        Since Cristianity has been introduced in Korea, the korean churches has grown up again and again. Especially since 1970s, several churches have shown their rapid growth in number of believer, they have become so called 'Super-Ultra Churches'. The main reasons of this rapid growth in such churches could be analysed into sociological, political and religious factors. All of these are closely related to the acute economic growth between 1960s and 1970s in Korea. Until mid 1980s, Most of these Super-Ultra Churches was very humble in the aspect of architectural values because they could not overcome coarse Gothic style prevalent in Korea churches and the functions was too simple to embrace social and cultural activities. But in these days, with the changing recognition of church's role in society and church itself, new and diverse methods of designing church are adapting. These new trend analysed into four factors, which are structural, functional, spacial and figurative ones. Firstly, in the structural factor, many Super-Ultra churches uses iron frame truss to support long spaned structure. Some of them introduced high technical method such as suspension structure or precast beams. Secondly, in the functional factors, they are more and more considering the flexibility of their internal space and openness of their outer space. In doing so they become more familiar to their neighborhood. Thirdly, in the spacial factors, they adapt diverse plan types such as rhombous, circular, or fan shaped types. In doing so they can get shorter distance from altar and the convergent effects are more strengthened. Fourthly, in the figurative factors, they are overcoming old Gothic style gradually and now adopting diverse vocabularies of modern architecture, they also considering the harmony between traditional style and new methods.

        Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

      • 생쥐 鼻中隔 各種 粘膜上皮 및 粘膜下腺의 分布樣狀과 그 表面積에 관한 硏究

        In order to set the distribution pattern and surface area of the mucosal epithelium and submucosal gland in the mice nasal septum. 3-month-old healthy 6 mice weighing 25gm approximately have been contributed for this research. For the mapping of the each nasal epithelium and submucosal gland in the submicroscopic level, the routine paraffin block of the mice nasal septum were cut as the 10㎛ thick at 110㎛ intervals. Consecutive 2 slides were stained with H-E and PAS and reconstructed in form of maps representing the structure in a sagittal plane. The results obtained from this research were summarized as follows. 1. The unilateral nasal surface epithelial area of the mice nasal cavity was 31.23㎟ 2. The areas of the stratified squamous epithelium, respiratory epithelium and olfactory epithelium which compose the unilateral nasal epithelium were 4.47㎟(14.3%), 12.7㎟(40.8%), and 14.02㎟(44.9%), respectively. 3. Submucosal glands in the mice nasal septum were divided into the PAS-positive, PAS-negative and Bowman's glands by the PAS staining. 4. The surface area of the PAS-positive glands in the nasal unilateral septum was 5.23㎟ which is located in the central area of the respiratory portion. 5. The surface area of the PAS-negative glands in the nasal unilateral septum was 5.05㎟ which is located above and below the PAS-positive gland. 6. The surface area of the Bowman's glands was 12.1 ㎟ which was located in the olfactory region. 7. In the vestibular region., 3 ducts of PAS-negative glands of the respiratory region are found, and below the nasal septum there is the infraseptal gland(PAS-negative).

        무주지역에서 채취한 산삼 생육 토양미생물에 대한 동정 연구

        objectives : Microorganisms were isolated from soils remaining attached to the roots of Wild Panax ginseng C.A. Mey. naturally grown in Moo-Ju area. methods : As a preliminary study for the establishment of wild ginseng radix discrimination system based on area of growth, these isolates were identified by using mainly API 20NE and API 50CHB kits and the microbial consortia were compared. From the sample of Moo-Ju area, 9 and 6 strains were isolated and identified after the incubation of agar plates at 30℃ and 37℃, respectively. results : The results showed that 2 strains of soil bacteria, Aeromonas hydrophilia, and Bacillus cereus commonly existed in the roots of wild ginseng of both 30℃ and 37℃. And that 6 strains, Pseudomonas putida, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Pseudomonas fluorescence at 30℃ and Bacillus subtilis, Empedobacter brevis, Brevi. laterosporus at 37℃, inhabited specifically in the roots of wild ginseng of Moo-Ju area. conclusion : These results suggest that comparison of microbial consortia associated with roots of wild ginseng could be used for the establishment of a naturally growing wild ginseng radix discrimination system.

      • 체외충격파 쇄석술 시행 후 5년 뒤 발생한 요관 협착 및 농신장 1예

        A 40-years-old woman was admitted to this hospital with flank pain and high grade fever for 2 weeks. As a matter of her past history, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) was performed for treatment of renal stones 5 years ago. Her abdominal CT findings were hydronephrosis with pyonephrosis and renal stones. Antibiotics administered for 5 days had no effects on her symptom improvement. A right ureteral stricture was noticed by ultrasonography follow up. We inserted double J stent and continued antibiotics therapy for 10 days, and then her fever was disappeared and flank pain was improved. ESWL is one of the most important treatment of renal and ureteral stone. However, its complications should not be negligible including bleeding, pain, ureteral obstruction, infection and so on. Complications of ESWL can be divided into acute and chronic courses. When we treat pyelonephritis patient with past history of ESWL, possibility of ureteral stricture must also be considered. In this study we report a case of pyelonephritis caused by ureteral stricture, possibly as a chronic complication of ESWL performed 5 years earlier

      • Staphylococcus aureus와 Coagulase-Negative Staphylococcus Species에 대한 Arbekacin의 시험관내 항균력

