of the significant differences between MDF-Ti and the control in the results for each test. RESULTS. Wear resistance and plaque adherence of MDF-Ti similar to those of CP-Ti (P>.05) were indicated. MDF-Ti exhibited significantly larger volume loss than CP-Ti in all conditions except 100/30,000 g/rpm in machinability tests (P<.05). CONCLUSION. Although the wear resistance and plaque adherence of MDF-Ti were comparable to those of controls, MDF-Ti showed better machinability than did CP-Ti. MDF-Ti could be used as a framework material for RPDs.

Background: Reports that smoking infl uences the regional cerebral fl ood fl ow (CBF), brain atrophy, and cognition in Parkinson disease (PD) are few. Methods: Regional CBF and brain atrophy, and cognition were studied in PD with (PDS) or without (PDNS) a smoking habit, and normal non-smoking controls. Results: PD groups (PDS and PDNS) had a decreased CBF. BDI and FAB scores in PD groups were lower compared with those in controls. Also FAB scores in PDS were lower compared with those in PDNS. Conclusions: Results of the decreased CBF could be associated with the results of BDI, FAB and WMS-R in PD.
