        Pulmonary inflammation caused by silica dioxide nanoparticles in mice via TXNIP/NLRP3 signaling pathway

        Background Silica dioxide nanoparticles (SiONPs) have been used for various medical applications, including therapeutics and imaging, and the use of SiONPs has increased gradually over the years. However, despite an increase in the use of SiONPs, not much is known about mechanism of action of SiONPs and their pulmonary toxicity. Objective The present study investigated the pulmonary toxicity of SiONPs and explored the underlying mechanism of action, primarily focusing on thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP)/NOD-like receptor pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) in SiONPs-treated mice. We investigated the toxic effects of SiONPs in the lung of BALB/c mice administered 5, 10, and 20 mg/kg SiONPs for 3 days. Results Exposure to SiONPs markedly increased inflammatory cell counts, including those of neutrophils and macrophages, and levels of inflammatory mediators, such as interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α in a dose-dependent manner in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Moreover, the inflammation was verified upon histopathological analysis. In addition, exposure to SiONPs increased the expression of TXNIP in a dose-dependent manner and, in turn, upregulated NLRP3 inflammasome proteins, which subsequently induced IL-1β production. Conclusion Collectively, exposure to SiONPs induced inflammation in the lungs of mice, which resulted in the activation of IL-1β production via the TXNIP-NLRP3 axis. Our results provide useful information on the pulmonary toxicity induced by SiONPs and provide insights into the underlying mechanism of action.

        Body temperature is controlled by thermoregulatory center of the hypothalamus. We report a case of 24 years old man with central fever. He was subjected to a partial excision of pituitary tumor compressing optic chiasm four years ago. He has received hormonal therapy for panhypothyroidism after removal of pituitary tumor. And He received gamma knife operation for partially contrast-enhancing masses in suprasellar and both hypothalamic areas that is probably postoperatively remnant or recurrent tumor of pituitary adenoma. One year after gamma knife operation, he presented with a febrile syndrome of unknown origin including rhabdomyolysis. All usual investigations proved negative. We diagnosed him as central fever with rhabdomyolysis. He received medical ICU care with cooling bed, ice pack. And his symptom improved. Postoperative hyperthermia may result following resection of the pituitary tumor. When central fever is suspected taking note of past history, a quick recognition of course of fever can help reduce the using of unnecessary antibiotics and hospital stay.

      • 有機溶劑染色에 의한 PET Filament 의 染色性과 物性變化에 관한 硏究

        Poly(ethylene terephthalate) filament was dyed with C.I. Disperse Orange 3 in DMF, MCB, and PER dyebath at varying temperature in order to examine the dyeing properties related with the changes in the physical properties. The results of experiment were as follows; 1. Amount of dye uptake decreased in order of PER, MCB, and DMF, and diffusion coefficients of dye were increased according to increasing temperature, but amount of dye uptake were deacreased. 2. Shrinkage and degree of swelling in DMF which interacted with the aliphatic residue of PET were shown better than other solvents. 3. Dye exhausion rate increased the linear proportion with the change in the physical properties increased until the equilibrium dye uptake. 4. In isothermalic condition, degree of crystallinity was increased as time pass.

      • 제어 시스템 설계를 위한 IEC 1131-3 기반의 제어 로직 생성기의 개발

        This paper describes the methodology of an IEC 1131-3-based control logic generator for the control system design and converting algorithm between programmable languages. The proposed control logic generator is generated based on the software model and common element with data type, variables, POUs(program organization unit) and execution control unit commonly used within programmable languages of IEC 1131-3 Standard. The generation method of object file was proposed on five programmable language based on IEC1131-3. The generation method of object file is represented as following; 1) the generation method using conversion algorithm from LD to IL with FBD(function block diagram), 2) the generation method using C code generation algorithm from SFC using the SFC execution sequence with FBD and ST(structured text). The proposed control logic generator was implemented by Visual C++ and MFC on MS-windows NT 4.0

      • 발아과정을 통한 3종 식물의 내염성 단백질 합성

        염분을 농도별로 첨가한 배지에서 유채와 무 0.2%때 발아율이 가장 높았다. 염분의 농도별 생장율을 조사한 결과 유채와 무에서 0.4%와 0.6%의 염분이 첨가 되었을 때 생장이 가장 좋았다. 3종 작물을 각기 다른 염분내성 단백질을 생산해내는 것으로 나타나서 유채는 35kD와 26kD의 단백질을 새로 생산해 내었으며 무는 40kD와 16kD 그리고 벼는 0.4%에는 30kD, 고농도에서는 20kD의 단백질을 생산했다. Germination rate of Brassica and Raphanus was observed highest rate at the 0.2% NaCl concentration. Growth rate of Brassica and Raphanus showed maximum value at the 0.4% and 0.6% respectively. Salt resistant protein was biosynthesized with different molecular weight; Brassica synthesized 35kD and 26kD protein, Raphanus with 40kD and 16kD and rice produced 320kD and 20kD protein at the 0.4% and over 0.6% concentration of NaCl respectively.