        Background : Most strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) now exhibit high-level resistance to various antibiotics, such as β -lactam antibiotics, aminoglycosides, macrolides, tetracyclines and quinolones. Recent reports describing the therapeutic failure of vancomycin for MRSA infections have arisen considerable concerns regarding the emergence of MRSA strains, which will require new therapeutic agents. Arbekacin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, has antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and is stable in the presence of aminoglycoside inactivating enzymes produced by S. aureus. In this study, we compared the antibacterial activity of arbekacin with those of vancomycin, gentamicin, and amikacin against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS). Methods : For a collection of 549 S. aureus and 251 CNS isolates from three Catholic University Hospitals in Korea, minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of arbekacin, vancomycin, amikacin and gentamicin were determined by agar dilution method using Mueller-Hinton agar according to NCCLS (National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards, USA)criteria. Results : Among 549 S. aureus isolates, 278 isolates were MRSA and 271 isolates were methicil sensitive S. aureus (MSSA). MIC50 & MIC90 of arbekacin against 549 S. aureus were 0.5 & 1 ㎍/mL, and MIC50 & MIC90 of vancomycin were 1 & 1 ㎍/mL. MIC of arbekacin against 549 S. aureus isolates ranges from 0.03 to 4 ㎍/mL, and MIC of vancomycin against 549 S. aureus ranges from 0.25 to 2 ㎍/mL. MIC90 of amikacin against 549 S. aureus was 32㎍/mL, and that of gentamicin was 128 ㎍/mL. MICs of amikacin and gentamicin were variable, ranging from 0.125 to 256, and otherwise arbekacin and vancomycin revealed relatively narrow range of MICs. MIC90 of arbekacin against 278 MRSA isolates & 271 MSSA were 1 & 0.5 ㎍/mL, and those of vancomycin against MRSA & MSSA were 1 & 1 ㎍/mL. MIC90 of amikacin against 278 MRSA & 271 MSSA isolates were 32 & 4 ㎍/mL, and that of gentamicin against MRSA & MSSA isolates were 128 & 32 ㎍/mL respectively. Among 251 CNS isolates, 122 isolates were MRCNS and 129 were MSCNS. MICSO & MIC90 of arbekacin against 251 CNS isolates were 0.25 & 2 ㎍/mL, and those of vancomycin were 1 & 2 ㎍/mL. MIC of arbekacin against 251 CNS isolates ranges from 0.015 to 32 ㎍/mL, and that of vancomycin isolates ranges from 0.25 to 2 ㎍/mL, MIC90 of arbekacin against 122 MRCNS & 129 MSCNS isolates were 2&0.3 ㎍/ML, and those of vancomycin were 2&s ㎍/ML. MIC90 of amikacin against 251 CNS isolates was 32 ㎍/ML, and that of gentamicin was 128 ㎍/ML for CNS. MIC90 of amikacin against 122 MRCNS & 129 MSCNS isolates were 128 & 8㎍/mL, and those of gentamicin ere 256 & 32 ㎍/mL. Conclusion : Considering above results, arbekacin can be useful agent against most strains of MRSA and MRCMS, which exhibit high-level resistance to amikacin and gentamicin.       • Carbachol에 의한 닭 췌조직내 nitric oxide synthase 활성 및 methylated arginine 함량변화

        The role of nitric oxide (NO) in the regulation of exocrine secretion was investigated in chicken pancreatic tissues. Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in the pancreatic tissues were Ca^2+-dependent form. Treatment of tissue with L-arginine (10 mM) or carbachol (10^-5 M) showed the increase of pancreatic exocrine secretion, but that of D-arginine (10 mM) did not. ^3H-citrulline formation, cyclic GMP level and methyl arginine contents in the homogenates of pancreatic tissues treated with carbachol were not affected. Although the action mechanism of NO in the pancreatic tissues remains unknown, NO apparently participates significantly in the overall control of pancreatic secretory function.

        Quality of care in inflammatory bowel disease in Asia: the results of a multinational web-based survey in the 2nd Asian Organization of Crohn`s and Colitis (AOCC) meeting in Seoul

        Background/Aims: The quality of care in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has not been systematically estimated. The aim of this study was to investigate the current status of quality of IBD care in Asian countries. Methods: A questionnaire-based survey was conducted between March 2014 and May 2014. The questionnaire was adopted from “An adult inflammatory bowel disease physician performance measure set” developed by the American Gastroenterological Association. If the respondent executed the performance measure in more than 70% of patients, the measure was regarded as well performed. Results: A total of 353 medical doctors from Asia completed the survey (116 from Korea, 114 from China, 88 from Japan, 17 from Taiwan, 8 from Hong-Kong, 4 from India, 3 from Singapore, and 1 each from the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia). The delivery of performance measures, however, varied among countries. The documentation of IBD and tuberculosis screening before anti-tumor necrosis factor therapy were consistently performed well, while pneumococcal immunization and prophylaxis of venous thromboembolisms in hospitalized patients were performed less frequently in all countries. Physician awareness was positively associated with the delivery of performance measures. Variations were also noted in reasons for non-performance or low performance of quality measures, and the two primary reasons cited were consideration of the measure to be unimportant and lack of time. Conclusions: The delivery of performance measures varies among physicians in Asian countries, and reflects variations in the quality of care among the countries. This variation should be recognized to improve the quality of care in Asian countries.
