The recreation reserch held in Korea and other nations is mostly based on a social survey method, employing a theoretical approach to recreation's principles. In the US and Canada, however, the reserch is more practical and academical, including sociology, psychology, economics, urban engineering and ecology. A psychological approach to recreation peaked in 1960s-1970s. The so-called recreation psychology supported by experimental data and case-study came into being in the 1970s. Up to now, then, the psychological tendencies in recreation reserch show the increasing number and areas of appile'd studies, focused on scientific and contributing to the solution of actual problenms of everyday life.

The aspects and satisfaction on university foodservice were investigated to provide basic information for better foodservice in university by questionnaires. The survey was conducted in Daejon, and data were analyzed by SAS. Although 87.3% of subjects were under foodservice, only 2.0% of them preferred the foods served in university. The most favorite reason for foodservice was indicated as no need on lunch bag(31.1%) and frendship of classmates(25.5%). The most unfavorite reason for foodservice was indicated as bad taste of foods(68.7%) or many dislike foods(13.2%), also dirty eating place(7.7%). The subject liked ssalbap, baechu kimchi, beef foods. The acceptance about kongbap, yulmu kirnchi, beef products was higher in men than women(p<0.05). The preference of mieokkuk was higher in women and that of beef soup was higher in men(p<0.05). The degree of satisfaction was lower in men than in women about the amount of foods(p<0.001). Also the degree of satisfaction was lower in women than in men about sanitary condition of eating place. 54.6% of them had taken the unwanted materials in foods and 3% of them experienced the deteriorated food. The results suggest that food preference of subjects should be considered in meal planning and various cooking method should be utilized to enhance taste of foods for better foodservice. Also, the importance of various foods intake must be periodically and continuously taught to them through nutrition education.

사람 뇨 속의 15개 endogenous steroid를 β-glucuronidase(from E. Coli)로 가수분해시켜서 XAD-2 수치를 사용하여 추출하고 N-methly silyl heptafluoro butylamide/trimethyl silylimidazole/trimethyl chloro silane 혼합물로 유도체화시킨 다음, GC/MSD로 동시 분석하였다. endocrine disease의 진단용으로 사용되어질 수 있는 15개의 endogenous steroid 농도는 정상인 뇨에서 0.01∼100㎍/ml로 나타났다. The fifteen endogenous steroids in human urine were simultaneously analyzed by selected ion monitoring(SIM) method of GC/MS. Urinary steroids were extracted by using XAD-2 resin and hydrolyzed with β-glucuronidase from E. Coli. The urinary steroids were quantitatively derivatized by N-methyl heptafluoro butylamide/trimethyl silylimidazole/trimethylchloro silane mixture. Concentrations of the fifteen steroids were in the range of 0.01∼100㎍/ml in the urine of twenty-four males and twenty-four females. The quantitative results of steroids can be used as a diagnostic tool for endocrine disease.

A total of 43 cases of tuberculous meningitis in children who were admitted to the pediatric department of Soonchunhyang Chunan hospital and Soonchunhyang Gumi hospital from Jan. 1983 to Dec. 1997 were reviewed clinically. The results were as follows; 1) The incidence of tuberculous meningitis admitted patients has been decreased. 2) The ratio of male to female was 1.5:1. 3) The incidence by age was highest under the age of 1 year (32.6%) and 72.1% of the patient were under 6 years. 4) There were tuberculous patients in the family in 34.9% of all cases. 5) The symptoms on admission were, in order: vomiting, fever, headache, irritability, impaired consciousness, lethargy and convulsion. 6) In the neurological examination on admission, 41.8% of all cases were in a coma or a semicomatose state; Kernig or Brudzinski sign was positive in 51.2% of the cases. 7) The tuberculin skin test was positive in only 14.2% of the cases. 8) On chest X-rays, tuberculous lesion was seen in 32.6%, and miliary patterns were seen in 9.1% of all cases. 9) Brain CT was performed in 8 cases and brain MRI in 1 case, with abnormal findings in 100% of these cases. The brain CT findings were hydrocephalus in 8 cases; basal cisteral enhancement in 2 cases; and infarction and tuberculoma in one case each. 10) In cerebrospinal fluid study, the mean leukocyte count was 174.3/μL (51 to 200/μL). The mean protein level was 154.9 mg/dL. The mean sugar level was 38.7 mg/dL. The mean chloride level was 110.8 mEq/L.. 11) The overall mortality rate was 11.9% and all patients classified as the 3rd stage on admission died.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>It is not clear whether screening by coronary computed tomographic angiography (CCTA) and/or exercise electrocardiogram (ECG) can improve clinical outcomes and reduce costs in individuals without known cardiovascular disease (CVD).</P><P>In total, 71,811 consecutive individuals without known CVD who underwent general health examinations were enrolled. Using propensity-score matching according to screening tests, 1-year clinical outcomes and 6-month total and coronary artery disease–related medical costs were analyzed in separate groups: group 1 (CCTA [n = 2578] vs no screening [n = 5146]), group 2 (exercise ECG [n = 2898] vs no screening [n = 5796]), and group 3 (CCTA and exercise ECG [n = 2003] vs no screening [n = 4006]).</P><P>There were no significant differences in the composite outcome of death, myocardial infarction, and stroke in each matched group: group 1 (0.35% vs 0.45%, <I>P</I> = 0.501), group 2 (0.14% vs 0.28%, <I>P</I> = 0.157), and group 3 (0.25% vs 0.27%, <I>P</I> = 0.858). However, revascularization was more frequent in the CCTA screening groups: group 1 (2.02% vs 0.45%, <I>P</I> < 0.001) and group 3 (1.40% vs 0.45%, <I>P</I> < 0.001). Matched screening groups had higher 6-month total and coronary artery disease–related medical costs: group 1 ($777 vs $603, <I>P</I> < 0.001 and $177 vs $39, <I>P</I> < 0.001), group 2 ($544 vs $492, <I>P</I> = 0.045 and $12 vs $15, <I>P</I> = 0.611), and group 3 ($705 vs $627, <I>P</I> = 0.090 and $135 vs $35, <I>P</I> < 0.001).</P><P>In individuals without known CVD, CCTA screening with or without exercise ECG led to more frequent revascularization at the expense of higher medical costs, but did not decrease the 1-year risk of death, myocardial infarction, and stroke.</P>

The distribution of microzooplankton and hydrographic variables were measured in the Virginia portion of Chesapeake Bay and its major rivers. Samples were collected at 14 locations at monthly interval from September 1993 through December 1995. Ciliates were numerically dominated (>90%) and copepod nauplii comprised highest proportion of the total microzooplankton biomass (>77%). Copepod nauplii and ciliates were the most abundant at oligohaline water and rotifers at freshwater. Total microzooplankton density and biomass were usually higher at oligohaline stations than fresh water and polyhaline stations. Despite high nutrient concentration and phytoplankton density at eutrophic water, micro- and mesozooplankton biomass were low. Mesozooplankton were relatively abundant at polyhaline stations. The comparison between annual mean biomass of ciliates (12.7 ${\mu$}gC/1) and that of autotrophic picoplankton (13.5 {$\mu$}gC/1) revealed that ciliates were a major consumer of picoplankton production. The secondary production by ciliates was 12.7 ${\mu}$gC/1/day, representing 5% of the annual mean primary production in Chesapeake Bay, Total microzooplankton comprised 84% of the total zooplankton carbon content, representing five times higher than mesozooplankton biomass.