        After knitted cotton fabric was finished silicone quaternary ammonium salt of antibacterial agent, effects of treatment by nonionic and anionic surface active agent and salt-methanol rinsing on antibacterial properties were investigated. When laundered with anionic surface active agent, cation of quaternary ammonium, antibacterial functional radical from the first laundry was compete masked with anion of surface active agent, and antibacterial properties was decreased extremely after ten times of laundry. But, as a result of milk test, the effect of antibacterial properties was known as positive comparing with unfinished fabric.

      • Bochner 방법을 응용한 Shigella의 약제내성 제거

        To study the optimal curing condition on selective medium described by Bochner et al. and modified medium, six strains of S. flexneri and 2 strains of S. sonnei were tested for minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) of quinaldic acid and cured resistance pattern. Also, changing patterns of elimination according to incubation temperature were investigated at 37℃ and 42℃. MICs of Shigella on original Bochner medium and modified medium were 50 5o 400㎍/㎖. But MICs of Shigella were above of 400㎍/㎖ on the Bochner's medium excluding tetracycline and sodium phosphate. There were no differences in MIC between at 37℃ and 42℃. On the Bochner's medium, losses of drug resistance were more effective than other medium and cured resistance pattern was partial or total of original resistance, regardless of incubation temperature. Frequencies of curing were low on modified Bochner's medium, but most of cured resistance pattern were total resistance of Shigella. Frequencies of curing at 42℃ were similar to 37℃, but some strains showed resistance loss only at 42℃. MICs of 8 strains of Shigella were above of 400㎍/㎖ and no strains detected resistance loss on the both tryptic soy agar and tryptic soy broth.

      • Unbraced Tubular 아치교에서 아치리브의 단면력과 거동에 관한 연구

        Arch bridge has widely been applied because it presents the beauty of unique curves to a structure, distributes horizontality the reactions due to load effectively, and makes it possible to construct economical bridges with appropriate plans. Recently, tries to transform the old types of arch bridge have been done. Of all, the most representatives are unbraced arch bridge which applies circular section of tubular to arch rib to diminish a shape factor. Some foreign countries have these bridges. In Korea, there is no examples but it has just been proposed as the plan. For the many merits of unbraced tubular arch bridge the increase in the instances applying it to construction is expected and more research is demanded. Resultingly, in this study, when the arch rib is constructed with inclined angle perpendicular to the axis of bridge to present the beauty of unbraced tubular arch bridge, the strength under the inclined angle of arch rib is examined using the Finite Element Method.

        수면 무호흡과 불안장애의 불면증에 대한 다원수면기록

        Objects : The authors studied polysomnographic findings of patients with sleep apnea DIMS (disorders of initiating and maintainig sleep) syndrome and anxiety disorders with insomnia related to another mental disorders. Methods : Eight patients with sleep apnea DIMS syndrome and fourteen patients with anxiety disorder with insomnia related to another mental disorder(nonorganic) were studied using computerized polysomnography. Results : 1) The sleep period time were significantly decreased in anxiety disorder group and the sleep latency was prolonged in these patients. 2) The changes in sleep stage and the number of arousals during sleep period time were more frequent in sleep apneic patients group. And using these variables we could discriminate sleep apneic patients group from subjects with anxiety disorder. 3) The stage 1 sleep was significantly increased in sleep apneic patients. 4) The apnea index in sleep apnea patients was 28.1±25.7. Conclusion : These results suggested that even though there were similiar clinical presentaion such as insomnia, the sleep features of sleep apnea DIMS syndrome and anxiety disorder with insomnia were different. And though there were no instruments to check respiratory flow or movement, it would be possible to discriminate the sleep apnea DIMS syndrome from the anxiety disorder with insomnia by recording the changes in sleep stage and the number of arousals in overnight electroencephalographic procedure.

      • 유기성 Sludge가 잔디의 생육과 토양의 화학적 특성에 미치는 영향

        Various kinds of the industrial wastes, when introduced into the environment, can cause many problems, Proper treatment and utilization of the wastes thus are one of the recent environmental concerns. A greenhouse experiment was conducted to investigate the influence of organic sludge from the beer manufacturing process on the growth of the Korean turf (Zoysia japonica, STEUD.) and the chemical properties of the soil. Treatment levels of the experimental organic sludge, which was pre-treated with quicklime, were ranged fom 0 to 20kg/m³. Sowing dates were 5 to 30 days elapsed after the sludge application. Increasing levels of the experimental sludge increased height, root length, number of leaf, and yields of the turf. Planting periods interacted with treatment level of the sludge to show a positive effect on the growth parameters. Uptakes of nitrogen and calcium were also enhanced by treatment. Soil organic matter and exchangeable Ca contents were increased by the sludge treatment. Sludge caused to increase soil pH upto 8.3 and this maintained for over 60 days. A possibility to utilize this organic sludge as a fertilizer could be supported by results of positive effects of this sludge on growth, nutrient uptake and soil fertility parameters, Further researches on the utilization of the industrial wastes, concerning on treatment level, long term effect, and a possible side effect, should be followed.
