In order to achieve stiction-free polysilicon surfaces, we have suggested a new chemical grafting precursor and confirmed their excellent characteristics. When dichlorodimethylsilane(DDS, C_(2)H_(6)SiCl_(2)), a dialkyldichlorosilane widely used in silicon machining, have been used as a precursor, experimental results were clearly comparable to those of monoalkyltrichlorosilanes octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS, C_(18)H_(37)SiCl_(3)) or 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyltrichloro-silane (FDTS, C_(10)H_(4)F_(17)SiCl_(3)) in terms of stiction reduction. The polysilicon cantilevers were fabricated in the carefully controlled conditions and laser interferometer indicated that their residual stress gradient was 2 MPa/μm upward from the substrate. The SEM images of polysilicon cantilever beams with DDS coating are upward and no stiction is observed up to 2 mm in length.

<P><B>Objectives</B></P><P><I>Mycobacterium abscessus</I> is known to be the most drug-resistant <I>Mycobacterium</I> and accounts for ∼80% of pulmonary infections caused by rapidly growing mycobacteria. This study reports a new <I>Drosophila melanogaster</I>–<I>M. abscessus</I> infection model that can be used as an <I>in vivo</I> efficacy model for anti-<I>M. abscessus</I> drug potency assessment.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P><I>D. melanogaster</I> were challenged with <I>M. abscessus</I>, and infected flies were fed with a fly medium containing tigecycline, clarithromycin, linezolid, clofazimine, moxifloxacin, amikacin, cefoxitin, dinitrobenzamide or metronidazole at different concentrations (0, 100 and 500 mg/L). The survival rates of infected flies were plotted and bacterial colonization/dissemination in fly bodies was monitored by cfu determination and green fluorescent protein epifluorescence.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>The <I>D. melanogaster</I>–<I>M. abscessus</I> model enabled an assessment of the effectiveness of antibiotic treatment. Tigecycline was the best drug for extending the lifespan of <I>M. abscessus</I>-infected <I>Drosophila</I>, followed by clarithromycin and linezolid. Several different combinations of tigecycline, linezolid and clarithromycin were tested to determine the best combination. Tigecycline (25 mg/L) plus linezolid (500 mg/L) was the best drug combination and its efficacy was superior to conventional regimens, not only in prolonging infected fly survival but also against <I>M. abscessus</I> colonization and dissemination.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>This <I>D. melanogaster</I>–<I>M. abscessus</I> infection/curing methodology may be useful for the rapid evaluation of potential drug candidates. In addition, new combinations using tigecycline and linezolid should be considered as possible next-generation combination therapies to be assessed in higher organisms.</P>
18세기의 소설비평 -<창선감의록> <사씨남정기> <구운몽> <춘향전>을 중심으로-

17세기 말에 조성기는 유가의 이념을 구현하기 위하여 <창선감의록>이라는 소설 양식을 택하였다. 김만중은 군신의 관계를 <사씨남정기>로 이야기하였으며, 파쟁에서 비롯된 갈등을 <구운몽>을 통하여 자기성찰로 승화시켰다. <춘향전>은 어려운 시대의 독서대중에게 꿈과 감동을 심어주었다. 18세기 <창선감의록>의 논평은 이 작품의 밑바탕에 맹자의 성선설이 깔려 있다고 보았다. <사씨남정기>의 경우는 굴원의 <이소>에 근거를 두고 군왕을 축으로 하는 신하들의 파쟁에서 충신은 끊임없이 참고 용서해야만 갈등을 해결할 수 있다는 윤리관으로 해석하였다. 영조는 <구운몽>을 극찬하였는데, 그 이유로 김만중이 육관대사의 가르침을 통하여 당쟁과 유배로 점철된 자신의 처신을 반성하고 스스로 성찰하였다고 보았다. 유진한은 한시 <춘향가>를 통하여 <춘향전>의 후반부를 극대화함으로써 독자들의 억눌린 감정을 풀어주는 역할을 강조하였다.

<P>Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most common childhood cancer, with a very poor prognosis. More than 60% of children with NB die within five years; therefore, a more effective therapy for NB is required. Although ginsenoside has been shown to significantly inhibit the growth of various cancers, the effect of ginsenoside Rk1 on neuroblastoma has not been known yet. Hence, we examined the anticancer effects of highly pure Rk1 on neuroblastoma cell lines. The apoptotic effects of Rk1 on neuroblastoma cells were examined using cell viability assay, flow cytometry and cell staining assay, and the change in gene expression levels were analysed using RT-PCR, western blots, and immunohistochemistry. The metastatic effect of Rk1 was monitored by wound healing assay, invasion and migration with Matrigels. Rk1 inhibited neuroblastoma cell viability dose-dependently. Rk1-induced apoptosis was investigated through nuclear condensation and mitochondrial membrane potential loss, and it showed that Rk1 can induce cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase but also inhibit the metastatic ability of neuroblastoma cells. Moreover, Rk1 (30 mg/kg) injections markedly inhibited xenograft tumor growth. These findings demonstrate that Rk1 might be valuable in the development of anti-cancer agents for neuroblastoma treatment. </P>
ON THE COMPARISON OF MISSING-CELL ESTIMATES IN THE DESIGNED EXPERIMENTS

The extension of Murray's (1988) results for the randomized block design is proposed for the three-way factorial design with one missing observation. The results of this paper show that the classical missing-cell estimate used in the three-way factorial design is unbiased but does not have minimum variance when one or more of factors are considered random. In addition, the alternative unbiased missing-cell estimate of having smaller variance than classical estimate are given.
